Official Episode Synopsis – Supernatural Episode 8.18
Here’s the official synopsis for episode 8.18 – “Freeks and Geeks.” I don’t know, I have a feeling this is going to be epic, or it’s going to suck big time. After all, “Adventures In Babysitting” was not one of my favorite episodes. I liked Krissy, but Adam Glass carrying on a weak story he initially created? We’ll just have to see. They eventually got it right with Garth!

Adam Glass is one of the writers I care least for, so we shall see. This could be good or it could be really bad. It should shed some light on how we are supposed to judge the Sam/Dean relationship.
I hated Adventures in Babysitting with a passion, mostly because of Krissy (I’m so NOT a fan of the precocious child to the rescue thing) so I’m really not looking forward to this episode.
I liked Krissy – though normally I would be with you 100% on the subject of precocious children or, worse, adorably obnoxious teenagers π . In fairness SPN does a much better job portraying children than many shows do (Ben / young Sam(s) and Dean / Amy).
But Krissy’s character was done pretty well and the actress did a good job I thought, however considering she caused the problem at the end that she then ‘saved their lives’ from I hope they do a better job of the logic of it this time.
I am not convinced by the idea behind this plot at all, but I will give it a chance π
I really hated Krissy
When she started sassing Dean, I wanted him to smack her in the mouth π
By the end of the episode I was begging the monster to kill her! π π
I do agree the actress did a good job, but man, I could not stand the character
They find Krissy and learn her father was killed and sheΓ’β¬β’s been taken in by a man named Victor (guest star : Adrian Hough), who has taken in a group of orphan kids to teach them how to hunt. Victor is helping the teenagers find the vampires who took their parents so they can get revenge.

Okay. What. The. Hell?
Who comes up with an idea like this?
Let’s set aside the fact that Krissy and her dad actually played a hopeful part in an otherwise dismal S7 – (remember Dean’s “it feels good to walk away from someone and feel like they might actually be okay” after trying to convince Krissy’s dad to give up life, and her to go to college). Now he dies and Krissy is hunting? How depressing.
Let’s also set aside that “Adventures in Babysitting” was not that great of an episode in terms of pacing or writing.
Let’s further set aside the fact that I, personally, was not impressed with Krissy. The actress did a good job, but she wasn’t the kind of character who would be put on my “wish to see again” list. Plus – who wants/needs more teenage angst/sarcasm/precociousness?
Finally, let’s set – no, shove – aside the fact that this comes at episode 18, and is likely going to be filler in every sense of the word. (Filler CAN be good, but a story of a bunch of orphaned teens being raised to kill vampires doesn’t seem to have that potential).
But the real issue for me is this: I realize that SPN is a Sci-fi show, and in so being it defies reality in many ways. But this synopsis has SO many issues – child endangerment, corruption of a minor, abuse/neglect, potential pedophilia, etc. that it is just not okay. I’m not one to take things too seriously, but this is a bridge too far for me.
Someone somewhere mentioned after the “Man’s Best Friend With Benefits” episode that perhaps the writers need sensitivity training. After reading this, it doesn’t seem like a stretch.

Not me, that’s for sure. I didn’t like ‘Adventures in Babysitting’ at all…and this was pretty much due to the Krissy character, a character I have no wish to see again.
Why oh why did they kill off her father. He was a character I’d love to have seen again.
The thought of an episode about a bunch of teenage vampire hunters led by MasterHunterKrissy makes me want to puke. I have to ask, what makes what the Winchesters do such a big deal if a bunch of idiot kids can ran around doing it. The last time around, Krissy, at age 15, saved three EXPERIENCED hunters, one of which is dead now while Krissy ups her game. Good God!
The actress seems like a sweet 16-year old, and she is pretty, but IMO she wasn’t very skilled in her craft. Why use her, instead of Ian Tracey…a really good, experienced Canadian actor whose role actually fit into the show. I honestly have no idea what Carver’s idea of hunting and hunters are, and I am not impressed.
I couldn’t shake the image of a vampire hunting “Oliver!”… maybe they’ll all sing too.
Oh I thought it was just me π
E eilf and Bamboo,
They simply cannot do this to us π₯ . I really need this ep to be good as we are entering the home stretch not to mention the nearly 3 week break we have had to endure. I must admit the thought of sassy Krissy and a bunch of teenagers is :zzz (probably trying to reach the teenage vampire audience).
However, you never know, it might surprise Adam Glass notwithstanding
Am currently watching seasons 1-5 again as discussions have called issues into question.
I will certainly give the episode a fair chance.
But I am also guessing that I will be royally pissed and offended if Sam and Dean do anything other than mutually agree to call CPS on this hunter and get these orphans out of that dangerous life.
As for reaching the teenage audience…I don’t see how. This is a mature show, with two guys in their 30’s as longtime leads.
Every time a teenager other than a Winchester has been portrayed on SPN they have come across as whiny and distracting, IMO (e.g. Kevin Tran and his girlfriend, Krissy, even Ben at times, not to mention all the teens who get killed off by their own stupidity in messing with or testing the Supernatural). Their drama doesn’t jive with the mature angst of the Winchester brothers, and for me at least, it comes across as odd, flat, contrived, and off-putting. I can barely take Kevin Tran in small doses, and he is a good actor with a mature role to play. Plus, knowing how dangerous the world of SPN is, it evokes an extremely weird feeling to see a kid taking a part in that life. The Winchesters were supposed to be an exception to the rule; and they would never, in my view, support kids being brought up like they were.
