Welcome to the season 13 general spoilers. The newest entries can be found at the end. Enjoy!

PAGE 2!

The introduction text at the start will always be the same and even though there are "no rules" there are some guidelines for these pages. These pages will be updated frequently when the material is available.

1. Site rules are also good guidelines for the discussion.
2. Use Spoilers! word at start if you have a new spoiler about an unaired episode that people can discuss. The updates show on the main page.
3. When the episode has aired Spoilers! is not needed.
4. For all, this is a page to analyze, speculate, discuss about the episode BUT do it past your good/bad personal opinion about the show, a character, story, writer, show runner or anything that is part of the show. Target is to keep the discussion going and fun for all. Also the ideas, speculation and episode analyzes I have heard really deserves a spot to get out.
5. All are welcome!
6. Everyone can participate by adding the rumors/spoilers they find.

From Supernatural Season 13 Spoiler sheet They are pretty reliable with spoilers, but not 100%

  • There will be an Animated SCOOBY DOO crossover episode. No I’m not making this up. (x) It will be written by Jeremy Adams and Jim Krieg. Jared, Jensen AND MISHA have already recorded their voice parts. This will be episode 16. (x)
  • Here’s what we knew about Mark Sheppard and Misha in Season 13 as of May 19. On May 20, Jared lets slip that Misha is going to be int eh scooby Doo episode so we WILL GET MISHA/CAS Back. Will update more as more information becomes available re; Mark, Ruth.
  • The Nephilim - Jack - is played by Alexander Calvert.
  • Kim and Briana mentioned at Asylum 18 that something was in the works for Season 13, involving them. This was repeated at JIB con by Briana and she mentioned it would be “All four of us” and it might be Next year so, this could be in 2018. (x)
  • Richard Speight Jr. is once again directing 2 episodes.
  • Prep begins June 26. Now, I’m not sure if that means shooting starts the 10th or the 17th, but we’ll know by mid-June.
  • Jensen is NOT directing. It was the plan but he had to pull out because of the brewery opening. :(
  • Something for season 13 was already shot during the shooting of episode 22!
  • The writers returned to start work on the season on May 15.
  • The writing staff is unchanged from season 12: Andrew Dabb and Robert Singer are showrunners, writers: Brad Buckner and Eugenie Ross-Leming, Robert Berens, Meredith Glynn, Steve Yockey, Davy Perez, John Bring (writers assistant, occasional writer).
  • Should be 23 episodes.

If previous years are an indicator, Season 13 should premier on October 12. The day and timeslot - Thursday at 8pm, remains the same as the second half of season 12.
Supernatural was renewed for season 13 on January 8, 2017.

Question: I’m fully aware it’s only June, but that’s not going to stop me from asking for a little fall preview on Supernatural. —Sam

Ausiello: Last month’s Supernatural finale definitely set the stage for an explosive Season 13, but you might want to rewatch an earlier episode for some clues about what’s in store for the Winchesters & Co. As you may recall, in the producers’ preview for Season 12’s “Ladies Drink Free,” executive producer Robert Singer revealed that the installment “very subtly tees up something that we’re going to revisit next [season].” So of course, we asked EP Andrew Dabb to elaborate. “That’s something we’re probably more comfortable talking about around Comic-Con,” he responded. “We have some really interesting things in the works.”

https://movietvtechgeeks.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/mark-pellegrino-lucifer-supernatural-movie-tv-tech-geeks-interview-696x392.jpg

Mark Pellegrino gets deep on Lucifer, ‘Supernatural,’ American Capitalist Party from movietvtechgeeks

In your opinion, what is the first thing Luci will do in Bizarro world – other than throw a tantrum?

Yeah – I mean, he’s stuck there with Mary, the Winchesters’ mom; so it’s a very interesting question. In this new, alternative universe seems to be sort of third base in Lucifer’s apocalyptic vision, right, so instead of having to go through any of the previous steps he’s got it right there. I think his first order of business is to revenge himself on the Winchesters. His primary goal is to hook up with his son and join forces with his son. Even though he’s been sort of handed the gift of an apocalyptic world where he can probably immediately take charge, he may be conceited enough to toss that option out the door and go for I want to remake this process from base 1 to base 2 to base 3 and then home plate in my own way and not be handed this gift. I think it’s taken care of Mary, use her as a hostage to get the Winchesters to open up that portal and join forces with his son.

Are there any hints you can give us about the fate of Cas, Crowley or Rowena?

You know, I can’t … and it’s not like I know. I am very interested in seeing where Andrew is going to take the next season. I can’t believe anybody’s dead, but they are. I’d like to see how they deal with the characters. I mean in my mind, Crowley is too smart a CEO not to have thought of every contingency there is out there, that’s the kind of guy he’s demonstrated himself to be. Rowena, I mean, he’s a chip off Rowena’s block. She has the same kind of wiliness and craftiness about her and I can’t imagine a witch has survived hundreds of years, gotten to the position that she’s gotten, without being extremely insightful about the way events can go. I can’t believe that she’s just a burned heap of red sequined dress in a classy hotel room. Cas especially, I mean – the one element in this whole formula that changes everything is this alternative universe. Who knows what kind of parallel elements are there besides Bobby? Is Jimmy in that universe? I don’t know. Is Rowena, in a different way? Is Fergus there? I don’t know. Anything goes. We’re in no man’s land – it’s unpredictable, that’s what I love about it.

Quite a few of my friends and I, we think that quite possibly the Castiel that actually sacrificed himself and Lucifer killed, wasn’t the Cas from the main reality, but is from the alternative reality.

How are you getting that?

The exchanges that he had with the boys and with Kelly, mostly … Before he went to the alter reality he was very much hands-on with regards to Lucifer’s child. I’ve taken dula classes, I’m going to deliver this baby, that sort of thing – afterward, he’s like standing at the door, kind of watching everything … there is one conversation that we never see the entirety of – it basically was, “Remember paradise,” or something like that … so it’s definitely a possibility.

Hmm. Wow. That’s interesting. I don’t know, I didn’t get that from anything, but you guys are awful creative and is this now public? I mean, have you guys theorized this stuff out loud?

Yes, there’s more than one of us, actually … there’s a lot of ideas, rationalizations … I don’t know if you follow anyone who was at JIBcon this last weekend …

--

The thing with the nephilim, Jack, the other idea is that Jack actually comes upon the little video that Kelly makes for her son, who says well, you have an angel watching over you … and he finds Castiel dead and says, well, he’s supposed to taking care of me then I suppose I should revive him …

This is possible too. This is my greatest fear as Lucifer, is that the nephilim has an alliance, a real love for Cas, as opposed to his real father. It would sort of fit into that orphan template. One of the things I really love about Supernatural, I wrote in a forward to a book coming out about it, is that everybody’s an orphan; they’re not just family by blood, they are family by choice, by the values that you love. It would be quite a statement for the nephilim to reject his biological father in favor of Castiel, his spiritual father. It certainly speaks to what we consider fatherhood and would make us reconsider what those roles actually mean. I was hoping that Lucifer would actually become a better being by route through the fact that he had to take care of someone else. Instead of nurturing him to his own purposes, fatherhood can often be a game-changer for many man, and I was hoping it would be the same for an angel … in other words, Lucifer has an issue with his father; there’s no better way to learn how flawed your father is and love him in spite of it than being a father yourself. I was hoping; I don’t know if it’s good drama, but I was hoping fatherhood would teach Lucifer to repent and reconnect with his own father and understand that maybe dad wasn’t as bad as he thinks he is.

The nephilim is definitely another wildcard; he’d have the power to open the portal again, he can bring Lucifer out, he can do anything. It all depends on how he perceives all the principals. Does he perceive them as enemies, is Lucifer, his dad, an ally; I don’t know man, I’m going crazy!

Do you have any words of comfort for the fans of Castiel, Rowena or Crowley?

None. Nah, they’re going to have to sit in their pain until the first episode airs, and then maybe even beyond. I know the family, and I love them. I’m just being impish … if I did have words of encouragement, if I knew anything, maybe I would give the hint just give the fans a little bit of relief, but I don’t.Do you have any words of comfort for the fans of Castiel, Rowena or Crowley?

From Supernatural Season 13 Spoiler sheet

The production office reopened on June 19.

Kim and Briana have seen a script from next season, and Kim tweeted to Kathryn Newton about seeing her “a lot” soon - this may be the Wayward Daughters episode we’ve all wanted. Considering that j2 said at Phoenix that they have not seen scripts yet, this may be a script from last season that was bumped to season 13.

Andrew Dabb hinted that something related to Claire may be revealed closer to San Diego Comic Con

Supernatural Spinoff Wayward Sisters Starring Kim Rhodes Eyed at The CW

https://pmctvline2.files.wordpress.com/2017/06/jody-mills.jpg

The CW is taking another stab at a Supernatural spinoff, this one built around Kim Rhodes’ Sheriff Jody Mills.

According to Deadline, which first broke the news, the premise for the potential offshoot — tentatively titled Wayward Sisters — will be introduced in a Season 13 episode of Supernatural. Here’s the conceit: Sheriff Mills (played by Rhodes) and a group of troubled young women, all of them orphaned by supernatural tragedy, will team up as a supreme monster-fighting force.

“Unlike the original series, which centers on a biological brothers, Wayward Sisters is about a sisterhood of girls in a foster family,” Deadline reports.
The project is being shepherded by Supernatural writers-producers Andrew Dabb, Robert Singer, Phil Sgriccia, and Robert Berens.

Deadline speculates that two existing Supernatural characters, orphan Claire Novak and runaway Alex Jones, could be featured in the offshoot alongside Rhodes (whose character was first introduced in Season 5).

Back in 2014, The CW developed a Supernatural spinoff billed as a “sweeping drama about the mafia-esque monster families that, unknowingly to humans, run the underbelly of Chicago and who are being tracked by a newly minted Hunter.” Titled Supernatural: Bloodlines, the project never made it beyond a pilot.

ETA: Nevermind. Casting spoilers have now been removed from IMDb.

More spoilers or a massive screw up or a big joke or all of the above from the IMDb pages for episodes 2, 3, 4, 5, 9, 10, 18, 21, 22, 23.

I wanted to check out the actor who plays Jack and saw he was already set up for episode 13.23 then checked to see who else might already be cast for that episode. What a surprise. See image below (hopefully).

Of course, then I had to see what other casting might already have been arranged for S13. Looks like SPN's writers are auditioning to write AU's for The Flash.

Check it out yourself, starting here.

First Jim Michael's tweeted the S13 pin with Baby split down the middle.

Second there was the SPN Tape Ball Instagram of Jared alone tagged #birth (of the season's tape ball) and #new beginning and then
another Instagram of the S13 Pin along with used tape markers in Red, Yellow, Orange, Green and possibly Beige but no Blue tagged part tapeball part time machine.

Third Kevin Parks tweeted a picture of the of the location scene where Jared was filming that shows the edge of a hunter's funeral pyre in the bottom right of the frame.

