What’s Your “Supernatural” Scene #8
Ok, I have four more episode titles and have put my thoughts on each. What are your thoughts on the following episodes?
Is it a scene, a moment, a line or song?
And why? It is your favourite or is it the emotional impact it has on you?
Maybe it simply makes you laugh or hide under the covers.
“Home” ““ This episode is another one high on my list of favourites. I just loved the Missouri character. For this episode the scene I always think of first is with Missouri and Sam on the front steps after Mary sacrificed herself to get rid of the poltergeist. Sam was so scared and confused. His asking “What’s happening to me?” and Missouri reaching out to comfort him but stops herself, just really got to me.
“Nightmare” ““ This was my very first “Supernatural” episode, and I have to say, it was quite the introduction to the show. It was the farthest thing from what I had ever expected.
I sat through the entire episode not only on the edge of my seat but with my jaw to the floor. I immediately fell in love with the brothers, with their chemistry, their relationship, how they cared and looked out for each other. The final scene stayed with me for those very reasons.
Sam: Actually, there’s, uh, somethin’ else, too.
Dean: Oh, jeez, what?
Sam: When Max locked me in that closet, that big cabinet against the door””I moved it.
Dean: You’ve got a little bit more upper body strength than I give you credit for.
Sam: No, man, I moved it””like Max.
Dean: Oh. Right.
Sam: Yeah.
Dean: Bend this. (Dean holds up a spoon to Sam)
Sam: I can’t turn it on and off, Dean.
Dean: Well, how’d you do it?
Sam: I don’t know, I can’t control it. I saw you die, and it just came out of me, like a punch. You know, like a freak adrenaline thing.
Dean: Well, I’m sure it won’t happen again.
Sam: Yeah, maybe. Aren’t you worried, man, aren’t you worried that I could turn into Max or something?
Dean: Nope. No way. You know why?
Sam: No. Why?
Dean: “˜Cause you’ve got one advantage that Max didn’t have.
Sam: Dad? Because Dad’s not here, Dean.
Dean: No. Me. As long as I’m around, nothing bad is gonna happen to you.
“On The Head Of A Pin” ““ This episode just about killed me, it tugged and twisted at every possible emotion I had. When I think of this episode, I get flooded with so many scenes. I could have just rhymed off the entire episode, but I’ve managed to bring it down to three specific moments.
First one is all of Alastair’s scenes in the devil’s trap. His dry and sarcastic comments gave this very dark and chilling episode some much-needed light moments. “Sounds like something’s caught in my throat. I think it’s my throat.”
Kudos to Christopher Heyerdahl in his portrayal of Alastair, he was fantastic.
Next I would have to go with the discovery of how Sam had been getting stronger.
When I saw Sam drinking Ruby’s blood, I was not happy with this turn of events.
I’ve had moments where at one time or another I wanted to cuff one of the brothers in the back of the head but seeing Sam resorting to this, all I wanted to do was put that boy over my knee and beat his ass.
And to see that slimy evil smirk of Ruby’s as Sam drank her blood. UUGGGG!
I never really knew for sure if she was good or bad. I was forever teetering on whether she could be trusted and if her motives were pure in helping the brothers. It wasn’t until that moment that I new for sure that that Bitch’s heart was as black as her eyes.
For the last scene, I would have to go with Dean lying in the hospital bed discussing with Castiel about breaking the first seal and where their fate lies. Dean broke my heart throughout this episode and this final scene had me crying right along with him.
Dean: “Is it true? Did I break the first seal? Did I start all this?”
Castiel: “Yes”
As Castiel explains how they tried to get him out of hell but they were too late.
C: “We were too late.”
D: “Why didn’t you just leave me there, then?”
C: “It’s not blame that falls on you Dean. It’s fate. The righteous man who begins it is the only one who can finish it. You have to stop it.”
C: “Dean, they don’t tell me much. I know our fate rests with you.”
D: “Then you guys are screwed. I can’t do it Cas. It’s too big. Alastair was right. I’m not all here. I’m not strong enough. I guess I’m not the man either of our dads wanted me to be. Find someone else. It’s not me.”
“The End” ““ This is another one of those episodes where I could just rhyme off the whole thing. But once again I have restrained myself and chose three moments.
The first one is when Dean is running from the Croatoan victims and the tanks come out of nowhere blasting the song “˜Do You Love Me’ by The Contours. That scene blew me away.
Second would have to be Sam as Lucifer. Seeing our Sammy like that was frightening. Kudos to Jared in this scene.
The last one I have to go with is when Castiel zaps Dean to him by the side of the road, saving Dean from Zachariah grasp. “We had an appointment”
I just loved that moment.
Home – There are 3 that stand out vividly in my mind. The conversation between Sam and Dean while they’re gassing up the car. Dean’s desperate, and overwhelmed voicemail that he left for John. And when the flaming figure of Mary first comes around the corner when Sam’s pinned to the wall. I was in tears all three times.
