Christopher Lennertz and The Boys Score at Creative Arts Emmys
I saw this name on the list of Creative Arts Emmys winners and it really made me cheer. This is someone near and dear to our hearts! Christopher Lennertz, one of the series long music composers for Supernatural, scoring 164 episodes in total, won his very first Emmy award for The Boys. He took the award, Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics, for the episode “We’ll Keep The Red Flag Flying Here.”
Lennertz started on The Boys while finishing Supernatural at the same time, and in this past season four, he was tasked to take on an original song for one very demented “Vought on Ice” segment. “Let’s put the Christ Back in Christmas” is a ridiculous parody of the mantra of right wing evangelicals every holiday season, Jesus is the reason for the season, not Santa Claus. Here’s a clip of the song from The Boys:
What’s missing from this clip is what happens next; a messy disembowelment by laser eyes, blood spurting, appendage removing mayhem thanks to a panic by performers fleeing on ice skates, all because Homelander lost his temper. Needless to say, Vought on Ice was cancelled. That isn’t on YouTube, you’ll have to go to Amazon to see that!
Eric Kripke shared this gem, a KTLA re-enactment! It’s pretty wild and includes an segment with Lennertz himself:
@ktla5news was sacrilicious this morning! Emmy voters: do the right thing for yourself and the nation. Vote “Put the Christ Back in Christmas” for best song. @TheBoysTV #FYC #TheBoys @PrimeVideo pic.twitter.com/LJCozRCBuy

This was Lennertz’s second nomination. He was nominated back on season two of The Boys for the equally ridiculous “Never Truly Vanish,” a tribute to Translucent, the invisible supe that was blown up by Hughie Campbell in season one.
Chris Lennertz has a history with the Winchester Family Business. Aside from online interaction, I got to interview Chris back in 2012 at Comic Con. He was such a joy to talk to and so passionate about the work he was doing on Supernatural as part of the BMI panel with other series composers. Nightsky got to interview him and other composers at Comic Con in 2019 for another panel, “Anatomy of a Superhero.” She has the full video interview in her article!
Congratulations Chris from all of us here at the Winchester Family Business! We have been your fans for years and are thrilled to finally see this coveted achievement in your career.
In other Emmy news, The Boys won two other awards at the Creative Arts Emmys. Stunt Coordinator John Koyama took his second Emmy award for The Boys in Outstanding Stunt Coordination for a Drama Programming. He also won in 2023. Jennifer Murray, River Godland, Alec Back, and Moses Nyarko won for Outstanding Stunt Performance for the episode “The Insider.”
Congrats to all the Emmy winners!