Ominous and kind of exciting.

Wayward Sisters spoilers from Mashable!

Since Castiel died in the Season 12 finale, the other panelists had plenty of fun at Collins' expense (he entered the panel late, dragging his own smaller chair on stage), joking that he wouldn't be returning to the show. When asked what he'd been up to this season, Collins quipped, "You can’t plant tomatoes 'til July, so that’s what I’m getting into now."

Singer confirmed that Collins' Castiel would be returning — Padalecki even intimated that he should come back naked, but Dabb insisted, "I don’t know that we can afford the blur effects" — but they gave no further details about the circumstances surrounding the fan-favorite character's revival.

Cas isn't the only character who'll be back from the dead in Season 13 — in the apocalyptic alternate universe that Mary (Samantha Smith) and Lucifer (Mark Pellegrino) were transported to, Dabb promised, "some people who have been long dead on our show are still alive in apocalypse world and much different characters."

Back in the "real world," fan favorite Kansas psychic Missouri Moseley (Loretta Devine) will be back for the first time since Season 1.

The show also confirmed casting for the Supernatural spinoff Wayward Sisters — read the details about the characters (one of whom has a connection to Missouri) below:

Leading the group is Sioux Falls Sheriff Jody Mills (Kim Rhodes), an associate of Bobby Singer, who has grown to be one of Sam and Dean Winchester’s most trusted friends and allies. A foster mother to Claire Novak, Alex Jones and new character Patience Turner, Jody’s greatest challenge will be to prepare them for the battles ahead.

Lending Jody a hand will be series fan-favorite Sheriff Donna Hanscum (Briana Buckmaster), a relative novice to the hunter’s life, but a close friend who Jody can confide in.

Claire Novak (Kathryn Newton) was introduced to the supernatural world when her father became the vessel for the angel Castiel (series star Misha Collins). Now, a gifted hunter, she lives with Jody, but struggles against her rules.

Also taken in under Jody’s wing, Alex Jones (Katherine Ramdeen) was rescued by the Winchesters from a family of vampires who used her as a lure for unsuspecting humans. Traumatized by the violence, she has resolved not to hunt…until a threat emerges in Sioux Falls that threatens her new family.

A new member of the Wayward Sisterhood is the character Patience Turner (Clark Backo), a high school over-achiever whose life is turned upside down when she discovers she’s a powerful psychic, a gift she inherited from her estranged grandmother (and Season 1 Supernatural character) Missouri Moseley. Hunted by dark forces for her power, Patience finds refuge with Jody and her wayward family.

Spoilers from TVInsider

Even for Supernatural, the season finale was dark: shocking deaths, disappearances, a hellish alternate Earth. Will next season be close to a reboot? Yes. I’m not sure we’ve had a finale that has the body count and kind of ramifications that this one had. The Lucifer story became a setup for what we want to explore in Season 13. We’ve delved into alternate realities before, but we’re taking it to an extreme.

What are some of those explorations? What does it mean that Jack (Alexander Calvert) is Lucifer’s kid and Mary and Lucifer are together in the alt Apocalypse World? Plus Castiel, [former Hell king] Crowley (Mark A. Sheppard) and [his mom] Rowena (Ruth Connell) all appear to be dead. That’s fertile ground for next season.

Are these beloved characters really dead and gone? No one’s ever really dead on Supernatural, but I’m not saying that any of them will necessarily be back—at least for a while.
Sam and Dean must care for the motherless Jack. Are they intent on siphoning his angel grace to make the incredibly powerful Nephilim more human? That’s the question, because if they [do], he’ll lose his power and be unable to open the door to get Mary back. The guys may have some conflict over that.

Will we quickly learn whether Jack is evil like his father? He had an evil source, but he’s a blank slate. It’s a nature-nurture thing. If Season 12 was about children coming to terms with their moms as adults, then Season 13 is very much about Sam and Dean as parents.

The Apocalypse World that Lucifer and Mary are trapped in is anything but paradise. On the other hand, long-dead family friend Bobby Singer (Jim Beaver) is there as a hunter! The fun thing about the alternative Earth is that it allows us to bring back a lot of characters in ways that are not pure. Every other Supernatural character could theoretically have an entirely new life there. We’re going to have a war zone unlike anything we’ve seen.

Supernatural doesn’t technically have a theme song, but if it did, it’d be “Carry On My Wayward Son” by Kansas, which is why, on Sunday, the San Diego Comic-Con panel kicked off with a performance from the band.

Kansas just performed at the #Supernatural panel! pic.twitter.com/rknYsWEBb0

— Natalie Abrams (@NatalieAbrams) July 23, 2017

Moderators Rob Benedict and Richard Speight Jr. then took the stage to moderate the panel with stars Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, and Misha Collins, as well as executive producers Bob Singer and Andrew Dabb.

First up, Collins addressed Castiel’s “death,” to which he simply promised fans, “I’m not going away.”

Moving to the question of Jack, Lucifer’s Nephilim, Ackles talked about how the Winchesters will react to this new being. As he put it, Sam and Dean will handle things “differently … In Dean’s mind, [Jack] just simply has to go.” But because Sam is ever the optimist, he won’t necessarily agree with Dean’s more practical approach. As Padalecki said, “Jack is half-Lucifer but he’s also half-Kelly Cline.” So expect Sam to disagree with Dean’s “shoot first, ask questions later” attitude.

But Jack isn’t the only thing Sam and Dean are going to butt heads about. When it comes to Mary, Singer said, “Dean thinks she’s gone.” And because of that, Dean is trying to accept that and move on, whereas Sam is “holding onto the fact that she could still be alive. That’s a problem between the guys.” Singer added, “Spoiler alert: Mom is not dead.”

And although she’s not dead, Mary is currently in a post-apocalyptic world with Lucifer, and seeing as how Bobby — or at least a version of him — appeared in that world in the season 12 finale, Dabb said there’s hope to see more characters return… both in the real world and in the new one. “Some people who have been long dead on our show are less dead in [the] apocalyptic world,” Dabb said, adding that they will be “much different characters.”

For the final question, a fan asked which character would make a good spin-off, to which Dabb pointed to the potential new Wayward Sisters show and said, “We feel they would make an extremely exciting addition to the Supernatural universe.” A backdoor pilot for the series, featuring fan-favorites Kim Rhodes and Briana Buckmaster, is expected to air during season 13. Kathryn Newton, Katherine Ramdeen, and Clark Backo will also appear.

From Supernaturalwiki Season 13 spoilers from Comic-Con 2017

At its core it’s a more personal season than the last one - Bob Singer

Dean is convinced that Mary is dead, and will be initially unable to process the enormity of his grief over the loss of her and Cas. Other than praying to God for help, he will deal with things by being angry and trying to take action. Unfortunately, the first target in his sights its Jack, and Dean thinks he is so potentially dangerous he should be killed.

Sam represses his feelings of grief as well, particularly by focusing on Jack. He will be more optimistic about Jack, and his potential humanity. He also sees something of his self in Jack – as he was also the child with demon blood who was meant to be evil. He may have some fear that Dean’s attitude to Jack reflects a deep-seated lingering attitude to himself.
Sam points out of course that Jack is possibly the only way to open the rift the other realm.

The Brothers
As we saw last season, the brothers’ relationship has evolved to where they are in a much more stable and cooperative phase of their relationship. They do still argue about how to get things done -such as dealing with Jack.
Both the boys will inevitably need to deal with their feelings at some point.

Castiel
When Cas does come back, we find him in a realm that’s been talked about but never seen. He finds himself alone in this realm with only one other companion – another powerful (and handsome) being.
Cas’ death doesn’t shake Cas that much but it is hugely important for the impact it has on the boys
Cas is finally coming to accept that he does belong with the Winchesters, he trusts that now, and its reciprocal.

The Alternate World
We will see how introducing elements of our world into it, and vice versa, changes each world.
There will be versions of characters there who have died in our world.
Mary is alive.

Watch out for …
The cosmic consequences of Billy the reapers death.
There is a character called Michael in this season but not the Michael you think.
There will be some fallout from the British Men of Letters – they have had some influence on the boys, and they wont have been forgotten.

Supernatural Season 13 Spoiler Sheet!

General stuff
Castiel will eventually be reunited with the boys, and Jack, by episode 6.
We will see Cas is another realm that’s been discussed but never mentioned, interacting with another new character played by a “handsome” actor.
Dean will be deep into grieving for Cas and Mary, as he thinks Mary is dead. Sam is less broken up, and thinks Mary is alive.
Sam and Dean will clash over Jack. Dean wants to kill him, Sam wants to help him and maybe use him to get Mary back.
Episode 11 will be similar to “the vessel” in that it will be an ambitious scale.
Misha has read scripts that have Cas elements that will be challenging.

From Digital Spy Misha Collins reveals first details of Castiel's resurrection in Supernatural season 13

"Cas – when he does come back as more than a lifeless body – we find him in a realm that we've talked about on Supernatural before but have never seen," he revealed. "He finds himself alone in this realm with only one other companion, who is another powerful being, played by a great actress."

In the interim, Collins said that Castiel's absence will have a profound impact on the Winchester brothers.

"The most relevant aspect of Castiel's death, this time, is how the boys process it. Ultimately, as the season plays out, Castiel's death is gonna be less important for him then it is for the boys, who go through the grieving process and really have to deal with the loss of their friend."
Dean Winchester in 'Supernatural' season 12

Jensen Ackles revealed to us that Dean in particular will struggle with the loss of Castiel, and Crowley (Mark Sheppard), and Kelly (Courtney Ford) – damn, that was a tough finale.

"The exact moment we left off – literally with Cas at Dean's feet – is where we show up at the beginning of season 13," Ackles said. "It's interesting, 'cause Mom is gone and presumably dead, Crowley just killed himself, Cas is now lying dead at Dean's feet. Kelly's gone... it's too much for Dean to process at that moment.

"So he does the thing that he knows how to do best and that is neutralise the threat – as in, Lucifer's son – so he's just gonna do that, 'cause that's something that he can hit. There's too much emotion, he doesn't know how to process, so he's just gonna do what he knows and that's hit something – hard."
Dean and Sam Winchester in 'Supernatural'

Dean's behaviour will lead to a "struggle" between him and Sam (Jared Padalecki): " It's certainly not going back to the seasons when they were really at odds. It's more of, 'Let's figure out how to handle this situation' – Sam wants to deal with it one way, Dean wants to deal with it another.

"They're not gonna argue about it, they're gonna eventually get to the same place... it's just how they get there is a little different. But at some point, Dean's gonna have to deal with [his grief] and that'll be probably a pretty hard episode."
Chuck Shurley in 'Supernatural'

In his turmoil, Dean will even turn to God – which means something quite different in the Supernatural universe.

"Once he realises the severity of the situation, he tries to reach out to God, who as we all know is gone. But he figures he'll take a stab at it."

