Salute To Supernatural in Burbank 2012 Report: Jared and Jensen Breakfast

 

 
It isn’t often I get to do the Gold ticket thing when I go to these conventions, but when an opportunity came up to get one, in a warmer locale during a winter season, I was there!  This morning I attended the Gold Ticket Members breakfast, where the honored guests were none other than Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki.  
 
We were expecting the boys at 9 am, but as what often happens with these guys 9 am had come and there was no sign of them.  We were told they were on the way, leading to a nice rush to the ladies room.  Yes, coffee at 7:45 will do that. 

 

 
Disclaimer, this report is my account of the events.  I have a pretty good memory, but I’m sure I got some of these events out of order.  Other that the order, everything else is accurate.  Also, all pictures were taken by me.  So if you’re going to share them (and please feel free) please give credit to Alice Jester or The Winchester Family Business.  

About fifteen or twenty minutes later, eventually Jensen came on the stage.  Only Jensen.  He looked a little awkward, trying to explain why the taller guy next to him was missing.  It seems that Jared had sent the car sent for him to Jensen, thinking Jensen didn’t have a car.  As Jensen explained it, he got Jared’s car, and Jared must be walking.  There were several holding their breaths in the room at first that Jared’s absence was due to the “any day now” status of Jared’s very pregnant wife Gen.  We were told later in the photo ops line by their bodyguard Clif that Gen is more than ready for this kid to come out, but she’s still waiting.  
 
Jensen started talking about a dinner party that Danneel threw for his birthday when Jared came in.  Jensen only had to wing it a few minutes.  Once Jared got settled, taking off his usual con beanie cap, Jensen continued the story.  Jared and Steve Carlson were there.  The chef that was hired was pretty hot looking and the guys were really enjoying watching her prepare food.  Yes, the smile on Jensen’s face when he told that story was priceless. 
 
They took an unofficial poll of who in the crowd lived in Burbank and who lived out of town.  A lot were from out of town.  Jensen said he lived in Burbank when he first moved to California.  
 
Someone shouted how disappointed they were that Bobby was dead.  The guys agreed, but Jensen did think that “Death’s Door” was one of the best episodes of the series.  Then someone shouted out People’s Choice and they thanked us for that as well.  
 
In the “He did what???” category for the morning, Jensen was having issues with the position of his microphone.  So he lowered it.  To his crotch!  Oh yes, that got a room full of ladies howling and cheering.  Naturally, Jared had fun with this.  “Ah, the stories he could tell.”  More howling, and I swear I saw some people fall out of their chairs.  
 
They were asked about season 8.  Jensen said they wanted to come here with some news and asked, but couldn’t get any official word yet.  However, they’re really confident.  They see it happening.  

 
Are they going to do movies this summer?  No, they learned their lesson after season four.  It was too exhausting, especially when they’re shooting into mid April this time because of the 23rd episode.  That gives them a shorter break.  Plus, Jared has his hands full right now. 
 
Someone asked Jared if he and Gen have a name for the baby yet.  Nope.  They’re gonna wait until the baby is born.  Jensen said he wasn’t named for 3 days.  “And he’s never been the same,” said Jared.  

 
Jared was asked a Longhorn question.  I do apologize about being ignorant about the Longhorns, but it had something to do with silly names of its players or draft picks.  Jared’s preference is “Major” for you fans.  Jensen suggested they name his boy “Colonel Padalecki.”  
 
When will the Impala be back?  They start shooting episode 20 tomorrow, and there’s no sign of her in that one.  This seems to be a sore spot for Jensen.  He’s not enjoying all the different junker cars they’ve been sticking him in.  He really feels bad for Dean.  

 
What’s the craziest thing to ever happen to Sam and Dean?  “Nutcracker!” Jared responded, doing the same motion as the guy on “Changing Channels.”  They thought the actor that played the game show host was hilarious.  He would do his Japanese act and then when they cut, he’d speak perfect English.  
 
Will Danneel ever be on “Supernatural?”  Jensen doesn’t see it happening.  It’s not her type of show.  
 
A fun discussion evolved from that trying to explain the show to people.  Both guys couldn’t give it a simple summary.  The first season was so simple, it started with two guys in a car taking on urban legends.  Now, they can’t explain it.  Jensen even demonstrated his usual reaction of shaking his head and fighting for words when trying to come up with something.  Jared said someone would ask are there angels.  Yes, but not right now.  What about the devil?  Yes, that was him for a little bit.  Are there vampires?  No, but we’ve had those before.  They’ve done it all.   

 
I think it’s hilarious that this conversation came up, since I had the same experience in the shuttle bus Friday on the way from the airport.  The people in the van hadn’t heard of the show and when I tried to describe it, I just couldn’t.  I certainly didn’t convince them that I was of sound mind traveling as far as I did just to spend a weekend in a hotel talking about this show none of them had heard of and couldn’t be clearly defined.  Some people in the van had heard of The CW though, so that was progress.  
 
Here’s a great piece of news.  Jared and Jensen have recently recorded an audio commentary for “Slash Fiction.”  It’ll be part of the S7 DVD set.  This is the first time since season one that they’ve done an audio commentary.  

 
Jared told the story about how he had to have surgery to repair his broken wrist.  They were filming “No Exit.”  He was under anesthesia the day before but he went to work the next day anyway.  He was pretty doped up.  He had fallen down some stairs and was having trouble with the scenes, so they told him to lie down.  He goes to his trailer, falls asleep and a few hours later they wake him to tell him he’s wrapped for the day.  He went home and when he woke up the next morning, he didn’t remember the last 36 hours.  
 
Jared talked to his doctor about the whole thing and the doctor was stunned he went to work the next day.  Seems like the doctor had to give him extra anesthesia to knock him out.  He was really difficult.  That stuff should have really messed him up as much as he got of it.

 
What are their dream cars?  Jared’s is a Generation Two Corvette.  Jensen delivered the quote of the breakfast, for he only has one dream car.  “There’s a certain car I do want but I have to wait until a certain show is over and get it in my contract.”
 
The breakfast then ended and the boys were rushed off to photo ops.  They were on a very tight schedule the whole day and running late hadn’t helped any.  The autograph line as it was ran in power signing mode.  Later came the panel, and that was quite an event itself.
