What’s Your “Supernatural” Scene? #13
I have pulled out four more episode titles from my trusty Tupperware container and put my thoughts on each.
What are your thoughts on the following episodes?
Is it a scene, a moment, a line or song?
And why? It is your favourite or is it the emotional impact it has on you?
Maybe it simply makes you laugh or hide under the covers.
Folsom Prison Blues
This was good episode, it had some pretty funny moments and we got introduced to Cliff in this one.
I love Dean’s “I call this one the Blue Steel†and how Sam points out how well Dean adapts to his environment.
Sam: Dean does it bother you at all how easily you seem to fit in here?
Dean: No not really!
But I have to say my favourite scene is when Sam and Dean are first put into separate cells and Sam is with someone even taller than him. The way he turns and looks at Dean as the cell door shuts just cracks me up…Poor baby.
Mystery Spot
I loved this entire episode. To pick out just one moment is impossible. We have Dean’s many deaths, Sam reaction to each of those deaths. We have both confrontations with the Trickster, who I just loved and dearly miss. However I’m going to bite the bullet and go with the end scene from the point that Sam wakes up to find he is back to Wednesday morning and Dean is alive. The way Sam pulls back the covers and stomps over to Dean and clutches him in a huge bear hug, fighting off tears. I love Dean’s stunned look and his “How many Tuesday’s did you have?†How Sam wouldn’t let Dean go out to the car without him and how he is barely able to smile at Deans joke as they are leaving. And how so devastated Sam looked as he took one last glance at the motel room before shutting the door.
It’s The Great Pumpkin, Sam Winchester!
With this one, the first scene I think of is the showdown between Sam and Samhain and Dean’s reaction to seeing his brother using his mind as a weapon. The toll it takes on Sam to use these powers makes it hard to watch with the bleeding nose and the severe head ache. And to see the look Dean’s face as he watches on is so heart breaking.
Swap Meat
With this one I have to go with the opening scene with Sam going up to the bar and ordering a drink. Well at least we thought it was Sam.
Sam: Evening Barkeep. I would like to purchase some alcohol please.
Bartender: Uh-huh. What can I get you?
Sam: Well I’m 26 as you can see from my license.
Bartender: Congratulations. What can I get you?
Sam: A Banana Daiquiri my good man.
Crystal: I’m Crystal. What’s your name?
Sam: Hi Crystal. I’m Gary.
Crystal: Gary I don’t want to embarrass you, but you are just. You are just a stunning-looking man.
Sam: Oh I know right? (Bartender places Sam’s drink down) Ooh Thanks.
Crystal: So Gary you having a good time tonight?
Sam: Mm thank you for asking Crystal. This is like the best night ever.
Crystal: Do you think we could make it any better?
Sam: Probably. I don’t know.
Crystal: I mean do you wanna get out of here?
Sam: Well I kind of like this bar and I just ordered the daiquiri.
Crystal: I mean do you wanna get out of here with me?
Sam: (whispers) Are we talking about sex?
Crystal: Well I (chuckles) Yeah I suppose we are.
Sam: Crystal I would love to have the sex with you.
Crystal: Great then let’s go.
I believe this episode was suppose to have the brothers switching bodies, but for some reason they ended up changing the plot and having Sam switch with the Gary character. I wish they had kept the original idea because for me this just didn’t work. I thought maybe if they had continued with the opening format of having the audience seeing Sam with Gary’s personality and Gary playing out Sam’s personality might have worked better, but who knows maybe it would have been confusing. However I would of loved seeing Jared play out the driving of the Impala as being Gary, I think he would have pulled that one off beautifully.
Love your choices here. Very fun.
Folsom Prison Blues is a classic to me. I love how sarcastic happy Dean is about getting that spaghetti, and the bitch face Sam sports pretty much the whole episode. I also like that they end up in that situation to help a friend in need.
I also found that sequence with Sam using his powers so powerfully gripping. It was one of those Catch 22 moments somewhat. And what makes it most devastating is Dean’s face. A lot of that whole scene is conveyed without words!
And for the last, yes, that whole scene with “I’d like to have the sex with you” is probably its best moment, but I love it. It makes me giggle for some reason. I wish, too, that it would have been a brother swap—and if they had stayed with Gary that we would have seen those actors have to play the other character. That being said, the other scene I like in that one is when we see Sam, trapped in Gary’s body, eat toast, not knowing that Gary can’t have gluten. That look on his face as he realizes how bad this is going to be is hilarious.