Could God / Chuck Shurley (Rob Benedict) be the latest SPN favourite to make a comeback in season 13? We've got everything crossed...

From TVLine Supernatural EP Teases 'New' Big Bad (and No, It's Not Lucifer's Spawn)

As if the arrival of Lucifer’s offspring — not to mention, the losses of pal Castiel, mom Mary and frenemy Crowley — wasn’t enough for the Winchesters to contend with, Supernatural is also pitting Dean and Sam against a familiar enemy in Season 13.

“[Lucifer’s child] Jack is not the biggest threat they are dealing with,” executive producer Andrew Dabb revealed during a San Diego Comic-Con interview. While the EP declined to identify which evildoer gets that special title, he hinted that “it’s an old — let’s call him friend — who we have not seen for many years.”
The mysterious foe “probably is not currently in our world,” Dabb added. “He [is] from the alternate world,” where some of the show’s deceased characters are still alive and kicking.

Could the Big Bad be the archangel Michael, who was trapped in Lucifer’s cage during Season 5 and, last we heard, driven mad? “I’ll plead the fifth on that one,” Dabb responded.
Whoever the returning player is, he “will create many, many problems” for Dean and Sam. (We wouldn’t expect anything less.)

“Supernatural” Going Smaller With Season 13

The tenth season saw Death himself killed, the eleventh season dealt with God and his sister, and the twelfth season chucked in the sadistic British Men of Letters along with Lucifer’s return and his son and an alternate dimension.

Executive producer Robert Singer tells Cinema Blend that the plan for S13 is to return the focus to the core family-brothers dynamic of the early seasons:

“Deliberately we’re not doing like, I mean last year was pretty big with the British Men of Letters and the whole sort of organizational thing and all that, and this year we made a conscious effort that we wanted to go a little smaller and more personal so with mom in the apocalypse world with Lucifer and the boys having to deal with Satan’s son we thought there would be a lot of emotional possibilities and that’s kind of what we wanted to play with this year. Last year was about bringing the family back together, this year is what do you do when your family gets blown apart.”

The new season of “Supernatural” premieres Thursday October 12th.

Supernatural Season 13: Who will open the rift from the alternate world?

Someone in the alternate world is expected to open the rift in Supernatural Season 13. Just who could it be?

Supernatural showrunner Robert Singer revealed more than it initially seemed about Season 13 at SDCC 2017. Hidden Remote learned that someone in the rift world will be part of the process of opening the rift again to get Mary out of that alternate world. The big question now is who that will be.

There are a few clues from the interview. Singer shared that it would be someone the show is bringing back and in that world. Unfortunately that means it can’t be John Winchester, as he is already confirmed dead in that world. This is a world where the Winchesters were never born, as it seems Mary never made a deal with Azazel for John’s life.

Could it be an archangel?

Fans already have theories about who will come back. Michael is a firm favorite at the moment, with fans crying out for Adam to come back as his vessel. This wouldn’t really be possible, as without John alive there would be no Adam Milligan either. However, that doesn’t stop Michael from coming into the show in some way. He would certainly be powerful enough to open a rift in time, and would likely want to get rid of the Lucifer from the Winchester’s world if he is around.

There are other archangels that are probably still alive in the rift world. Gabriel would be the easiest to bring back, as Richard Speight Jr. is still involved in Supernatural. The AU Lucifer would be another excellent option, opening the rift to get rid of his alternate self to avoid upsetting some sort of balance.

“When we go to the Rift World, it’s really about, ‘How to we get out of here?’ There’s one character that we’re bringing back in a really interesting way that is going to try to help open the Rift to their world.”

–Robert Singer, Supernatural EP

Will we see Rowena again?

Another theory is that Rowena could be the one to open it. While her fate in the real world is unknown, the rift world Rowena is likely still alive. She may have a hand in opening the rift from the alternate world.

This could work with Mary currently trapped in that world. She would look up people who have helped them in the real world, and Rowena is certainly one of them. Alternatively, Lucifer could be the one to pay Rowena a visit. He will want to get back to the real world with his son, and will turn to one of the most powerful witches he knows. Let’s just hope he doesn’t tell this Rowena that he possibly turned the other Rowena into charcoal.

Could Ruby or another demon play a part?

Demons are commonly overlooked. They’ve become slightly mediocre in recent years, but Singer said that a character is coming back in a “really interesting way.” This would suggest a character that we haven’t seen for a while. Ruby would certainly fit the bill and would be possible. After all, Ruby 2.0 was played by Jared Padalecki’s wife, Genevieve, and Ruby 1.0 is currently filming Arrow next door!

Another theory is that Bela Talbot could return. She would have made the same hell deal in this rift world and could certainly return as a demon. We’d need a new actress to play her, as Lauren Cohen is currently in The Walking Dead and Bela’s real body would have decayed too much now. With her interest in artefacts and new demonic powers, she may have enough to open the rift.

Ask Ausiello: Spoilers on The Flash, Grey's Anatomy, This Is Us, Scandal, Supernatural, Lucifer, Chi Fire and More from TVLine

Question: Please tell me there’s a chance Supernatural will do the right thing and give us some Crowley in Season 13. —April

Ausiello: Mark Sheppard may’ve closed the door on his character’s return, but the show hasn’t. “We love Mark,” executive producer Andrew Dabb tells TVLine. “We think he’s awesome, and he’s been great on the show. At this point in time, [his potential return] is a little up in the air. Where we took Crowley, where he ended up, made sense for us in a lot of different ways. I would never write off anyone coming back on the show, but I’d be lying to you if I said there were plans to bring him back in, like, Episode 3.”

Question: I’m dying for a scoop on Supernatural‘s animated episode. Will we actually meet ‘toon versions of Sam and Dean? Spoil me crazy, please! —Cordell

Ausiello: At Comic-Con, Jensen Ackles teased that the installment is “very Scooby-Doo-esque,” but “slightly darker.” And, yes, the boys will definitely get animated. (Ackles’ reaction to his cartoon self? “‘Yes!’ How cool is that? I grew up watching Scooby-Doo. Now I’m, like, on it.”) And while executive producer Andrew Dabb says the hour is “about as far outside of the box as we get” in Season 13, there is another fun adventure in store for the Winchesters. “We’ve got an episode coming up after our midseason break, which we’re essentially titling ‘Stakes on a Train,'” Dabb shares. “It’s our version of a train heist with vampires.”

Spoilers from TVLine

SUPERNATURAL
Cutting to the chase, “death is not the end for Castiel,” executive producer Andrew Dabb reports. “That being said, when we pick up our season he’s more dead than people usually get on our show. Castiel has a big role to play for us, but that may not be as soon as some people are hoping.” Meanwhile, the Winchester brothers, Dean especially, are reeling from the double whammy of losing their friend and their mom Mary. “There’s no one they can call,” Dabb notes, “so our guys are a bit on their own, a little spun out, both emotionally and in terms of the plot.” On top of that, they’re “acting as parents” to Lucifer’s “walking atomic bomb” offspring. “There are parts of him and things he does that they really love,” Dabb shares, “and there are parts of him and things he does that worry them a bit.” In the alt apocalypse world, Mary’s attempt to run away from Lucifer doesn’t go as well as she had hoped, while the fallen archangel finds that he “may not be the most powerful” creature over there.

BONUS SPOILER!: “Even if it’s not played by an actor that we recognize, there are certain characters that are going to come back in different bodies,” Dabb hints.

Spoiler from Entertainment Weekly

“The Michael of apocalypse world is the victor,” showrunner Andrew Dabb says of the new version of the character, who will be played by Christian Keyes. “He’s a very different character than the one we met even in season 5. He’s Genghis Khan. He’s been through the wars. He’s conquered the world.” All the brothers can hope now is that he won’t conquer theirs, seeing as how Dabb says the worlds will collide…eventually.

From TVLine.

Supernatural‘s Dean lost his mother just after reconciling with her, his best friend and his frenemy all at once. How will this affect him? —Adder
“That’s one of the reasons that Cas is deader than normal, because we want to play with that [grief],” showrunner Andrew Dabb tells TVLine. ” With Dean, especially, everything he’s lost… He feels it hard. He’s put so much hope in building up Team Free Will 2.0 and building up this very cool group of people he’s working with. He’s opened himself up in a lot of different ways with Mary, with Crowley, with Cas, and he’s been punched in the heart about a million times in the last season. So you’re dealing with someone who’s a little bit more guarded, a little bit more jaded, a little bit more not necessarily asking, ‘What’s it all for?’ but certainly asking, ‘Did they do the right thing? Should they have made the sacrifices they made? Should they have asked other people to make the sacrifices they made?’ Those are all questions that are at the forefront of our guys’ minds.”

Dean and Sam Winchester, congrats! You’re now in charge of a (very large) newborn!

In these photos from Supernatural‘s Season 13 premiere, the brothers find themselves tending to Lucifer’s offspring, Jack (played by Arrow‘s Alexander Calvert), who has come out of the womb “physically fully-formed,” but “with no agenda,” executive producer Andrew Dabb told TVLine during our Fall

“He’s, in a lot of ways, a blank slate,” the EP continued. “So he’s going to take guidance from the people around him, and the people around him are Sam and Dean. Yes, he’s the son of the devil, but he’s also the son of Kelly Kline. Is he good? Is he evil?

As he looks at Sam and Dean, our guys are complicated characters. I don’t think you can say that everything they do is 100-percent lawful good. Our guys make sacrifices [and] compromises.

How will he learn from those lessons? How do Sam and Dean want to teach him during those lessons? Do they want to help him around certain mistakes that they had made?

All these are questions we’re dealing with as…Sam and Dean are, to a large degree, acting as parents in this season, which is a new thing for them and for everyone involved.”

Supernatural Season 13 premieres on Thursday, Oct. 12, at 8/7c on The CW.

EW can exclusively reveal that Yadira Guevara-Prip will recur on season 13 of Supernatural as Kaia Nieves, and should the backdoor pilot for Wayward Sisters get picked up to series, she will become a regular on the spin-off.

The article goes on to describe the character, named Kaia Nieves.

As for Kaia, her character description reveals she lost her family at a young age. By the time she reached adulthood, she was on her own, completely disconnected from her roots, as she tried to understand a burgeoning gift: In her dreams, Kaia walks between worlds — a rare and terrifying power she experiences only as a curse… a power she doesn’t understand and can’t yet control. Flinty, sarcastic, and profoundly haunted, Kaia is nevertheless strong and willful as hell — she’s had to be to survive this long on her own.

Hey SPN lovers - I only discovered Supernatural last fall - I literally took days off work and power-watched all 11 1/2 seasons...BEST "vacation" EVER!! Since then I have read and watched everything out there that I can find. My next goal - a SPN Convention of course. Anyway, counting down the minutes til Season 13 premiere and there are a couple of characters that were fan favs that no one has mentioned that could make a return and that is Jo and Ellen.......What about the possibility of them kickin some butt from the AU..!? Was glad to see that Missouri is being brought back - just re-watched that episode for about the 10th run thru so she was on my mind. Anyway, I am happy and proud to be a part of SPN and sooooo glad I found all you guys, fans, cast, and actors....love you all !!!!!!!

