The WFB Spoilery Lite/Speculative Preview: Supernatural 10.07, “Girls, Girls, Girls”
I get to pull preview duty this week, which is kind of bizarre for me for two reasons. For one, I haven’t done one of these previews in a while and two, I’m writing a preview about an episode that I have absolutely no clue what it’s about! Yes, call it being spoilerphobic, laziness, or suffering from just plain lack of time (probably all three), but I didn’t read one thing about this episode nor did I pay much attention to last week’s preview clip. So you all probably know a lot more than me! I’m expecting you to share your wisdom about the episode in the comments.
The title is “Girls, Girls, Girls” and it’s written by one of my favorite SPN writers, Robert Berens. I got to meet him at Comic Con this summer (he sat right behind me at the SPN panel) and he is the nicest guy! He writes some pretty creative stories. The director is the always solid, master at great storytelling with a camera, Bob Singer. What a team! How about we check out this vague, nondescript synopsis of the episode from The CW:
SUPERNATURAL “Girls, Girls, Girls” — Nov. 25, 2014 ROWENA REAPPEARS
Sam and Dean stumble upon a demon who is running from Crowley. Before they have a chance to shut him down, Rowena (guest star Ruth Connell) steps in and takes things into her own hands. Realizing Rowena is trying to recruit and train followers in the art of witchcraft, Sam and Dean come up with a plan to catch her before she can do much damage. Meanwhile, Hannah (guest star Erica Carroll) runs into a blast from her vessel’s past, which complicates things for her and Castiel. Robert Singer directed this episode written by Robert Berens (1007). Original airdate 11/25/2014.
I know a lot of you have an inclination of who Rowena is, but I’m not going into details. This is a spoilery lite preview and I’m lazy…um…spoilerphobic, remember? If she’s who some of you say she is, I have to wonder, why? I guess I’ll wait for the episode to find out. Robert Berens tweeted this about the episode last week, and that set off a flurry of speculation too.
Well on the minus side that #supernatural promo gives away too much. On the plus side it’s totally misleading and contains one outright lie.

Here’s that misleading preview. Yes, that is a Dean Winchester dating profile, complete with season one photo for the total misdirection about his real age, just like all of those ads.

Berens confessed on Twitter that he got the idea for Dean Winchester’s dating profile during that SPN panel at Comic Con because someone asked that question (I remember it well) and he just happened to be writing this script at the time.

So, hopefully we can expect some laughs, some action, maybe some very weird angel on angel sex (doubtful!), Dean on someone not named Bruce, and Crowley being…Crowley. I’m just glad to see the real Castiel and Crowley again after a few weeks of them not being part of the story.

The woman was clearly DTF but couldn’t Dean have told Sam what his plans were? Dean pulling stunts like that has to be one of the downsides of Sam and Dean having to ride together in the Impala everywhere they go.
They better give a good reason for Dean being able to throw a man through a windshield.
Well a) it better not be the Impala’s windshield and b) brother banter!!! Sam is laughing!!!!! 😮
The car’s interior doesn’t look like the Impala’s. Maybe someone who has powers helped Dean in the fight?
Alice, I don’t think that dating profile picture of Dean is from his season one era. He isn’t wearing the amulet in the picture.

You might be right, cheryl42. Even without the Blade, Dean demonstrated increased strength due to the mark last season. In 9.15 [i] THINMAN[/i], Dean seemed to be very much in control when he pushed the knife inside one of the perpetrators. Yes, Sam had been able to decapitate Gordon but Dean seemed to find it quite easy to overpower a vampire in 9.19 [i] Alex Annie Alexis Ann[/i].

Okay, I see what you meant. Why would Dean have taken a picture like that of himself and kept it for ten years? Ah, Dean’s vanity… 😀 And it’s weird that he had taken the amulet off at the time!

I don’t think Dean’s day is going to go to plan with this particular girl – since I don’t think she is really as much of a volunteer as she appears to be in the promo (or maybe she’s the witch and its a double bluff) and apparently he is going to discover that – but it will happen before the end of the episode 😉 Sam will not have much problem with being dragged on an 8 hour road trip so that Dean can get laid – after all he does get to laugh at his dating profile…
Somehow I got the idea the very first time I saw the promo that Demon!Dean and Crowley were somehow connected to do with this whateveritis – witch brothel? Am I misunderstanding what the episode is about?
the profile had dean at 35….but technically, since he was 26 when he got sam, and we are ten years later, shouldn’t his profile say he’s 36? vanity indeed:D
unless he’s been on a dating app since last season…..I don’t know….he seemed a little busy last season to be interested in dating….;)
I watched the trailer and that was Cole being thrown thru the windshield by Dean; maybe Cole has been doing his homework and get’s “amped up” by a witch or possessed by a demon to take on Dean again?
More importantly, Sam says “pretty gnarly” in the trailer – what’s up with that? That’s not a very “Sam” thing to say.
Gut feeling that this episode is going to move ahead/develop a lot of the arcs for the remainder of the season.

Well, in 6.06 [i] You Can’t Handle the Truth [/i] there was a lady who told Dean, [i] “I’m sitting like this so you’ll look at my breasts. I just bought them. I need a lot of attention.” [/i] Dean said, [i] “Good luck with that,” [/i] but then he came back to check her out.
I do think that the show started to have more variety in the types of women Sam and Dean would be interested in as the Winchesters got older.

The profile picture is hella cheesy but he thinks he looks cool! Dean probably thought that having the car in the picture would entice the ladies and he wanted to show his body because he was planning on getting naked with his dates.
Maybe the picture was “Me and my ride” type of thing originally. Dean used to value the amulet so why wasn’t it in the picture? Was it too ugly?
I think Dean has issues with getting older.

At this rate, turning 40 is gonna hit Dean hard.
Dean was born on January 24 so he doesn’t have much leeway to claim he is 35. He didn’t lie about being 29 though so maybe that’s progress. I think he wanted to show a number that is close to his real age but he picked a picture that is about ten years old so the women would think he looks really young for his age. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Shaylene is supposedly 26 years old.
I wonder what kind of role Sam will have.
Jensen was filming episode 10.07 when he tweeted:

Jared and Jensen spent time in Austin when Hannah and Castiel’s scenes were being filmed. I think it’s safe to say that the show will dedicate time to those characters in order to wrap up the storyline.
Well, Sam will interact with Dean at the very least. Some fans on the set heard Jared and Jensen film a scene where Sam and Dean have an argument.

I will have to say that was an underwhelming sneak peak. It looks like we’ve traded Abaddon (very cool sinister adversary) for Rowena (very over acted, admittedly by everyone in the scene). I’d say it looks like a big step down.
“The punishment doesn’t fit the crime” tends to be a problem when witches deal out their own brand of justice. Dean would not support sex trafficking but he doesn’t think twice about using the services of prostitutes and strippers and he loves to consume porn. Dean might end up being in trouble if Rowena is on a mission to “empower” women. Her motives are self-serving though.

Dean and Castiel visited a brothel in 5.03 [i] Free to Be You and Me.[/i] Dean was having a drink with one of the working girls. Maybe he didn’t plan on having sex with her but he supported the place.

I think Rowena is targeting women who have been hurt by men. Sam and Dean are onto her so I don’t think Rowena will try to punish Dean on her own initiative.
