Supernatural Wins TWO People’s Choice Awards – Jared and Jensen Were Not Invited
Earlier this evening, during a broadcast of the red carpet of the 38th Annual People’s Choice Awards, it was announced that “Supernatural” had won both awards it was up for! The above picture of both awards is courtesy of Co-Executive Producer Jim Michaels via his Twitter.
The first is a second win for them, Best SciFi/Fantasy Show. The second though is a MAJOR win, Best Broadcast Network Drama. An acceptance speech by Jared and Jensen was taped in Vancouver. The speech aired during the red carpet broadcast, which was shown on the little known cable network Reelz and via the People’s Choice website. The win for Best Broadcast Network Drama was not mentioned during the broadcast at all, and the Best SciFi/Fantasy win only got a brief mention.
Here is that video. The guys are certainly grateful.

While we are all very proud of this win for our show, sadly, it seems that the People’s Choice Awards are sending a clear message that some fans are more important than others. This is from Clif Kosterman on Twitter.
@bodyguard4jandj: awesome we win but can you f ing beleive no invite
Jared and Jensen did not receive an invitation to the awards! This is after fans spent hours and days online voting for the show and promoting the People’s Choice Awards. We were encouraged by the network’s publicists! This is definitely a slap in the face to a fandom that was only doing what this show is supposed to be all about, awards and recognition from the fans!!! “People’s” choice.
As you can expect, there is a huge onslaught of fan protests going on right now. I’m gathering info on where to send protest letters, but currently protests are being sent to via tweets to @peopleschoice and through their Facebook page.
I’m getting a lot of retweets on this. If you wish to flood their twitter with this, feel free:
@WinFamBusiness: Dear @peopleschoice. Please change the name of your awards to “Only The Important People’s Choice.” #Supernaturalwinnotbroadcasted

They announced Supernatural’s win for Network TV Drama and SciFi/Fantasy Show during the official RED CARPET COVERAGE and aired the pre-taped acceptance speech at that time.
Since the PCA show isn’t over, I don’t know if anything will be included during the main broadcast.
Thanks! Yeah, there was so much conflicting information at the time I published this. I’ve corrected that. I’ll keep updating as info comes in.
Wonderful win for the series. Guess that will assure the series renewal for season 8. Congrats to all the cast crew and fans who worked so hard to get those votes posted!
Awesome! What a wonderful tribute to a show that has given us so much pleasure for so many years, and to us fans who work hard to get the boys recognized for their outstanding talent. Great cast and terrific crew…thank you for your dedicated work. Congratulations everyone.
I was in the middle of Walmart with my sister and decide to take a peek at my phone to see if twitter was lighting up and and sure enough it was. It was all I could do not to squee in the middle of the store. I did a silent one walking back out to the car. EEEEEEEEEE!!!!
The PCA’s just wrapped up. For you folks in a time zone other than Eastern, you won’t see anything from the boys on the show.
OK, since this is the very first time I have ever watched the actual broadcast of The People’s Choice Awards (and let me assure you, also the very last time as this was LAME beyond words!) I need someone to explain to me why every category that they deem is worth a nomination isn’t actually awarded on TV? Maybe it is just my prejudice showing, but I believe that a show that wins TWO categories deserves air time? I mean come on, Adam Sandler read two full pages of BS and they don’t have enough time to even ANNOUNCE the favorite network TV drama? Could someone please explain this to me?
Same here. I watched the whole danged thing and I didn’t hear an announcement for Best TV Network Drama award. I did hear the very brief Si-Fi mention — no promo pix or anything. Last time I’ll ever watch the incredibly boring show.
+10000000 to suzee51
I’m very happy because supernatural won the PCA,
but I really want to know too why Jared or Jensen or anyone from the supernatural team didn’t go to get the award to the awards ceremony?
People is saying ‘maybe they were filming’, but I mean they can stop filming for 1 day isn’t? I mean for me is a huge thing to win the People Choice Awards BEST TV DRAMA and they didn’t go? why????
You have free publicity there !!!