CB: Lip Sync Battle is WILD! We tape in front of live audiences so the energy in the soundstage is always incredibly infectious.

NAN: What are you allowed to share about the film “Opening Night?” I noticed that another “Supernatural” alum Alona Tal was in it as well. Tell your fans about this film, and did you get to swap any Jared and Jensen stories while on set?

CB: We shot “Opening Night” a few years ago, so rather than Jared and Jensen stories, Alona and I bonded while rapping one-hit wonder lyrics in our Amadeus wigs; which were so itchy!

NAN: What are you allowed to share about your film “You Killed My Mother” and any other projects that you have in the works?

CB: “You Killed My Mother” was very special as I personally connected to a lot of Jo’s story. I’m really looking forward to its release and the audience’s relationship with it.
This week I start working on an indie horror flick I’m really excited about! Stay tuned!

Question: Will Supernatural‘s Sam and/or Dean have a romantic interest in Season 13? —Elle S.

Ausiello: “I don’t think this is that show, honestly,” executive producer Andrew Dabb tells TVLine. “Neither of them is looking for love, let’s put it that way. Sam has been in love multiple times, and Dean has had his own relationships… There was a time when Sam and Dean, and particularly Sam at one point, thought they could have a normal life and walk away from the fight. I don’t think either of our guys look at it that way anymore. They know they’re going to fight until they can’t fight anymore, either until they win or they die. When you’re committed to that fight, the idea of bringing someone into that and being like, ‘Hey, let’s get married’ [doesn’t compute]. I’m not sure either of our guys is really looking for that at this point in time.”

‘Supernatural’ Boss Says Season 13 Sees the Winchesters the ‘Most Alone’ They’ve Been from Variety.

https://pmcvariety.files.wordpress.com/2017/09/supernatural-cw.jpg

When the CW’s long-running demon-hunting drama “Supernatural” returns with its 13th season, brothers Dean and Sam Winchester (Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki) are not separated from each other but from a different Winchester family member — their mother, Mary (Samantha Smith), who fell through the rip between worlds at the end of last season.

“This will be the most alone Sam and Dean have been,” series executive producer Andrew Dabb tells Variety. “They don’t have Castiel, they don’t have Crowley, they don’t have Mom, they don’t have Rowena. They have each other and this weird kid who could probably kill them if he wanted to.”

When season 13 starts, the Winchesters will feel an urgency to get to the bottom of how Jack (Alexander Calvert) can tap into his powers as Lucifer’s son to re-open the rip between worlds. “Overall, the push for mom is the driving factor behind a lot of what our guys do and the melodrama between them in the first chunk of the season,” Dabb says, adding that the question really is if and how Jack will help them.

The son of Lucifer is a “blank slate” when season 13 starts, which allows the show to play with the question of whether nature or nurture means the most to who a person becomes.

“As much as last season was about Sam and Dean being kids, this season is about them as parents,” Dabb says, adding that Jack begins to see the Winchesters as “role models.”

On the flip side, Dean and Sam begin to see themselves reflected in Jack at times. “Sam was cursed with powers for a big chunk of the show, and Dean sees this kid who is eager to please his dad and wonders if he’s turning into his father,” Dabb says. “And we say with kids all of the time, you hope they get your best qualities, but sometimes they get your worst qualities. Sam and Dean have been through dark times, and that’s something Jack will be exposed to.”

Convincing Jack to help them may take some time, as will teaching Jack how to harness and focus the power to re-open the rip. But that is not a new dilemma for a show that always mixes heavy mythology episodes with standalone cases of the week. Season 13 will follow the “general pattern” of the show, Dabb says, with episodes one, two, seven and nine being myth-heavy, exploring the alternate, apocalypse world sporadically.

“We won’t spend a lot of time with Mary and Lucifer in the apocalypse world, as we’re still most focused, and our audience cares most about, following Sam and Dean,” Dabb admits.

But having the world at their disposal to dip into occasionally opens up new storytelling opportunities for the show that has become known for going big with its season-long myth arcs. Although there is only one of each cosmic player (like God, Amara, or Death) in the world of “Supernatural,” anyone below that level (like archangels, Lucifer, and yes, Crowley) could have a counterpoint in the apocalypse world. Dabb says it’s “not a guarantee” that everyone does – after all, that is a world without Sam and Dean – but it is something the writers are playing with as a way to introduce some new versions of characters, like the archangel Michael (Christian Keyes). “The new Michael is a warrior. He already killed the Lucifer of his world, so it’s a new point of view. He doesn’t care about our Lucifer, and he doesn’t care about Dean – at least not at first,” Dabb says.

And although Castiel (Misha Collins) will be back in season 13, even though he appeared to die in the season 12 finale, he will not suddenly pop up “midway through episode one,” says Dabb. “Dean, and Jack to a great extent, had a great bond with Castiel, and they have to marinate a little bit and feel the loss. So even when he makes his triumphant return as a changed character, they’ll have an even bigger reaction.”

The apocalypse world is also a way for the writers to reinforce just how important Dean and Sam are after all of this time. “As the season progresses we are spending more time in the apocalypse world. It’s an on-going resource to really show the horrible difference in what the world looks like without these guys,” Dabb says.

And to that end, Dabb says that although the apocalypse world is not intended to be a new five-year arc, he also can’t say for sure that it will all be resolved in season 13. “What’s bigger than God? The answer is nothing. So after we did that, it was really about new directions that we could take our characters that will give them new things to react to? This opens up a lot of storytelling ideas in that way,” Dabb says.

Supernatural: Osric Chau returning as Kevin in season 13

When Supernatural introduced the apocalypse world in season 12 — an alternate universe where Sam and Dean were never born — it opened a door of possibility in terms of bringing back old characters that fans haven’t seen in years. And it all started when the season 12 finale saw Sam, Dean, and Cas come face-to-face with a new version of Bobby Singer. So now the question is: Who’s next?

The Supernatural showrunners have said that some long-dead characters will return this year, and EW can reveal that Kevin Tran (Osric Chau) is among them. Kevin first appeared in the show’s seventh season and remained a key figure until his death in season 9 (after which he still made a couple appearances).

But remember, when he shows up this time, it won’t be the prophet you know and love. “It’s a different Kevin,” co-showrunner Robert Singer says. “It’s Osric, but it’s different so we’re having a lot of fun playing with that.” Co-showrunner Andrew Dabb adds, “The triumphant return of Kevin will be really fun. We don’t want to make the alternate world an endless parade of [old characters], but it does present us with opportunities if we can find a new interpretation on a character we like — like Bobby Singer last year, like Kevin this year, like Michael. You don’t want to make it a gimmick, but you don’t want to totally ignore the opportunity, and I think we have an opportunity here, so we definitely are going to use it selectively.”

At this point, there’s no word on when we’ll see Kevin or for how long.

'Supernatural' Season 13 sees the Winchesters dealing with grief, fatherhood, and the spawn of Satan from Mashable

Supernatural kicked off its lucky 13th season on an emotional note, with Sam and Dean saying a heartbreaking farewell to Castiel — along with all the other allies they've lost in recent months — and reluctantly taking Lucifer's newborn son, Jack (who happens to be a full-grown dude) under their wing.

Luckily for fans, we already know that Cas is coming back this season, so we don't need to mourn Misha Collins' resilient angel — but for the Winchesters, that loss is potent and, as far as they know, permanent.

"This profound sense of loss lingers over several episodes. He’s not coming back real soon, and it influences, greatly, Dean’s state of mind," says producer Brad Buckner, who was joined by his writing partner Eugenie Ross-Leming and star Jared Padalecki for a press conference to discuss the Season 13 premiere. "Both the guys have had to rebound from stuff over and over and just kind of shake it off and go on with the family business, and this overwhelming loss at the start of the season is something that Dean just can’t dig his way out of yet."

That grief is compounded by Dean's feeling that the Winchesters are truly alone in this fight — as demonstrated by his desperate prayer to Chuck to bring back Cas and their mother, Mary, which once again went unanswered.

"It’s not only the loss of Cas, which is huge for the guys — but especially for Dean, it’s another nail in the coffin about the loss of hope," agrees Ross-Leming. "He has to come up with a reason to have purpose; every battle, he feels like he’s swimming backwards ... You just feel that there’s a growing hopelessness and futility to his existence, and could lead to a certain kind of nihilism. I don’t think we’ll go that nihilistic, but for him it’s a personal loss, but it’s also a cosmic loss of what’s the point of being here, when you scream at the wilderness and get nothing back?"

When Castiel does eventually return, Padalecki says that his unexpected resurrection will bring mixed emotions for the boys.

"There's obviously great relief. But there's also – and we'll see how it comes about – great concern about, wait a second, you saw us burn him. I don't know if we've had somebody come back after they've been salted and burned," he points out. "There's some genuine concern about what could have made this happen, who made this happen, why they made it happen. Can you trust it? Can you trust this version? When I came back, I was soulless. Is this different? There are a lot of questions in the air. Obviously, the major emotion is relief and happiness. But as is the case with all Supernatural, the other shoe might drop. So we'll see what happens."

Meanwhile, rumors of Mary Winchester's death have been greatly exaggerated — she's currently stuck in an alternate universe with Lucifer, and with Jack's burgeoning powers still a mystery to him and the Winchesters, there's no clear way for them to get back to their timeline.

When Mary and Lucifer tumbled through the rip in reality, they were locked in a fight to the death, but right now Lucifer seems to have called a ceasefire.

"He knows a way he could make use of her. He's an opportunist, and he thinks there's a way he can use her to his own advantage," says Buckner.

"She's a pawn in his big-picture game," adds Ross-Leming. "The angels generally are middle management. They sort of do what they've been told; they're not policy makers, but Lucifer is a big picture guy, so he always has a plan... Mary's a piece of his puzzle."

The final minutes of the Season 13 premiere indicated that Dean is certain their mother is dead, while Sam "is not convinced," per Padalecki.

"Who knows if it's a sensation or a feeling he has, or it's just dumb hope, but there's another side to him and Jack, where Jack opened the rift once, maybe he is the only person who can open it again," he says. "I think Sam, the way he grieves, seems to be like 'okay, well, I'm going to try and focus on this, and get back to the rift, and see if Jack can do this, because I believe in him like people have believed in me,' and so we see Sam taking that route."

The producers hint that the alternate timeline will be a fixture in the show for much of Season 13 — which will allow us to see some familiar faces who might be long dead in our timeline, like Jim Beaver's Bobby, who we saw in the Season 12 finale. "Ultimately, this world becomes yet another threat that gets built to in the course of the season. So that’s been a lot of fun," says Buckner.

