The Supernatural fandom has always been active and generous for various charitable organizations. At this moment, two current groups of committed fans are especially doing all they can to carry on that tradition.
The first is a relatively new organization, Random Acts (http://www.therandomact.org). One of the organizers went through the line at the New Jersey Creation Con letting everyone know about what they do, that the site would be up soon and that Misha would be lending support for their cause.
On the new Random Acts website, there is a five minute video from Misha explaining the inspiration and purpose for Random Acts. He is very aware of the creativity and passion of people this fandom and is hoping to pool that energy toward conquering the world, one random act of kindness at a time. This charity organization has been setup with the purpose to do one random act of kindness after another all over the world.
A few months ago Misha organized an effort with help from fans for earthquake victims in Haiti. The money raised ended up helping three orphanages. Since then they’ve given flowers to random strangers in France and England, umbrellas to strangers in South Korea, toys to children in Mexico, new mattresses and chairs to elderly couples who haven’t had such things in half a century, made it possible for kids in Russia to make art in a public square, and they helped a kid who’s dad just lost his job by getting him a new pair of shoes of his choosing.
Misha is taking Random Acts forward in a big way. On September 5th he’s going to run as far as he can for one day. In his words, it could be 10 kilometers, it could be 100 kilometers (he’s keeping it metric). He’s asking for donations for this run, vowing to pool the earnings and Random Act’s creative talents to carry on their mission in the best way possible.
Links to donate can be found at the Random Acts website. I also encourage all of you to take time to see Misha’s video. It’s quite inspiring.
I’ve also reported in the past several times about our good friends at Support Supernatural and their ongoing fundraiser for A Dog’s Life animal rescue in Los Angeles. Despite all their promotional efforts this year, Support Supernatural has fallen behind in their targets for the fundraiser this year. In an effort to boost donations, they are running a new promotion. Below are the details as posted by Heather and Lindsay on the front page of the Support Supernatural site:
SPECIAL GIVEAWAY FOR SEPTEMBER 1ST!
We are desperate to meet our fundraising goal for A Dog’s Life Rescue in 2010. We are also VERY concerned about not being where we should be in terms of donations. We should have hit $15,000 by June 30th and we are still not there yet and it’s almost the end of August! As you can see, we have a long way to go to hit the $30,000 mark by December 31.
We refuse to give up though. As you know, we are so committed to helping A Dog’s Life Rescue that we are not above bribery!
SO…
Between TODAY and August 31st, we are holding a very special contest. If we can reach the $15,000 mark by the morning of September 1st, one lucky fan is going to win a BIG prize – one that includes some very hard to get Supernatural memorabilia!
The prize pack includes: Three Supernatural novels, 10 Supernatural magazines, 9 sets of very rare Inkworks Supernatural trading cards, a “Rescue is the new breed” bumper sticker, a “Support SPN” bumper sticker, Supernatural Season Two on DVD AND…a Season Six Supernatural poster signed by JENSEN, JARED, MISHA, JIM, ERIC KRIPKE, SERA GAMBLE AND BEN EDLUND!!!!!!!!!
It is hard enough to collect all of these autographs individually, let alone on one awesome poster!
Here’s the the very important fine print though: If we do NOT reach the goal, no one will win the prize! There are two things you need to do to help us get to our goal AND be eligible to win.
-#1: You must donate $10 or more between now and 11:59PM Eastern Time on August 31 at http://www.SPNangelsforanimals.org. (PayPal and credit card donations accepted).
–
#2: You must make one mention of our fundraiser either on Twitter or Facebook. Send us a link to your post at heatherandlindsay@supportsupernatural.com.
As you can see, not only is the money raised very important, but the awareness we raise is also extremely important.
Thank you and GOOD LUCK, Supernatural fans and friends!
Heather & Lindsay
As I’ve done in the past for Support Supernatural, I’ve shown cute pictures of my pets in support, just to prove to you all what animals do to enrich our lives (or at least give bloggers some form of cheap entertainment to share). So here we go, puppies and kitties.
Do what you can to support both these organizations. Even spreading the word will be most helpful. Good luck Random Acts and Support Supernatural with both your causes.
Your dog is ALMOST as cute as mine. 😉 I looked at my Sam (no connection to our Sam Winchester, he’s my handsome Samwise, as in the LotR character 🙂 ) and I begged and pleaded my mom to donate. I’m a sucker for pet rescue places.
Thank you for your amazing, continued support, Alice. 🙂
