The Wisdom of Dean Winchester – Season Five
Sam Interrupted
One word.
“Pudding!”
Swap Meat
“Oh, you shake it up baby.”
See! Even Dean is annoyed by Sam’s salad habit.
The Song Remains The Same
If Dean didn’t have his sense of humor, there’s no way he’d be able to process the fact he just failed to save his parents again after another trip back in time, watched his little brother get killed (again) and has to live with the fact that he and Sam, despite a resurrection by Michael, are still exponentially screwed.
“Team Free Will. One ex-blood junkie, one dropout with 6 bucks to his name, and Mr. Comatose over there. Awesome.”
Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid
Dean is not only fed up with Horsemen, he loves Buffy.
“Awesome. Another Horseman. Must be Thursday.”
Dark Side of The Moon
Well, this is one way to get a fellow hunter to shit in his pants.
“Go ahead Roy, do it. But I’m gonna warn you, when I come back, I’m going to be pissed.”
Notice how the choice of words was “when”, not “if?” That word change alone would of have me running away screaming.
Too bad he finds out during his brief visit Heaven isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.
“Yeah, well if this is the Skymall, then it sucks. Where’s the triplets and the latex, you know? Come on, a guy has needs.”
99 Problems
How do you console an angel that is experiencing Daddy issues? Keep it simple.
Castiel: How do you manage it?
Dean: On a good day, you get to kill a whore.
Another great thing about Dean Winchester, he’s not afraid to tell it like it is.
Jane: I don’t understand. How are we supposed to get to paradise now?
Dean: I’m sorry. Pretty sure you’re heading in a different direction.
The Point of No Return
Ready to throw your life away to the archangel Michael but you’re pesky brother and friends keep getting in the way. Nothing like biting sarcastic wit to keep the tension fun. Like sharing his plan to save the world…
Dean: We’re working on the power of love.
Adam: How’s that going?
Dean: Mmm, not good.
Antagonizing a being that could explode him in a snap…
“Cas, not for nothing, but the last person who looked at me like that…I got laid.”
Learning from a vicious beating from a being that could explode him in a snap…
“Word to the wise: don’t piss off the nerd angels.”
Or maybe showing of faith in a little brother that’s admired him his entire life…
“Honestly? The damnedest thing. I mean, the world’s ending. The walls are coming down on us, and I look over to you and all I can think about is, “this stupid son of a bitch brought me here.” I just didn’t want to let you down.”
“I don’t know if it’s being a big brother or what, but to me, you’ve always been this snot-nosed kid that I’ve had to keep on the straight and narrow. I think we both know that’s not you anymore. I mean, hell, if you’re grown up enough to find faith in me, the least I can do is return the favor. So screw destiny right in the face. I say we take the fight to them and do it our way.”
Hammer of The Gods
This might not be the thing you want to say to cannibal Gods.
“We can either take on the Devil together, or you lame-ass bitches can eat me. Literally.”
Swan Song
In the end, it’s all about family.
“I’m not gonna lie to you, though. It goes against every fiber I got. I mean, truth is… You know, watching out for you… it’s kinda been my job, you know? But more than that, it’s… it’s kinda who I am. You’re not a kid anymore, Sam, and I can’t keep treating you like one. Maybe I got to grow up a little, too. I don’t know if we got a snowball’s chance. But… But I do know that if anybody can do it… It’s you.”
Castiel: I want you to understand, the only thing you are going to see out there is Michael killing your brother.
Dean: Then I ain’t going to let him die alone.
Coming soon, seasons six and seven bring a different kind of Dean to the forefront.

I did not know about the Wisdom of Dean Winchester articles. Thanks for this article and the links to the previous ones. All the lines were pure gold..Funny,scary..all were perfectly delivered by Jensen .
I absolutely love this, thanks Alice. I may have to go back and read the other ones again, too. Man, I wish you could actually say even half of what comes out of this man’s mouth in real life without getting your ass kicked!
I also noticed the “when I come back”. Jesus, I would have run away screaming too.
Oh, and my whole family knows “Pudding!”
GREAT article. But does anyone else think Dean would have been bored stiff by the LOTR movies? 😆
These were funny. Looking at all the pictures reminds me for the umpteenth time, that Dean makes faces that remind me of Deniro’s. Look at the pic from episode 3-5.
Gosh, Alice, this was great. I didn’t know about the DW Wisdom articles either. Off to read the rest of them.
In the words of the coolest dude ever, Awesome. I will surely be checking out the past Dean wisdoms.
That speech Dean gave to Bobby at the end of Sympathy for the Devil…………….I would have followed Dean anywhere…even to Hell.
To learn mere moments later that it was all bunk? That he didn’t mean one word? I was as disappointed as Sam. The way Sam’s face fell…was me. I realized right then that Dean didn’t believe in anything. He didn’t believe in his own family/friends. he didn’t think they were good enough… to get the job done…or to do the job That he would say whatever he felt… I felt manipulated and betrayed by him.
I geuss it explains why Dean surrounds himself with Angels and Demons these days. He doesn’t consider them weak like he does humanity….like he does sam. Dean has said numerous times to Sam that his empathy and compassion make him weak. “all that wussified crap” as he told Souless Sam. Makes you wonder if Souless Sam deciding to actively prevent regaining his soul was a careful manipulation by Dean. That is until he proved he was too dangerous for Dean to control.
So he decided to get the weaker version back…the one he was able to control and manipulate
Someday, it would be interesting to watch whatever version of Supernatural you’re watching, because we’re clearly not watching the same version.
Respectfully disagree. I think Dean’s speech was to bolster Bobby. Nothing more. He still has trust issues with Sam at that point, and is not in a good place, but I am not sure why you felt so betrayed. I do not think Dean thinks humans and Sam are weak. Just my opinion. I agree with Cindy that we must be watching different versions of SN.
What a wise man Dean is! Alice, can I add two of my Dean wisdoms that always tickle me?
In SFTD when Meg kisses him, Dean licks his lips and asks “What is that, peanut butter?”
And in Sam Interrupted after Dean has his first therapy session with his psychologist, Sam encounters a disturbed Dean who states he has just been ‘thraped’. Classic Dean that always cracks me up.
In regards to the speech Dean gave at the end of SFTD, I must say that I totally agree with Cindy and Leah D. Dean has faith in humanity, he was just in an uncertain place at the time, and was attempting to reassure Bobby (and maybe himself) with a bit of Dean bravado.