But while Mary and Lucifer (and hopefully some old friends) are dealing with the drama of the alternate timeline, Sam and Dean have to deal with the more pressing concern of what to do with Jack.

His inclusion allows the show to reinvent itself once again, with a villain who might not be a villain at all; an examination of morality that could test everything Sam and Dean believe; and an opportunity to see how the Winchesters' parenting styles differ.

"I think Sam relates to him in lots of ways, that person who doesn’t quite belong, the person who has been left, abandoned. So I think there’s already that kind of psychological bonding going on," says Buckner. "Dean’s going to take a while. Sam I think comes at any problem more from scientific method. He examines the evidence, and if the evidence leads you to one conclusion, then that seems sort of obvious. And Dean operates off of his gut, and what his gut is telling him is this is the spawn of Satan. And I don’t know if that kind of character has ever been presented in a favorable light. We’re conditioned to that Omen kind of thing, and this kid has got qualities that while he obviously can be potentially dangerous, he is curious and inquisitive and willing to believe, and that Sam takes as adding up those positives. So he becomes a parent first. Dean is more slow to come around and is determined to get rid of this problem."

"I mean, Dean has been a parent all his life. He’s parented Sam. They’re children of abandonment, so Dean has a lot of practice in being a parent and not as much practice in being a child. That’s a huge hole in him, his never having been nurtured that properly himself," Ross-Leming adds. "But I think with the arrival of Jack we are dealing now with, yes, he’s the son of Satan, but he’s also the son of humanity. We don’t actually know ourselves — although there’s arguments about this — where he’s going to go in terms of what his destiny is. But what that has led us as writers to do is to start redefining what is good and evil anyway? I think this season will be a little more nuanced."

Jared Padalecki on ‘Supernatural’ Season 13: Sam Wants Redemption for Jack from Variety

“Supernatural” star Jared Padalecki admits that there always comes a point in the summer before the long-running CW drama is scheduled to go back into production that he wonders just what the show will do now to keep things fresh, interesting and yes, scary. But after the events of last season’s finale, which saw Lucifer’s son Jack (Alexander Calvert) born, as well as the introduction of an alternate world in which Sam (Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) had never been born, let alone saved the world, he felt confident the 13th season would feel “super fresh.”

And things are off to a strong, even if dark, start. After Jack initially used his powers on Sam and Dean to escape the cabin and go looking for his father, the Winchesters were able to catch up with him and turn the tables by saving him from a trio of angels who were hunting for the nephilim, who is one of the most powerful creatures on the planet. In traditional form, Dean originally wanted just to kill Jack — who, as it turns out, might not be able to be killed at all, seeing as how an angel blade to the heart (something which should have slowed down his angel and his human side) barely left a mark. Meanwhile, Sam took the approach of trying to understand and bond with him. Although Dean has come around to allowing Jack into their lives (and their bunker) by episode’s end, Sam will still be the one leading the charge on appealing to Jack’s good side.

“I feel like Sam believes he’s good. With all of the s–t that’s happened – all the wrong roads he’s taken – Sam still has this optimism, this hope. He’s trying to manifest that onto Jack, whereas Dean, especially in this episode, he’s concerned he’s not [good],” Padalecki says, noting that the sense of “feeling out there or different” is something he’s always loved as a storyline for Sam, and that’s something the character has in common with Jack.

“Sam doesn’t want to be wrong, and he doesn’t want to be careless if this kid, or this nephilim being, is evil. he doesn’t want to be blind to it, but he definitely does see a chance for redemption. He wants Jack to be good to see the same redemption that I think Sam seeks for himself.”

“Supernatural,” therefore, will be playing with the “nature versus nurture concept” this season, as the Winchesters attempt to guide Jack toward the reasons behind doing good things and saving people. However, outside forces beyond their control are making their marks on him, as well. Already in the premiere he has formed feelings about angels based on the way they came for him. And in the next episode, Asmodeus (guest star Jeffrey Vincent Parise), the new Prince of Hell, is coming after him, too.

The Winchesters’ feelings about themselves will get “transposed” onto how they “parent” Jack and help him deal with these threats. And executive producer Brad Buckner adds that will lend itself to scenes with Sam trying to give Jack lessons on how to harness his powers and only use them at specific times and for good. But gaining full control is going to be a “slow roll out.”

“Right now he is at the mercy of impulse. He senses something or feels something and wham, a power he didn’t even know he has emerges. He is this tremendously powerful figure,” Buckner says. “He just doesn’t know how to access it on a conscious level.”

Just how powerful is Jack? “The nephilim lore is that the nephilim becomes more powerful than the angel who sired it,” says Padalecki. “In this case that angel is an Archangel, Lucifer.”

The only other being with the level of power Jack has may just be God (Rob Benedict), who, as the Season 13 premiere shows, is still ignoring Dean’s pleas for help. For Dean, this kind of “cosmic loss,” coupled with the physical losses of Castiel (Misha Collins) and his mother Mary (Samantha Smith), who he is convinced Lucifer (Mark Pellegrino) has killed over in that alternate world, causes a nihilistic view and overall loss of hope.

Buckner believes such profound grief causes “such inertia” that Dean may be immobilized at times. This may force Sam to “keep the training running.” After all, as Padalecki points out, Sam is not convinced Mary is dead, so he still has enough hope they can get her back if they can get Jack on their side.

“Who knows if it’s a sensation or a feeling he has or dumb hope, but Jack opened the rift once, so maybe he can open it again,” Padalecki acknowledges. “And Sam sometimes creates his own carrot on a stick to go after, so I think Sam, the way he grieves, is to go, ‘OK well, I’m going to focus on this and see if Jack can do this and guide him because I believe in him the way people believed in me.’ So we see Sam taking that route.”

Executive producer Eugenie Ross-Leming notes these opposing ways will lead to “day to day conflict” between the brothers. But that won’t stop them from getting up everyday and continuing to work alongside each other to do what they have always done best. “Things start to unfold that take their attention and suddenly they don’t have as much time to reflect or brood or grieve,” Ross-Leming says. “They have to go into action, and who they are as people is revealed in how they act with the soon-to-be-revealed crises.”

One of these crises might just be the eventual return of Castiel. After all, the Season 13 premiere saw the Winchesters salting and burning his body, and yet somehow he will still manage to bounce back. “There’s some genuine concern about what could have made this happen, who made it happen, why they made it happen. Can you trust it? Can you trust this version? When I came back, I was soulless,” Padalecki says. “Obviously the major emotion is relief and happiness, but as is the case with all ‘Supernatural,’ the other shoe might drop.”

‘Supernatural’: Jared Padalecki on the Powerful ‘Luke Skywalker’ and How the Brothers Would React to Castiel’s Return from IndieWire

http://www.indiewire.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/sn1301a_0112r2.jpg

[Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers from the Season 13 premiere, titled “Lost and Found.”]

For “Supernatural,” 13 is a lucky number considering The CW series has lasted this long. After watching the premiere of the 13th season, its new, more poignant approach to the Winchesters’ story could be exactly what the show needs to keep on going for another 13 more years.

The premiere picks up with Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) still reeling from the loss of so many: their mother Mary (Samantha Smith) whom Lucifer (Pellegrino) took care of, Castiel (Misha Collins), and Crowley (Mark Sheppard). Even for a show with a high body count, those deaths have to sting and make a difference to our heroes. And they do. Despite what viewers know – that Castiel will be back in some form, and that Mary is in the alternate world with Lucifer – there’s a mournful yet resigned tone to the episode. This is the reality when you hunt monsters, and maybe too, when you get older.

After a dozen years of this, Sam and Dean are no longer the hot-headed upstarts. They’re the old guard, or at least it feels that way now that they’re in charge of Lucifer’s half-human grown son Jack (the appropriately brooding Alexander Calvert). After a misunderstanding in which Dean shoots first, as is his wont, the elder Winchester is now willing to wait it out and be ready for the kid’s evil side to appear, along with his mysterious powers. That could be a very dangerous mistake.

“We find out that the nephilim lore is that the nephilim becomes more powerful than the angel who sired it,” Padalecki said in an interview with press for a screening of the premiere. “In this case that angel is an archangel, Lucifer, and it’s another playing with Joseph Campbell’s archetpyes, the ultimately powerful being who doesn’t really know how to – going back to Yoda and Luke Skywalker – just trying to figure out how to even access [the powers] much less hone them. And in his particular instance, it’s almost a knee-jerk reaction. Early on, Sam and Dean are leading the charge because they also don’t want to walk down the street and go ‘Hey, be nice to this kid. He’s the son of Satan. Don’t piss him off.’ So the situation requires some tact and some covert ops but we will obviously see him be influenced by other factions.”

Executive producer Brad Buckner added, “It gives us a chance to do some really charming scenes with Sam trying to feel his way along and trying to deal with this kid as a son and give him lessons and slowly give him little exercises to try to control this stuff. It’s a learning situation for everybody.”

Below, Padalecki, Buckner and executive producer Eugenie Ross-Leming dig into the episode and give an idea of what’s in store for Sam and Dean this season.

Jack’s Two Foster Dads

As seen in the episode, Sam is far more willing to see Jack as an innocent, despite his evil parentage. Dean doesn’t, given their track record with Lucifer. Besides, he’s also dealing with a crisis of faith now that his prayers have seemingly been ignored by God/Chuck.

“I’m trying to play Sam as if he feels like a bit of a connection,” said Padalecki. “We explore that a bit more, and I really enjoy the way it kind of ramps up a little bit as the season carries on, where Sam doesn’t want to be wrong, but he doesn’t want to be careless if this kid, if this nephilim being is going to be evil. He doesn’t want to just be blind to it, but he certainly does see a bit of a chance for redemption. He wants Jack to be good to see the same redemption that I think Sam seeks himself.”

In contrast, Dean isn’t so easily won over. “Dean operates off of his gut, and what his gut is telling him is this is the spawn of Satan,” said Buckner. “I don’t know if that kind of character has ever been presented in a favorable light. So we’re conditioned to that ‘Omen’ kind of thing. This kid has got qualities that while he’s obviously can be potentially dangerous, he is curious and inquisitive and willing to believe, and that Sam takes as adding up those positives.”

Ross Leming added, “Yes, he’s the son of Satan, but he’s also the son of humanity. And so we don’t actually know ourselves… where he’s going to go in terms of what his destiny is. But what has led us as writers to do is to start redefining what is good and evil anyway. I think this season will be a little more nuanced. Yes Crowley was evil, but playful. But I think now we’re going to have the ultimate evil, may be not so ultimate. They’ll be shades of what really evil means in mankind terms.”

http://www.indiewire.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/sn1301b_0384b.jpg

Jack’s Powers

“It takes a long time for him to get to a point where he actually has full control,” said Buckner. “Right now he is at the mercy of impulse, he senses something or feels something and wham, a power that he didn’t even know he had emerges. He’s this tremendously powerful figure… and all that stuff is bottled up, he just doesn’t know how to access it on a conscious level.