Does somebody knows why nobody for the spn team went to the ceremony? They weren’t invited? or they didn’t want to go because they were filming?
ok according to Cliff twitter , they weren’t invited .
wow Supernatural wins best TV drama and, PCA don’t invite them!!
They weren’t invited.
Gotta say that I find that unacceptable. I may be wrong (I haven’t taken the time to check each award winner) but was there any other show that won TWO PCA’s? They had plenty of time for really lame comedy bits and cheesy acceptance speeches that went on forever, but when they discovered that SPN had won Favorite Network TV Drama they decided it didn’t even merit an announcement? Is anyone else thinking that if The Vampire Diaries had won that they would have had paraded Somerhaulder and Wesley back on the stage in a heartbeat?
As far as I am concerned, CBS is going to be receiving a
chastising e-mail from me. I think we all should complain directly to the source.
I don’t twitter or Facebook, but I went to the PCA web page and left a complaint under their “contact us.” No, no other show got two awards. I watched the whole danged thing and there wasn’t even a mention that SPN won Best TV Network Drama — only the Sci-Fy award.
If there is an organized complaint effort, please post it here so that all complaints will be going to the same place. CBS may be the place to do it. Let me know, because I am super ticked off about this.
It is very lame that SPN was not invited to the ceremony, but as for calling out TVD, I really don’t think that is needed as it is the network that should be called out, not one show, and Ian and Nina were nominated in separate solo acting categories so they would have been there either way.
Castle did win Two PCAs tonight but yes, it was disrespectful of them not to have SPN there.
I’m definitely complaining about this. I watched the entire show for nothing and then to find out they weren’t even invited? That’s pretty despicable. The only worthwhile thing was betty white getting a standing ovation. I completely agree with the Adam sandler comment. It wasn’t funny it was stupid and they cant even mention supernatural’s win? I noticed the vampire diaries case there in full force.
Whoa….Just got back online here and can’t believe what I am reading! NO INVITE FOR A SHOW THAT WON TWO AWARDS! Is this common for the broadcast? Have they presented the Best Drama Award on air before? I know they don’t air the Best SciFy award, but even that is bad. Why ask for people to vote for it, if it’s not presented!
Yes, they’ve ALWAYS aired best drama. In fact, if The Vampire Diaries had won (not slamming the Vampire Diaries mind you, I’m thrilled for them too and threw a lot votes Nina and Ian’s way) they would have presented that award. It’s really a travesty to the fans that voted. They encourage us to vote, they got site admins like me to spread the word, we did everything we were supposed to, which is show total support of our show and they snubbed us.
What sort of message does this send? What’s worse is they won’t care. We’re a small show on a small network.
Just wanted to clarify I wasnt trying to slam the vampire diaries in any way. However their presence proved they weren’t just ignoring cw shows as a whole, and isnt best drama kind of a big deal??
Please let me know where I can send my protest letter when you can. Would love to give those jerks a piece of my mind!
TV blogger just said she found out they were invited to the show but not to present and their categories weren’t going to be live. So basically they were invited to be seat fillers. They shouldn’t have asked the Vampire Diaries boys to present and had Jensen and Jared instead & mention their awards then. We beat TVD twice and they get to be on the show. You can’t tell me the CW didn’t okay this too. They shove TVD down our throats & that is why I won’t support it.
That would be Carina. She got the network line. My sources are from Clif Kosterman and Jim Michaels on Twitter. The story from Vancouver is that they could have come if they wanted, but the categories weren’t going to be presented live. They never got a formal invitation. It blows.
The CW is running ads now promoting the wins, thanking the fans. They won’t fight for their shows to get exposure on air, but it’ll all be cleared up by an ad.

“They won’t fight for their shows to get exposure on air” / well I think they should I don’t know what the people of publicity from CW are doing???? I mean is their job to look for the recognition.
I’m really upset for this, the point is Supernatural didn’t win “any” category, they just won best TV drama, is the most important category from tv series, and the PCA even broadcasted “best New tv drama”, and I felt like they were making fun of us when they presented that category in the ceremony.
