Supernopoly – Do It Yourself!

I’m sure a lot of you have heard about the fan-made Supernatural board game Supernopoly (http://supernopoly.livejournal.com/) that’s been floating around the Internet since 2009. I came across it while searching for a Christmas gift for my sister. I was beyond bummed to hear that the creator of the game hadn’t been able to acquire the rights to distribute it. It’s something I would have definitely bought. And I’m sure many of you would have too!

So after searching high and low for other Supernatural themed games I decided that I would just make my own version of Supernopoly. How hard could it be, right? Well, it was hard and it took forever; three months to be exact. Mostly because I didn’t have access to Photoshop so I had to create the entire game board in paint. And for those of you familiar with the paint program you know how tedious a task this was. But I finished in time for Christmas and it was a huge hit! I even made one for myself while I was at it. So I wanted to share the fruits of my labor with my Supernatural family.

A few things to note are that this is an amateur attempt at game board creation so feel free to take my ideas and make them your own or make them in Photoshop. I’m sure you’ll notice that I stole a few ideas from the original Supernopoly board; Free Pie instead of Free Parking. I couldn’t resist. Alice has given me permission to make the documents available to you all in case you wanted to print them to make your own game board and everything is editable if you decide you want to change things. (Some of the properties are a bit outdated, so you may want to make them more current.)

Here’s what I’ve included:

 

·      A .jpg document of the board. I had to play around with the copy machine until I got the size I wanted for the game board. (About 12″x12″) Fair warning that the image gets a bit pixilated as you increase the size.  I just used spray adhesive to affix the printout to foam board. It’s held up so far.

 

Supernopoly money – you’ll need 20 $500 bills, 20 $100 bills, 30 $50 bills, 50 $20 bills, 40 $10 bills, 40 $5 bills, and 40 $1 bills total.

Supernopoly Property Cards – I just printed these out on white cardstock and it works nicely.

Trunk Cards and Devil’s Trap Cards that act as the Chance and Community Chest Cards. I also printed these on white cardstock.

Instead of houses and hotels (which would still work fine if you have a regular Monopoly set lying around) I opted to do salt (houses) and burn (hotels). For salt I just used these stones I found at a craft store.

 

They kind of look like salt crystals, right? I included the image I used to create little match books for the “burn”. I just cut the actual book out of extra cardstock and glued the matches inside.

For the game pieces I was able to find a bunch of Supernatural-themed charms on Amazon.com. They work perfectly as game pieces.

There is, of course, an Impala, the colt, a cassette tape, John’s journal, an army man and a credit card. The last one is a bit of a stretch maybe but I figured it goes along with the credit card scams.