Ross-Leming added, “As his psychology starts to catch up, he will then be faced with his own moral crossroads of, ‘How will I use this? Will this please me? Will I be motivated by pleasure, greed, power or selflessness?’ He’s got so much in his mental mixture that may surprise us.”

Castiel the Absentee Dad and His Problematic Return

Losing Castiel hits Dean particularly hard this season. “It’s another nail in the coffin about the loss of hope,” said Buckner.”He has to come up with a reason to have purpose; every battle, he feels like he’s swimming backwards. When I was watching the show this time again, you just feel that there’s a growing hopelessness and futility to his existence, and could lead to a certain kind of nihilism. For him it’s a personal loss, but it’s also a cosmic loss of what’s the point of being here when you scream at the wilderness and get nothing back.”

It’s also a loss for Jack, whose mother taught him to look to Castiel as a father figure while Jack was still in utero.

“He learned English by hearing Kelly (Courtney Ford), Kelly spoke to him all the time,” said Buckner. “One of the messages that she gave him was that Castiel will be your guardian, because Castiel really took over their defense and got them away from bad situations and Castiel was really there for them, and he promised Kelly that he would make sure no harm came to Jack. So somehow all of this got transmitted into Jack’s DNA and he’s left with the imprint that Castiel is his de facto father.”

Ross-Leming said, “He’s socially and chronologically naïve and new to our world, but he also has this ancient wisdom that I don’t think even he knows he has. He has a knowledge that’s sort of imprinted in his essence, which starts to unfold for him.”

Fans already know that Castiel will return to the show somehow though, and this will predictably do a number on the Winchesters when they realize he’s alive.

“There’s obviously great relief. But there’s also there’s also great concern about, ‘Wait a second.’ You saw us burn him. I don’t know if we’ve had somebody come back after they’ve been burned, salted and burned. There’s some genuine concern about what could have made this happen, who made this happen, why they made it happen. Can you trust it? Can you trust this version? When I came back, I was soulless. Is this different? There are a lot of questions in the air. Obviously, the major emotion is relief and happiness. But as is the case with all Supernatural, the other shoe might drop. There’s a little asterisk. Castiel comes back – asterisk.”

The Angels

Jack and his powers are in demand this season, and it appears that a little intimidation and bloodshed are not going to stand in anyone’s way.

“Lots of entities are after Jack, for their own reasons,” said Buckner. “Everyone, obviously, could use that kind of power in their hip pocket. The angels because he has the most direct connection to them, they want to see what’s ticking with this. They certainly were relieved when Lucifer was bottled up, and now here’s a new version of Lucifer who is the most wanted guy in Heaven. So, they’re the first to get into the act, but they aren’t the only ones.”

“There are a lot of new bad players on the scene,” Ross-Leming confirmed.

http://www.indiewire.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/sn1302a_0507b.jpg

Mary’s Plight

In the episode’s closing scene, it’s confirmed that Lucifer and Mary are in the alternate world, and for some reason, he decides not to kill her.

“She’s a pawn in his big-picture game,” said Ross-Leming. “The angels generally are middle management. They sort of do what they’ve been told; they’re not policy makers, but Lucifer is a big picture guy, so he always has a plan. Sometimes when he’s locked in a cage he can’t do anything with it, but he’s been loose now, and Mary’s a piece of his puzzle.”

A spinoff to “Supernatural” was announced earlier this year, featuring fan favorite character Sheriff Jody Mills (Kim Rhodes) providing the guiding presence for several young female hunters who’ve been orphaned by supernatural tragedy. Briana Buckmaster’s Donna Hanscum, Kathryn Newton’s Claire Novak and Katherine Ramdeen’s Alex Jones will also appear in the series, which will be introduced as a backdoor pilot.

“Its DNA will absolutely be recognizable as the child of as opposed to an entirely separate looking thing,” said Buckner.

“It’ll be born out of our context,” said Ross-Leming. “I think it’ll have the flavor of our show, with a more, as I say, estrogen-heavy slant.”

Supernatural Star Jared Padalecki, EPs Talk Winchesters' Grief, Cas' Return, 'Connection' With Jack and More from TVLine

https://pmctvline2.files.wordpress.com/2017/10/supernatural-recap.jpg

Lucky Season 13 of Supernatural got off to a heartbreaking start for Dean and Sam on Thursday.

With God not answering Dean’s prayers to bring back his loved ones, the elder Winchester was forced to accept that his mom Mary and friend Castiel are dead for good. He then salted and burned Cas’ body as a goodbye, but the emotional toll of all that the brothers have been through and lost along the way will continue to be felt.

“This episode, although it did have action, there was a reflective quality to it,” executive producer Eugenie Ross-Leming says. Throughout the season, “there’s still passion and fire and regret and revenge and all of those matinee qualities you need in an adventure, but I think there’s a deepening a little of these guys and the trip that they’ve been on.”

Brad Buckner: “There’s a… feeling of sadness to overcome, a feeling of loss this episode. And that doesn’t go away. They don’t bounce back from it right away.”
Read on for scoop on the Winchesters’ angelic reunion, the premiere’s Lucifer/Mary twist and the challenges of raising satan’s spawn Jack.

CAS | The angel is “not coming back real soon, and it influences, greatly, Dean’s state of mind,” Buckner previews. “Both of the guys have had to rebound from stuff over and over and just kind of shake it off and go on with the family business, and this overwhelming loss at the start of the season is something that Dean just can’t dig his way out of yet.” But eventually, the brothers will be reunited with their angel buddy, much to their “great relief,” star Jared Padalecki says. However, there’s also “great concern” because of what happened to Cas’ body. “I don’t know if we’ve had somebody come back after they’ve been salted and burned,” Padalecki notes. “There’s some genuine concern about what could have made this happen, who made this happen, why they made it happen. Can you trust it? Can you trust this version [of Castiel]? When [Sam] came back, [he] was soulless.” So while “the major emotion is relief and happiness,” there’s also a sense that “the other shoe might drop,” Padalecki adds.

MARY | Unbeknownst to her sons, Mama Winchester is still alive in the alternate apocalypse world — but so is Lucifer, and he might have a fate worse than death in mind for her. Rather than killing her in the premiere’s closing minutes, Lucifer declared that maybe he needs Mary. “He knows a way he could make use of her,” Buckner shares. “He’s an opportunist, and he thinks there’s a way he can use her to his own advantage.” As such, Mary is “a pawn in his big-picture game,” Ross-Leming describes. “The angels, generally, are middle management. They sort of do what they’ve been told. They’re not policy makers, but Lucifer is a big-picture guy, so he always has a plan.”

JACK | While in the womb, Lucifer’s spawn was “left with the imprint that Castiel is his de facto father,” Buckner explains. But with Cas gone, it will fall on Dean and Sam to parent him, and as seen in the season opener, they have very different approaches to the nephilim. Dean’s first instinct was to shoot Jack, while Sam took a kinder approach to the confused “kid.” “I’m trying to play Sam as if he feels, like, a bit of a connection,” Padalecki says. “We explore that a bit more, and I really enjoy the way it kind of ramps up a little bit as the season carries on. Sam doesn’t want to be wrong, but he doesn’t want to be careless if this kid, if this nephilim being, is going to be evil. He doesn’t want to just be blind to it, but he certainly does see a bit of a chance for redemption. He wants Jack to be good, to seek the same redemption that I think Sam seeks himself.”

As for Dean, he agreed to take Jack back to the bunker — until he figures out a way to end him. In the meantime, Lucifer’s son will become the newest member of the team, even bringing his own set of “peculiar gifts” to the boys’ cases. “But he doesn’t really know what he’s doing so it lends itself to some funny stuff,” Ross-Leming says. Speaking of Jack’s abilities, he’s actually even more powerful than the angel who sired him, and “has this ancient wisdom that I don’t think even he knows he has. He has a knowledge that’s imprinted in his essence, which starts to unfold for him.” It’s no wonder then that the angels want to get their hands on him, and they’re not the only ones hunting the nephilim. “Lots of entities are after Jack, for their own reasons,” Buckner teases. Adds Ross-Leming: “There are a lot of new bad players on the scene.”

How the 'Supernatural' Premiere Sets Up a Different Season 13 from The Hollywood Reporter

"The feeling of sadness and the feeling of loss, that doesn't go away," executive producer Brad Buckner said about this season's darker tone.
[Warning: The following story contains spoilers from Thursday's Supernatural season 13 premiere.]

Thirteen years in, Supernatural is changing up its formula.

The CW's longest-running series following demon-hunting brothers Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) has always been known for its high-stakes, far-reaching adventures, whether it's killing monsters, getting stuck in battles between Heaven and Hell or literally saving God (Rob Benedict) and the world. But the season 13 premiere pumped the brakes on the big action, instead focusing on the brothers' reactions to losing their mother Mary (Samantha Smith), their best friend/angel ally Castiel (Misha Collins) and demon frenemy Crowley (Mark Sheppard), all in one fell swoop. The end result was an hour that felt entirely unlike anything Supernatural has done before, with a feeling of profound loss and hopelessness permeating both the characters and the story, breathing new life into the old series.

As Sam and Dean tracked down Jack (Alexander Calvert), the son of Lucifer (Mark Pelligrino), while trying to repress their emotions, an overwhelming sense of sadness created a unique character study in what made each of the brothers so different. By the end of the hour, Dean lost all hope, breaking down and punching a wall until his knuckles bled as his prayers to God fell on deaf ears. On the flip side, Sam tried to think of literally anything they could do to fix what had been irrevocably broken, whether that meant figuring out a way to get their mother back or if it just meant saving the son of Satan and helping him find the good inside of him.

Executive producers Brad Buckner and Eugenie Ross-Leming theorize that this exploration of what makes the brothers different on a fundamental level as they deal with grief and the loss of hope is why the premiere (and subsequently the entire season) will stand out from past Supernatural seasons.

"The feeling of the first episode is a little different from our usual whiz-bang storytelling with lots of effects," Buckner told THR along with a small group of reporters. "The feeling of sadness and the feeling of loss, that doesn't go away. We don't bounce back from it right away. To take our time and explore how you work your way out of that is an interesting thing for us."

Eugenie-Ross said that because it's the 13th season, the producers had to figure out a way to go deeper with the brothers and the journey they've been on for more than a decade. Things had gotten too comfortable, which is why the premiere had "a reflective quality to it." And although viewers know that Castiel is coming back and their mother is alive (albeit trapped in an alternate Hell world with Lucifer himself), Sam and Dean don't.

"It influences particularly Dean's state of mind," Buckner said. "Both the guys have had to rebound from stuff over and over and just shake it off and go on with the family business, and this overwhelming loss at the start of the season is something that Dean just can't dig his way out of."