Nightmare – Sam and Dean’s quick exchange in the car over whether or not to try to reasoning with Max, and to help him get himself turned around. And then Dean grabs his gun “just in case”. And also, the horrible conversation between Max and Sam while his step-mother and Dean were upstairs. That’s one of the those scenes when the first time I watched it, I held my breath the whole time.
On the Head of a Pin – This one put me through the ringer. I laughed, I cried, I shrieked. I simultaneously wanted to cover my eyes, and not blink so I wouldn’t miss anything. To this day, whenever I have a hoarse voice, or any kind of throat problem, I’ll tell anyone who’s listening, “There’s something caught in my throat. I think it’s my throat.” I get a lot of weird looks.
The End – It’s so hard to pick from this episode. The whole thing blew me away start to finish. I could come up with a laundry list of things that pop out as being iconic for me. If I squashed everything down into a nutshell, it would be Jensen acting with himself. And Jared’s chilling portrayal of Lucifer. That just gripped my heart like a huge bony skeleton hand. Also, what really gets me, is the audio commentary on this one. Eric, Bob Singer, and Edlund are hysterical. If I’m having a bad day, I will often watch this one with the commentary on because Eric and Ben together are priceless. They’ll have their moments of seriousness, but then a second later will be laughing and joking like a couple of little boys. They poke fun at themselves and each other, and they’re just these hyper little balls of happy that make me laugh every time.
WOW! The End is my 3rd fav epi of them all! My favorite scene is the same one,but for different reasons. When Sam is Lucifer, I LOVE the talk Dean gives him. Especially about being the same thing (only bigger) that he has hunted his whole life. That scene always makes me cry. When I want to show someone how amazing Jensen is, that is one of the scenes I show them. they are all great ones, no doubt
Home-The first scene with the boys, where Sam admits he’s been having visions and the scene where Dean calls his dad and tells Sam about how he carried him out of the house that night. You can tell how wary and worried Dean is about Sam’s new supernatural gift. And how Sam is embarrassed and worried about what Dean will think.
Nightmare-that scene you wrote down dialogue on is definitely my favorite.
Head of a Pin- The scene where Alastair tells Dean about the 1st seal, the last scene where he confronts Cas about it and when Sam takes out Alastair.
The End-Yeah it hard to pick from this one, you want to just say the whole thing. Last scene with the boys. Where Dean tells Dean about the Panties. Castiel’s Line”It’s not funny Dean the voice says I’m almost out of minutes.”
I love that commentary too. It’s one of the few commentaries I’ve listened to repeatedly. When they were talking about it being cyclic. “You gonna put that on the scene.” So funny.
Nightmare isn’t on my list of favorites so i need to rewatch that to see if there are good moments I am forgeting. But the other three?
Home – first thing I think about is Dean’s call to his dad, then I think about Missouri telling him not to put his feet on her table. I was surprised she had to tell him that! Love.
On the head of a pin – watching Dean’s face as Alastair told him he broke the first seal? Broke my heart instead.
The end – Castiel is gonna wait on the road. LOL! That call from Sam pleading to come back, Dean saying they are each other’s weakness, and later when he takes him back? Hug! Squeeze! So in love with the two of them! And a bad Sam is the best Sam in my book. That man can wear white!
Ummm… Good choices! 🙂
Home & Nightmare – all the ones that Secret Willow lists are my favorites! Although with the one in Nightmare where they see the knife coming towards the stepmother’s eye still creeps me out…and Sam’s vision of Dean’s head getting blown off!
On the Head of a Pin – Too much to choose! I loved the whole episode from beginning to end! It’s one of my favorites.
The End – A masterpiece in my book! To see future Dean talking to present Dean broke my heart. He had such an ice cold edge to him. I loved the conversations between the two Deans. Plus Chuck…and toilet paper. Who could forget that along with Hippie child Cas and his view on free love, etc? I loved seeing this side to Castiel’s character.
THE END. I agree. This is the Number One episode I will never forget. My favorite scene of all time is the confrontation of Dean and Lucifer (Sam). It was the most heartrending scene I’ve ever seen. That smirk on Luci’s face, who knew how much this hurt Dean and milked it to the utmost, was agonizing beyond anything. Deans’s tears produced my own at seeing his beloved brother had become a monster. I still cry when I watch that.
The End-Sam as Lucifer is the best version of Lucifer for me.I know Lucifer is bad but at that moment i felt so sad for him and at the end he gives a small quirk of lips perfect which showed that he is truly the serpent.Brilliant acting.
On the head of a pin brilliant acting ,tight script..just superb
Home and nightmare ,Home for the poignant scene of Sam,Dean and Mary and Sam and Missouri was brilliant.Nightmare was just a juicy episode story wise
Home: The gas station scene stands out for me. Dean telling Sam what he remembers from that night, that he carried Sam out the front door to safety. Something Sam did not know. Dean’s literally been protecting Sam all of his life.
