What an episode. I’ve mentioned before that some of my favorite episodes of Supernatural are the ones where we get to see the Winchesters being their competent and confident selves, and this episode was a perfect example. I thought the episode was properly structured, focusing primarily on the Winchesters, whilst also moving our story forward with Jack…
The Morning After Well, that was intense. Between watching Jack eat the heart of someone he murdered, causing me to worry what evil manifestation of Jack had returned, and being scared to death about Sam and Dean staking their lives on a pool game against a goddess, my poor heart was pounding through my chest…
Then: We see the inept Winchesters from last week’s episode, “All good things must come to an end,” Michael/Adam telling them about the way to trap God, Chuck destroying that spell, a mention of grigori hunting humans, Sam and Dean determined to go to Alaska to restore their luck. Now: The song “North to Alaska”…

What a fascinating episode. The last few episodes have been very confusing and confounding for me, so it was nice to have a simpler episode, but one which was no less emotionally and thematically relevant and complex.
The Morning After On the surface, Supernatural’s “The Heroes’ Journey” was a hilarious break in the intensity of the brothers’ lives, watching Sam and Dean fumble and bumble around like two extremely uncoordinated buffoons in a bunker! It was also a delightful goodbye to Garth, who got to save the day and live happily ever…
THEN: Chuck says, “I hate missing my favorite show.” The Winchesters kill monsters. Lots of killing. Dean says, “We’re the guys who saved the world.” We see Garth with his werewolf wife. Chuck says, “You still think you’re the hero of this story.” He destroys their spell and says, “That was just the beginning. This…

I’ve been processing this episode for almost a week, and I’m still kind of struggling to figure out what I think. We’ll go with what I know first and then try and unpack what I’m not so certain of.
The Morning After I’m excited to explore the implications of Supernatural’s 15th mid-season premiere, “The Trap”! It answered many questions, but the pursuit of those answers raised many intriguing issues – philosophical, mythological and logical in nature. The episode was also an emotional ringer. Brilliantly acted by all involved (need I mention Jared, Jensen, Misha…
The Road So Far: God is back, Jack is dead, “Welcome to the end,” Amara tells Chuck that he needs her, Rowena does her spell and falls into the gulf in the earth, Michael/Adam tells them they need a leviathan blossom in Purgatory and opens a rift Now: A plastic pink elephant with an uplifted…