Losing essentially every ally they have signals a deep psychological shift in Dean that has only been explored in small doses before, like with his alcoholism and eschewing any kind of real romantic connection. "It's another nail in the coffin about the loss of hope," Eugenie-Ross said. "He has to come up with a reason to have purpose. Every battle he feels like he's swimming backwards. You just feel that there is this growing hopelessness and futility to his existence, that could lead to certain kind of nihilism. For him, it's a personal loss but it's also a cosmic loss of what's the point of being here when you scream at the wilderness and get nothing back."

Dean has always been a deeply flawed character, shooting first and asking questions later, but Sam has always been able to balance his older brother out. Padalecki explained that's because Sam believes he's good with "everything that's happened, all the wrong roads he's taken." However, the divide between how they each handle loss and defeat has never been wider than it is now, and that will "lead to conflict" between the brothers.

"Sam still has this optimism, this hope," Padalecki said. "Whereas Dean, especially in this episode, he's concerned that he is not, everything's going wrong. Sam takes the optimistic route and Dean is nihilistic and pessimistic. Sam sometimes creates his own carrot on the stick to go after. The way he grieves seems to be, 'I'm going to try to focus on this.'"

While "Sam is forced to be put in the position of being the cheerleader because profound grief can create such inertia," according to Buckner, "[Dean] needs a big piece of hope, he just needs some indication, some little light at the end of the tunnel to show that it's not all as dark as he thinks it is. He just has no lifelines left at this point."

That's definitely not a good place to be when tasked with the responsibility of raising Lucifer's all-powerful son.

Supernatural: Misha Collins previews Castiel's 'deal with the devil' from EW

So far, we know that Supernatural fans will first see Castiel in episode 3. And we know that he’ll be reunited with the Winchesters (and Jack) by episode 6. But that won’t be the only reunion awaiting Castiel in season 13.

“There’s some stuff where he’s interacting with Lucifer quite a bit,” co-showrunner Robert Singer tells EW. Whether that means Castiel is in the apocalypse world or something else altogether, the angel is going to come face-to-face with the man who (most recently) killed him. “When we find Cas and Lucifer together, he says, ‘I’m a little on edge because the last time we were together you killed me,'” Collins teases.

But once the two get past their differences — to put it lightly — the interaction will serve a crucial purpose in terms of story. In this case, it’s what Collins says is “literally a deal with the devil.” According to Collins, the two are going to work together toward a common goal. “It’s Jack-related stuff,” Collins adds.

Supernatural bosses are hoping for another Bobby appearance in season 13 from EW

Supernatural‘s season 12 finale introduced the apocalypse world, a place where Sam and Dean were never born and heaven and hell are locked in an eternal war. More importantly, it’s a place where different versions of past characters can show up. Proof? The season 12 finale brought back Bobby Singer to be the one who explained the apocalypse world to Sam and Dean. No, it wasn’t their Bobby, but it was Bobby nonetheless.

Since then, Supernatural showrunners have said some “long-dead characters” would return in season 13, and we know that Kevin Tran is on that list. But what about Bobby? Was the season 12 appearance the last we’ll see of him? Doubtful. “Jim [Beaver] is a go-to character,” co-showrunner Robert Singer says. “If we can get Jim back, we always love to have him.”

Elaborating a bit further, co-showrunner Andrew Dabb says, “Moving into the middle [and] the back-half of the season, we plan to do a lot more exploring of the apocalypse world: What it looks like, what it is, how angels live there, how demons live there, how people live there, [and] hopefully another check-in with Bobby Singer down the road, maybe some other people as well.” That being said, Dabb cautions, “Ultimately, this is not an apocalypse world show. We’re not moving away from the bunker and the Impala.”

And why not? “The roads there are bad so we can’t bring the car, so right there we can’t go,” Dabb adds with a laugh.

SUPERNATURAL Teasers: The Debate Over Jack in “The Rising Son” from TheTVAddict

http://www.thewinchesterfamilybusiness.com/images/SeasonThirteen/13-02-TheRisingSon/11.jpg

The second episode of SUPERNATURAL this season introduces us to a new Prince of Hell, brings back the archangel Michael and gets into a deeper exploration of Jack’s nature. After watching this week’s episode, “The Rising Son”, we have some teasers to share with you.

The Demons Are Directionless. With Crowley dead and Lucifer gone, Asmodeus is stepping up to rule Hell and there are changes to be made. The bureaucracy of the Crowley era is gone and fire and brimstone will rule the day again, at least until Lucifer and his son arrive to take over the throne. But with Lucifer gone, Asmodeus wants the boy found and trained by him and he’ll stop at nothing to achieve this. We’ll also learn a new piece of Hell’s mythology thanks to this Prince of Hell.

Taking Care of the Problem. Dean is convinced that he and Sam are just waiting for Jack to go evil. Sam, meanwhile, is convinced Jack is the key to getting Mary back, but Dean still believes their mother is gone for good. While heading home to the bunker, the trio stop at a motel room for the night and Jack continues to be amazed at the world around him and gets a crash course in biblical mythology, as well as his family tree. The brothers take the downtime as an opportunity to test Jack’s abilities, but Jack seems genuinely oblivious to his powers (which leads to a few amusing scenes).

The Mighty Donatello. Donatello, the prophet last seen in season 1 of SUPERNATURAL, is back and how he’s still walking around after his run-in with Amara is quickly explained. He’s been drawn to Jack via the wave of power unleashed at his birth and he also has an important pronouncement about the boy, although the question of Jack’s true nature is still up for debate.

Understanding Jack. Sam is used to feeling like an outsider and having people be frightened of his abilities, so he’s easily able to bond with Jack and show him sympathy. This leads to a nice scene between the pair and more proof that Sam really understands Dean and his behavior.

The Odd Couple. Mary is resigned to her inevitable death at Lucifer’s hands in the alternative universe but, as he rightly points out, he’s far more intelligent and less evil than most people give him credit for. Instead, he wants to use Mary as leverage to get Jack back from the Winchesters. But Mary, understandably, isn’t in the mood to cooperate with the devil. Still, it seems a bit obvious that they might actually need one another to survive this world.

Enter Michael. The archangel Michael bested his brother Lucifer and won the apocalypse in this other universe and when he makes an appearance he’s very surprised to see a new version of Lucifer appear there. And Michael’s appearance does open the door to an interesting dynamic between the archangel brothers that we’ve rarely seen on the show.

From Entertainment Weekly Supernatural: Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki say the boys aren't going 'full-mope'

But that won’t stop them from working other cases in the meantime. In fact, Dean is going to be throwing himself into the job now more than ever. “He’s essentially grieving by burying himself in work,” Jensen Ackles says. But don’t expect him to be enthusiastic about it. “He’s still going to fight the fight, but there’s less passion there because of the loss that he’s dealing with,” Ackles continues.

While Sam continues to look for ways to potentially save mom or maybe get Castiel back, Dean is focusing on the task at hand. His attitude, as Ackles puts it, is, “I’m not going to think about what I’ve lost. In turn, I’m just going to focus on what I can fix.” That leads Dean down what Ackles calls a “hopeless road.”

However, don’t expect the show to get too caught up in the darkness of it all. “The boys certainly aren’t mopey,” Padalecki says. Ackles adds, “That’s not interesting to me. What’s more interesting is the person who looks like everything’s fine when you are fully aware that everything is not fine.”

‘Supernatural’ Season 13’s Unlikely Alliances and Lucifer as a ‘Fish Out of Water’ from Variety

The CW’s long-running demon hunting drama “Supernatural” first introduced Lucifer in its fifth season, which culminated with the fallen angel entering Sam Winchester’s (Jared Padalecki) vessel, beating his brother Dean (Jensen Ackles) bloody, and jumping back into the pit to return to Hell. But as the years went on, Hell proved not to be strong enough to contain Lucifer and now, in the show’s 13th season, he is back in his most common vessel (Mark Pellegrino) more permanently as a series regular.

“Whatever permanent means in the ‘Supernatural’ realm, it was a pleasant surprise,” Pellegrino tells Variety. “I have always been a part of the ‘Supernatural’ family but more like the red-headed stepchild, so I feel a little more of a fraternal member now.”

Season 13 sees Lucifer trapped with Mary (Samantha Smith) in the alternate, post-apocalyptic world. It is a place in which Sam and Dean were never born and therefore were never able to save the world, but as a contrast to the “real” world, it is a world in which Lucifer was defeated – killed – by his brother, Michael (Christian Keyes). Therefore, even though he has all of his powers in that world, he is a bit of a “fish out of water” there.

“For the first time, he finds himself a little in over his head,” Pellegrino says. “He’s introduced to a narrative that doesn’t work for him, and the rebellious guy that he is, he finds himself fighting that narrative, and that becomes as much an element as anything else in the story.”

Here, Pellegrino talks with Variety about the unlikely alliance that will be Lucifer and Mary this season, a new brother dynamic with Michael, and siring one of the most powerful beings in the world of “Supernatural.”

What is the motivation behind Lucifer teaming up with Mary to figure out the alternate world this season? Does he need her more than she needs him over there?

He wants to use her as a bargaining chip. As far as Lucifer is concerned, the boys has something he wants, he has something they want, and a fair exchange can be made and all parties satisfied. So he certainly wants to keep her for an exchange with Jack [Alexander Calvert].

It doesn’t seem like she would trust that he’d keep her alive. How do they relate to each other in this strange new world?

I think she doesn’t trust Lucifer, in the way that Dean would never trust Lucifer. He’s an entity of a particular kind, which is a great throughline in a number of episode – this nature/nurture argument that occurs between Dean and Sam. I think she would fall on the nature argument, and so I don’t think she would ever fully trust him. She will probably try to use him for her survival as well, and you will see, at least in one episode, that actually comes to pass. He protects her against a gang of angels that come after Lucifer and she would have been part of the fall-out. They’re sort of an odd couple, strange bedfellows. They’re temporarily allied under strange circumstances, until things can get back to normal again.

You mentioned he wants to exchange Mary for Jack, which seems to imply he believes the rift can be re-opened. What steps is he taking to make sure that happens?

He’s just on the hunt, on the search. I don’t even think he knows what the nature of the rift is or why it was caused. He’s just trying to find it.

Is he confident that if and when it opens Jack will come to him with open arms?

I want to say he has a sort of romantic view – maybe I’m overstepping but a romantic view – of his relationship with a son. The idea of connecting with a son and being involved in nurturing a son, there is that fatherly sense of pride and desire to connect there. There is a stake in wanting to influence his son’s development, like any good father, and I think it’s genuine. I don’t think when he expresses his pride for his son and his curiosity about his son that it’s empty or utilitarian, I think he really does want to connect.

Is there any concern that Jack being more powerful than him is a threat to him?

So far it’s pride. It’s pride in the power and pride in what he helped to create. He knows a nephilim’s powers are almost equal to God, and that’s enticing to him. That’s fascinating. He wants to be involved in developing them.

In this world, Lucifer should no longer exist, so does he find himself constantly having to prove he is who he says he is?

It does seem to be a sort of thread that’s going through the stories, yeah. And it becomes a kind of annoying thing for him.