Thanks for sharing these.
You picked some great episodes for this! Mystery Spot is one of my top 5 favorites. The hug you picked is my favorite moment too. It breaks my heart. I have watched this episode between 40 and 50 times. I have every line memorized. I love, love, love it.
FPB is a great episode with tons of great lines. I love Blue Steel. And Dean likes prison food, fits right in and makes a lot of “currency of the realm.” Wonderful!
I was so mad at the angels in ITGPSW (sign of a good show). And when Uriel got in Sam’s face so fast his hair blew back I loved the expression on Sam’s face.
I just can’t help mentioning my favorite ep: What is and What Should Never Be. I love every second of that episode. Every line. Every expression. Every actor.
It was wonderful to revisit these older episodes. Thanks!
I definitely have to go with you on that scene from Mystery Spot. I’ve probably watched that episode more than another other of the entire series. It just has everything-a great story, wonderful comedic exchanges between the boys, the Trickster… But most of all it’s the emotional impact that Jared brings to the ending scenes especially where he pleads with the Trickster to bring Dean back and finally this scene where he realizes it’s Wednesday again and Dean is alive. It’s one of the series best Brother Hugs IMHO. I loved it so much I had to draw it. 😆 http://lmrourke.deviantart.com/art/It-s-Wednesday-356606086?q=gallery%3Almrourke%2F513326&qo=3

OMC, josieposie, that drawing is amazing! You are really good! Don’t ever give up drawing. Wonderful.
FPB-it’s the dialogue about Dean fitting in. I loved that because I really highlighted how he moved with ease from one situation to another and seemed to enjoy the ride. He lost a lot of that boyishness after hell but I adore it when it pops back up.
MS- Definitely one of my top 3 episodes, you’re right it’s almost impossible to pick a moment I don’t love. But the hug has to win it. It was so perfect. Sam’s desperation, Dean’s confusion and just letting Sam hang on anyway. But an extremely close runner up would be watching Sam turn from the puppy-dog-eyed Sammy into this very scary version of himself and realize that Sammy doesn’t do very well without Dean. Like at all. Dean is always the one who seemed to cling to family, but in that episode you realize just HOW badly Sam needs Dean. And Sam has never been the same since. It was this hilarious episode that turned into a total game changer. LOVED IT!!
For some reason, I never really loved ItGPSW. I don’t know why. It’s obviously me because it is a really good episode. But for some reason it just didn’t do it for me. I did like those moments you mentioned and I also really liked when Sam first met Castiel and Castiel seemed reluctant to shake his hand, even though Sam looked so excited and happy to meet them. And also after when Sam realizes they really are dicks. Also Dean with the astronaut was adorable.
Weirdly I really did like SM and am much more likely to watch it than IitGPSW, even though that one is clearly the better episode. The first scene probably is my favorite though. And I think either of the options you mentioned would have made it much better and funnier.
fpb had some good stuff…sam looked amazing and i felt so bad for him because he so didn’t like the plan and he is just way too pretty for jail….when deacon called him sweetheart…i cracked up….loved the cuz i have an idiot for a brother remark….one scene that tickled me was deacon’s smile when sam was remarking to dean about patting himself on the back after dean’s declaration of being velvety smooth….and the mutual “what” when deacon was trying to cut in…
i just watched itgpsw last night. always get a kick out of sam’s remark to dean about eating candy after the guy just died….love sam’s excitement over meeting cas and always feel so sorry for him and his disappointment….it’s like meeting an idol and finding out what a dick they are…rather enjoyed uriel….don’t know why…he was a badass angel…the kid egging baby….so funny
swap meat always made me laugh….when sam was rummaging through gary’s stuff and nailed him as a frustrated virgin….the salad shake and dean’s shake it up baby…always makes me giggle….and the whole “we’re gonna do it” from sam as gary or gary as sam….i get confused….the best is gary admiring sam’s physique…both in front of the mirror at home and in the bar….and of course sam/gary face when he crashes baby….always thought this eppy a hoot….
tonite though another fave of mine….wishful thinking….that teddy bear cracks me up every time…and when sam asks dean if they should kill it…. 😆
ps…josieposie, that drawing is amazing….
Thanks, nappi815! 😆 I credit Supernatural with getting me back to doing what I used to love. It’s truly inspirational!