Nightmare: The very last scene in the motel room as they were packing. Sam was telling Dean everything that happened, how he was feeling about it all and how worried he was about it. Dean was up front in his responses to Sam although he did not let on just how worried he was. Then he lightens the moment by saying they need to go to Atlantic City and take advantage of Sam’s psychic talents. Cue the bitch face! This may be the last time that Sam actually told Dean everything that was going on with him.
On the Head of a Pin: This episode is so hard for me to watch. Dean torturing, even though it was Alistair has hard to watch. Learning about and then seeing Sam drink Ruby’s blood. How in the world did that get started?! I loved Sam’s confrontation with Castiel that began with Sam worriedly sitting at Dean’s side in the hospital. “Miracle, now!†We are always hearing how Dean loves Sam. This is one of the few times that we got to see Sam’s love for Dean.
The End: I loved it when Castiel pulled Dean to safety because “we had an appointmentâ€. I find it very difficult to see Sam as Lucifer. I literally squirm in my seat. Sometimes I fast forward through it because I just cannot watch it. I agree, “Kudos to Jared†for making me so uncomfortable with Lucifer.
Home – mostly I like the gas station thing and the first scene where Sam is talking about going home and dean says that he promised himself to never go back there.
Nightmare – its one my favorites too , because it was opening some threads for us about Sam and all that and I liked it! Mostly the part that dean&sam are in car and Sam is tying to convinse dean to follow his lead .
On the head of a pin – obviously one of my favs too! Mostly I like like Castiel and Uriel chat at the end and then dean and Cas conversation in the final mins! It’s just heart breaking! Dean looks so crashed and it was so sad to see him like that!
The end – I liked the whole episode! It’s just awesome! I liked cas becoming a hippie and my favorite scenes are Cas & dean talking in the car and ofcourse Dean talking to Lucifer. And I just loved Misha ‘s acting as a hippie which was far far away from Castiel , and of course mr Padalecki as lucifer was just wonderful!
Home – I love this episode a lot and have many favourite scenes but my favourite is the scene you mentioned, when Sam asks Missouri ‘what’s happening to me?’ The boy looks so confused and so scared and so very, very young and my heart just breaks for him every time I watch it. Also love the scene when the boys see Mary and then when Dean hugs Sam after he saves him from choking. Also love the start when Sam tells Dean about his visions/dreams and the gas station scene.
Nightmare – Again, this is another huge favourite episode of mine so I have many favourite moments. Sam is so scared about what was happening to him and Dean is so protective. I think it is an awesome episode. The ‘As long as I’m around, nothing bad is gonna happen to you’ scene is probably my favourite. Also love when Sam has his vision in the motel room and he reaches out for Dean. Then when he has another vision and the boys sling their arms around each others shoulders as Dean helps Sam back to the car. There is so much brotherly love in Nightmare. Another tiny moment I love is when Sam’s about to walk into the road and Dean out his arm out to stop him.
On The head Of A Pin – I have to confess that I’ve only seen this once so I can’t remember much about it but I do remember Sam’s ‘Miracle. NOW!’
The End – Sam as Lucifer. Those scenes are incredible. Lucifer’s “I win. So, I win†just gave me the chills. I was also very relieved to see the boys reuniting at the end, loved the “we keep each other human†line.
Thank you everyone for sharing your thoughts, favourite scenes and moments. I enjoyed reading them all.
Some episodes are so jam packed with memorable moments it makes it near impossible to pick to just one.
Great choices. “Home” for me is one of my all time favourites. The phone call Dean places to his father just breaks my heart everytime. And when Sam realizes that the figure on fire is his mother, oh man, the river flows.
“Nightmare”. Not one of my favourites except for the conversation at the end, definitely.
“On the Head of a Pin”. The whole episode is an A+ in my book. When Alistair tells Dean that he is the one that broke the first seal, the look on his face was so devastating. Jensen has such a way to make Dean so vulnerable doesn’t he?
“The End”. Again this episode is an A+ from beginning to end. The most chilling part is Lucifer with Sam’s beautiful face. Jared certainly brought that one all the way home.
Excellent choices!
“Home” is one of my favorite episodes of the first season. I loved that moment where we realized John was aware of where his boys were and still watching over them even though he wasn’t reaching out to them.
“Nightmare” was great for the reasons so many have listed just because it was so instrumental in hammering home the type of relationship the brothers have. That was when they were still so pure to their cause; I love going back and watching Season 1 now.
“OTHOAP” This episode to me was a defining moment for Season 4, for what Alistair revealed about Dean being the one to break the first seal to us seeing how low Sam had sunk in drinking demon blood. It really threw a lot at us. It was one I hadn’t cared for on first time viewing but I absolutely see it’s importance now.
“The End” This one is just flat out amazing. From the hippie version of Cas to the Lucifer version of Sam and poor Dean trying to make sense of it all, it was just great. And Lucifer (Sam) in that white suit…an evil so powerful wearing white was really a nice touch. Excellent choices all around. Can’t wait for the next one!