Sorry is just I’m really mad because I vote a lot , I thought if spn win they were going to be in the ceremony; (I don’t know if you remember I sent you an email asking you if you thought this time the award was going to be broadcasted),,
That’s what the CW should have done, investigate if spn was going to be invited and try to put supernatural in the ceremony.
I’m sorry but I am calling out the Vampire Diaries & The CW. Supernatural beat TVD in two major categories and they have Ian & Paul present, two actors from a CW show that lost. TVD would go nuts if the situation was reversed. If the PCA wanted to limit the presenter list based on networks then J&J should have done it and their two awards mentioned as they walked on stage. This awards show didn’t recognize the peoples choice but the networks marketing choices.
I dont know how it works but if you put this awards up for wining arent they has important has all the others.SPN won so why not invite the two boys?. It seems churlish to me.
Yes, I agree, the situation blows big time. I stopped watching The People’s Choice Awards a very long time ago for this situation. Every person I was interested in seeing was never there, even though they’d win.
I won’t slam The Vampire Diaries, because I do love the show, but I think that Jensen & Jared should have been invited as guests on stage and not just as seat fillers. Sounds like the CW shares some of the responsability for that. I don’t know the intricacies of how a show like TPCA gets organized, so that’s all I’ll say about that.
Now for some positive. The show won two pretty prestigious awards. I’ve heard some people on the radio lambasting TPCA as drivel, but at least the people that keep these shows on the air are the ones who get to vote. So Power to the People!
Congratulations to everyone involved in bringing us such a wonderful show. And I will be voting for them again next year, and the year after…and so forth and so on.
I honestly don’t blame the CW at all for the non-invite. They aren’t a prestigious network so how could they force the PCA’s hand. Heck the PCA decided to NOT SHOW the result of best Network Drama rather than mention Supernatural. I don’t see what the CW could have done.
I’m just going on other people’s intel. Could be totally wrong here. But as I’ve said in my post, I don’t know how these shows get organized, so could be talking out of my hat. Not really blaming the CW.
Fifty percent of the CW is owned by CBS. Of course the CW could have done something about it! They chose The Vampire Diaries needed the exposure more.
Thanks for clearing that up for me. I did not know that CW was partly owned by CBS. So, then yeah, they should have chosen to send Jared & Jensen.
But hey, you know, at the end of the day, the show won, and I’m so happy for them all. The hard work and dedication paid off. Just goes to show what a loyal fanbase can do, PCA, CW & CBS be damned!
Considering how popular scifi programs are on cable and network TV, one would think the PCA would present that award on their program. Keep up with the times already PCA!!
When they mentioned SPN’s win on the red carpet, I almost couldn’t believe my ears because the guy announcing it almost made the whole thing seem like a casual, passing comment. Then they showed the video of Jared and Jensen, I screamed my fool head off, and ran around hugging everyone in my family. It wasn’t until later that I thought, if they were showing a pre-recorded video on the red carpet, would they still announce it during the main broadcast? I watched the whole thing, but except for a tiny mention for the sci-fi win–nothin’. It’s abominable the way the industry keeps glossing over this show. I’m ready to salt and burn.
Well, it was a truly wonderful, and special win for the cast and crew and the dedicated voters. And I am so very happy for them.
Watched the whole boring show and suffered through Sandler’s lame boring schtick so I would see my boys, maybe.
Throw away line from some girl says they won Sci/Fi Fantasy award. Where was the drama award? NEVER SAW IT!
Kept waking up at night and wondering if I blinked and missed who won the best drama award!
What a thrill to find this article. Thanks Alice.
And a great big BOOOOOOOO to CBS and the PCA powers that be that snubbed our show AGAIN!! I guess they were embarrassed that a big network show did not win. TOUGH!