Oh, Wishful Thinking, another in my top five! The bear with the stuffing poofing out the back of his head in the failed suicide attempt. Teddy bear doctors. Also Yellow Fever because of Dean’s expressions and his rant. Also Sam became the “older” brother and was the caregiver in this ep. Both Sam and Dean were wonderful.

that was the other night…i watch in order….i know dean screaming when he sees the cat is a big fave, but what i always thought was funnier….was one minute sam is face to face with luther and then he turns around, and dean is running out the door….that makes me lol every time.
one scene that tickled me was deacon’s smile when sam was remarking to dean about patting himself on the back after dean’s declaration of being velvety smooth….and the mutual “what” when deacon was trying to cut in….
I have to agree with you nappi815 – Every time I think of FPB, this is the scene that comes to mind. The amused look on Deacon’s face as Sam is sitting there threatening to fight Dean for real. The him trying to get their attention because he has the letter from the lawyer. This is definitely one of my favorite scenes in the series.
FPB- I loved the part were Dean realizes he really DID smooth talk the lawyer: “I am just velvety smooth”.
Mystery Spot it was one scene that broke my heart; but it was so subtle. When Sam was eating dinner; but had a cheeseburger plate across the table, even though Dean was dead. I get a lump in my thoat ever time I see it.
Geat Pumpkin I liked all you mentioned; but the car scene. Dean tells Sam to keep believing.
Swap Meat. COME ON!! The exorcism at the end–Adios Bitch!!@! That is my favorite exorcism in all 8 seasons!
My favorite is the last scene from “The Mystery Spot” that you have mentioned. It had the Winchester hug! How can anyone not like that?? I also like the whole “Folsom Prison Blue” episode. And especially this dialogue…
Sam: Dean does it bother you at all how easily you seem to fit in here?
Dean: No not really!
😆
I loved your choices.
My fav scenes are all the motel scenes from A Very Supernatural Christmas. I feel these scenes are so full of emotion and give is a deep insight into the relationship between the brothers when they were young.
When we see Grown up Dean walk thru the motel room door with the Samulet it still brings tears to my eyes. After Sam refused over and over again to celebrate Christmas, he realizes how much it means to his brother and decides to surprise him with a makeshift tree. they both bought gifts from the GasMart and they were not expensive gifts but gifts that mean something to them. i i smile and cry very time I see this episode.
My other fav scenes are from my all time fav episode. Darkside of The Moon. The scenes with Dean and little Sammy just fill your heart with love. when Sammy puts his arms around Dean and thanks for the fireworks cuz Dad would never let them do this is so telling of the depth of love Dean has for his little brother.
The flip-side of the coin in this episode is when Dean realizes the best memories for Sam do not include Dean (family). The despair and heart ache in Deans face is ugh, makes me tear up writting about it.Again Jensen says so much more with his eyes and that beautiful face than he ever says in words. Watching him make the heart breaking decision to throw the Samulet in the trash and watching Sam’s face as it happens is just heartbreaking.
Okay,
FPB-loved the entire scene in the cafeteria with Tiny, but I think my favorite is Sam being all worried and stuff when they were waiting in that line. “What, are you from Texas all of a sudden?” always cracks me up.
Mystery Spot-oh man, so much awesomeness in an awesome episode. If I had to pick a favourite part though, I’d say the part in the diner where they end up talking at the same time. It was entirely perfect. I can’t hear Heat of the Moment anymore without thinking of Sam.
Oh, and the hug of course, but that’s just by default because it’s a Winchester hug. I can’t not love them!
ITGPSW-This one is easy: the Samhain exorcism scene and the look Sam and Dean exchanged after. So much seemed to transpire between them, it’s hard to believe not a word was spoken. I was mesmerized by the scene first time I watched and still am today.
Swap Meat-The scene I usually think of in this episode is the one where Gary crashes Baby. I was literally shouting at the screen. Gary’s lucky Dean’s didn’t plug him right there-Sam’s body or not.
BTW-dunno if anyone knows this, but, that line where “Sam” says “Crystal I would love to have the sex with you.” was a mistake. The line was supposed to be “Crystal I would love to have sex with you.”, but Jared duffed the line and added the “the”. Bob Singer was directing and he thought it was funny so they left it in. I remember laughing at that line, too, and I like that there’s a fun story behind it.
