Nate Winchester’s Journal: Supernatural 9.08 – “Rock and A Hard Place”

It’s also hard to hate this episode when we got TWO redheads in it! (though I have a bit of trouble telling them apart).

Here’s what I keep wondering: how are there instructions on killing these demigods? Werewolf et al it all kind of makes sense. Trial and error – survivors write down what worked. Has there been more than one Vesta? Clues left by Artemis as a proxy war against competing gods? Did that “hippie” Jesus figure out a lot of these “cheat codes” to bring down demigods and spread the word to help bring them down? I don’t exactly want an explanation, the bit of mystery is nice, but the more it keeps popping up the weirder it seems. And which pantheons haven’t had a member eliminated? Maybe the Aztecs or Mayan gods are due for a bad day? (see also this novel where I listed one of my favorite quotes from the book).

Congrats to Jody Mills for taking over Bobby’s spot as “lovable old person” and inheriting his plot armor as well. You’re invincible now, girl, savor it until… season 10 finale is probably when it will wear off. It might last into the spin-off.

I admit I laughed when the show all but admitted to the peen of death meme. Really it’s entirely justifiable at this point for Sam Winchester to have a fear of commitment and relations, even reasonable some would say.

The scenes in the “burial chamber” were very spooky and the most memorable thing about the episode, well done on that. Though I’m impressed by the battery in that keychain TASER. (yeah, I find that less realistic than a demigod who can spout blue flame over her body)

Not a terribly great or memorable filler episode, but an enjoyable one buoyed up by the guest stars.