Am so very proud of our boys and their wonderful crew to get this awesome win! And a big stick my tongue out at CBS! 😛
You weren’t the only one waking up during the night but in my case it was because my blood pressure was so high from being so ticked off. I am completely disillusioned. I spent hours upon hours voting because I wanted to send a clear message to J2 and the entire crew that I sincerely appreciate the wonderful job they do. I was misled to believe that even though no other award show would recognize my favorite series that this one would. Instead I honestly feel that CBS and TPCA show sent a loud and clear message to our boys that they are NOT ever going to be invited to play in the big kids’ sandbox. So now I am asking myself: did I actually contribute to making J2 feel worse about their accomplishments? This is INTOLERABLE.
Laura Prudom at the Huffington Post has a nice article highlighting the snub of Supernatural at the awards show. PCA’s action was really despicable.
Yes, I have yet to read the article, but many other bloggers have been on Twitter agreeing with it. I’ll have the link up in our Latest SPN News section.
Way to go Super Natural!
Kim
Hi Leah!!
Can you see this?
I’m new to computers and this is my 1st attempt at posting a comment but this PCA thing has me angry. Those wonderful and hardworking actors and crewmembers deserved their moment!! Shame on CBS and PCA for slighting them. You can bet your butt that if NCIS had won they would have been all over it. This is one of the finest shows that has ever been on TV and I’ve been watching for over 50 years. Sad and a travesty! Kudoes to Jared and Jensen and the rest of the folks at SPN for doing a marvelous job.
Wow, I just ‘googled’ PCA 2012 winners and there is no mention of SPN. Then I added ‘supernatural’ to the search and there is only one actual mention about the wins. There is more coverage about TVD then about SPN.
I also voted for TVD when they weren’t up against SPN. The show is ok, but sometimes it gets a little too soap opera for me.
You know what, even though SPN doesn’t get the coverage that some of the other ‘winners’ get, we all know which show has the most loyal and loving fans. 😀
We did good, guys and gals.
First the tv guide cover, then the PCA’s, what is next, the emmys?
In regard to my previous comments, I realize NCIS might not have been one of the nominees but since nothing was mentioned on the broadcast I frankly could’nt remember who the contenders were. My point remains the same, the superior show won.
You are so right Leah!
And I too have been watching TV for over 50 years and no other show has ever grabbed me like this one has.
CBS and PCA should issue an abject apology, but I bet they won’t. 😡
Thanks Bevie! I guess the bottom line for me is even when this show isn’t at the top of it’s game it’s still better than most of whats on TV. I know that chances are slim anyone is going to apoligize but it’s still frustrating that this great little show that gets so little attention couldn’t have this one moment.
I am so very proud that our show won these awards. And you know, last night I was pretty upset too that they snubbed Supernatural. But I also thought the awards show sucked out loud. I’ve never watched it before so I don’t have a reference point on whether this is how they are all presented, but I found it to be boring with really lame jokes and an over-abundance of CVS commercials. I am really glad they didn’t invite Jensen and Jared to present so they didn’t have to be inflicted with having to deliver those horrendous lines. It was hard enough watching David Boreanaz having to do it. It was one of the cheesiest things I’ve ever watched.
I watched it before when they were up for the SciFi award. They didn’t get a mention then either when they won .
It was a dreadful two hours then and it still is. The only thing that would make me watch is the hope to see the boys get some recognition and perhaps some of the ignorant populace would maybe try to watch an episode or two of the show. They could be surprised at the quality they have been missing out on. I would be cringing at the thought of them having to deliver icky lines too, though.
Sandler was actually embarrassing. What the heck was he going on about?
So satisfying that they won! Haha so there! to the snubbers.
I’m so happy that my fav show win. The J’s did not loose their pants for nothing i’ll say. 🙂 whatever happen I am still proud of them and we should give them encouragement and acknowledgement as they deserve. If I remember correctly the next con will be in feb? I know I will not be able to attend but can I encourage you guys to give our boys standing ovation for 10 minutes complete with posters and banners during their time on stage? Thank you
The PCA are actually a bunch of demons. Let’s exorcise them! I just did but there are lots of them there and they are persistent bastard. I’ll do it again and again.
Come on guys!
I exorcise them on their Facebook
our show and great
a small tv
But we make too much noise for him
they have to swallow