Michael killed Lucifer once in this world, and he probably believes there is only one of everyone in the world, so what is the dynamic like when those two meet?

It’s a tough one. I consider all of the dynamics between the big angels to be brother dynamics, and I think the same thing happens here, but Michael is definitely a different Michael in the alternate universe, and that includes his powers. This is where Lucifer has to confront the reality of not being top dog, and I think Lucifer handles it with his typical irreverence and disregard, at least outwardly, for any authority over him.

This Michael and Lucifer don’t share the story or the history, but in a way they are still brothers, so is there a sense of wanting to get to know each other at all from either of them?

I think you’re going to find the commonality will be in the strange bedfellows. Necessity becomes the element that brings some folks into alliances they never thought would happen in a million years.

'Supernatural': Will Lucifer Make a Deal With the Winchesters to Save Jack?

What’s keeping Lucifer from killing Mama Winchester?
Her sons have something he needs—his son Jack (Alexander Calvert). I have something they need—Mary—and I think that we can make a deal with each other.

Does that mean Lucifer will have to protect Mary, which is against your nature.
He will to great effect. I hope she’s grateful for that that, but I doubt she will be.

Speaking of nature and nurture and gratitude, Sam and Dean—against his natural instincts—are protecting Jack from demons and angels? Will Lucifer be grateful to them?
Well, the story is going to take an interesting turn. There’s a character that appears in the second episode that changes everything. His power and his ambition will throw a kink in everybody’s plans. He could change the relationship dynamics of the entire show!

Supernatural's Mark Pellegrino Teases Lucifer and Mary's 'Old Married Couple' Vibe, 'Contention' With New Michael

“This is horrible. The stepparents are winning, and it’s not fun,” star Mark Pellegrino tells TVLine with a laugh. “I think Lucifer is going to try to remedy this situation as soon as possible.”

But couldn’t you also say that the Winchesters are keeping his child safe while he’s MIA? “This is true,” Pellegrino concedes. “These are all of the paradoxes that Lucifer is faced with in the coming episodes.”

Supernatural: Mark Pellegrino says Lucifer is 'out of his league' in apocalypse world

Lucifer is someone who wanted the apocalypse, but now that he’s in apocalypse world and sees the aftermath of it all, does it affect his viewpoint?

I honestly think that does have a character-altering effect on him. It is one of those epiphany moments, especially when he comes into contact with the architect of that world, who’s Michael. Lucifer has a certain change of heart and character that I think pushes him in a different direction than we’ve seen ever.

What could Alexander Calvert’s promotion mean for ‘Supernatural’?

For starters, even before the fall TV season began, the mere notion of this promotion on a show with a history like Supernatural’s allowed the dedicated viewer to extrapolate a fair amount about how significant this character will be. Apart from an oddity back in in season 3 — introducing Lauren Cohan’s Bela and Katie Cassidy’s Ruby as regulars and promptly killing them, a backlash-heavy structural choice made a decade ago, during the show’s growing period — the rank of Supernatural series regular has been limited to the four men who undeniably dictated the story as its key point-of-view players: naturally, Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles as Sam and Dean Winchester, plus Misha Collins as Castiel and Mark Sheppard as Crowley.

Ackles and Padalecki remain the only truly permanent factor of Supernatural — they’ve both appeared in every single episode, and the show will undoubtedly end the day one of them isn’t able to — and Collins’ promotion came in season 5, after an entire year’s worth of character establishment. Even this wasn’t a done deal – in season 7, he was downgraded to “special guest star” and killed off. His death was, according to many reports, initially intended as permanent, but Castiel was written back in, had his series regular status reinstated by season 9, and has been pulled even more tightly into the Winchester clan ever since.

Any news on returning characters on this season of Supernatural? — Laura
Well, I’m assuming you heard the Kevin news, but he won’t be the only familiar face. And yet, this next one might not be in the apocalypse world. When talking about season 13’s standalone episodes, co-showrunner Robert Singer reveals that, “You’re going to see the return of Rowena in one of the standalones.” No word yet on what world she’s in or whether it’s even in present day, but just know that you haven’t seen the last of the witch that Lucifer claims he killed.

From TVLine

Question: Is there anything for Sam fans to be excited for on Supernatural this season? —Maria
Ausiello: EP Brad Buckner says Sam has “some really charming scenes” with Lucifer’s son Jack, who is struggling to gain “full control” of his powers. “Right now, [Jack] is at the mercy of impulse. He senses something or feels something and, wham, a power that he didn’t even know he had emerges. … He’s actually more powerful than Lucifer, and all that stuff is bottled up. He just doesn’t know how to access it on a conscious level.” Enter Sam, who Buckner says is “trying to deal with this kid as a kind of son and give him lessons and slowly give him little exercises to try to control this stuff.”

Supernatural Preview: Will Dean and Lucifer's Son Find Common Ground? from TVLine

https://pmctvline2.files.wordpress.com/2017/09/supernatural-spoilers.jpg

Supernatural‘s Dean may have more in common with Lucifer’s offspring Jack than the hunter would like to admit, and we’re not talking about both fellas’ penchant for devouring their food.

Although the elder Winchester would like nothing more than to wipe Satan’s spawn off the face of Earth, the two share “the commonality of loss,” notes new series regular Alexander Calvert, who plays Jack. After all, Dean recently lost his mom Mary and his friend Castiel, while Jack never even had the chance to get to know his chosen father Cas before he died. “That’s a big similarity that both Jack and Dean have,” so it’s not just Sam — who once battled his own dark urges — with whom Jack shares some traits, Calvert says.

Supernatural Spoilers“There’s some nice moments coming up where I can see myself in Sam, and then there’s also moments where I see myself in Dean,” the actor shares.

Below, Calvert also previews Jack’s “otherworldly, profound connection” with Castiel, and reveals how stars Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki welcomed him into the show’s ensemble.

TVLINE | You’re coming into the show in Season 13, when the cast has pretty much established their dynamics. I hear Jared and Jensen have been giving you a good ribbing. Did that help you feel like you fit in?
They have a really well-oiled machine. The cast and crew, obviously, are great to work with. The machine works really well. I just want to be effective in that. That being said, I’ve been, definitely, the object of some pranks, and I’ve ruined a couple takes laughing.

TVLINE | Any particularly memorable pranks stand out for you?
If it’s during my coverage, Jared will do anything in his power to try and make me crack up, and he succeeds a lot of the time. I’m like, “The editors are amazing.”

TVLINE | I think they’re used to it, judging by the gag reels from the past 12 seasons.

I did watch the gag reels. I’m like, “OK, I’ll be in good company.” So that’s reassuring.

TVLINE | In the last episode, Dean very bluntly told Jack, “If I’m right, and it comes to killing you, I’ll be the one to do it.” How does Jack handle that, going forward?
I think he’s aware of Dean’s volatility and commitment. Both [of] the Winchesters have seen so much that Dean’s definitely a threat in Jack’s life. But at the same time, Sam and Dean are both his parental figures, so there aren’t many places for him to go. He’s striking a balance between Sam and Dean, Sam being the more compassionate one, and Dean definitely being way more cutthroat.

TVLINE | Jack is quite powerful, but is there a part of him that’s afraid of Dean?
Absolutely. Yeah, for sure. Again, Dean’s seen a lot. With the loss of his mom, the loss of Castiel, he’s really at the end of his rope, I feel like. So as much as Jack has these powers, he’s still a little kid, and having someone [around] like that is quite scary.

TVLINE | As Jack finds out more information about Lucifer, what are his feelings on him?

It’s tough to say, because there’s a recognition that he’s capable of evil and hurting people, which is a kind of a terrible realization. [Laughs] So there’s that. But there’s also hope on the other side of it with his other parental figures in his life, with Sam and Dean, [and] hope for Castiel as well.

TVLINE | Does Jack have any sort of psychic bond or connection to Lucifer? Is that one of his abilities?
Anything’s possible. Not at this point, that I know of. What I do know is that he and Castiel do have an otherworldly, profound connection. Their connection, I think, will transcend worlds, and what’s really cool about this season is the introduction of other worlds.

‘Supernatural’s’ Alexander Calvert on Relating to the Winchesters and Parallels Between Castiel and Jack from VARIETY

https://pmcvariety.files.wordpress.com/2017/10/sn1301b_0384b.jpg

Alexander Calvert is new to the world of “Supernatural,” but his character was cemented as integral to the show’s overall mythology from the minute he appeared.

The son of Lucifer (Mark Pellegrino) is half-human and half-angel and has more powers than his father. But while producers of “Supernatural” have pointed out that deep down Jack also carries an ancient wisdom from his heritage, Calvert is focused on portraying the “newborn” nature to the nephilim who is a grown man in stature but a baby when it comes to the awareness of the world. “He’s got a fun optimism,” Calvert says.

In his first episode, Calvert was focused on “getting to enjoy all of the new things he got to experience from a nougat chocolate bar to observing everything for the first time [and] to just notice where the light is.”

Jack claimed Castiel (Misha Collins) as his father, despite being sired by Lucifer, and Calvert can’t deny there have been some parallels in how Jack explores the new world around him to how Castiel did when he first stepped foot on earth in the fourth season of “Supernatural.” “I’m just trying to be truthful about what I think this could be like,” he says of Jack’s exploration.

Jared Padalecki on ‘Supernatural’ Season 13: Sam Wants Redemption for Jack
Without Castiel to guide him, Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) have stepped in. Although Sam is the one actively trying to help Jack, Calvert shares that he thinks his character feels a connection to both brothers equally.

“What’s interesting to me is each episode is looking to who I relate with more. In some episodes I really relate to [Sam] and in others I really relate to Dean,” he says. “I kind of imitate Dean in how he eats and how he drinks a beer, and there’s these little moments where you kind of see yourself in both parents. Jack’s trying to figure himself out while he’s getting to know the only two real figures in his life.”

The Winchesters will continue to be Jack’s main guide in the story, and though they are not perfect, Calvert says Jack is not looking for an alternative at this point. “He has a lot of empathy for Sam and he really relates to Dean as well because he sees how the loss of Dean’s mom has really affected Dean. Sam is pushing forward and hoping for the best, but Dean is really reeling in these few episodes,” Calvert says.

Jack will, however, start to do his own research into who he is to understand why he can do the things he can do (like heal immediately from tattoos and stab wounds alike). “At this point I’m still focused on the very minutiae of getting to know myself,” Calvert says. “Jack is very curious about his own lineage and the world itself. He’s definitely searching on his own as well as going with Dean and Sam.”

Because there are dangerous beings hunting him, Jack will often be taken along on Sam and Dean’s hunts. The third episode, “Patience,” for example, will see Jack having to “test himself and learn his capabilities” quickly in order to help out when the Winchesters are called to help their family friend Missouri (guest star Loretta Devine) protect her granddaughter (guest star Clark Backo) from a wraith (guest star Jon Cor) who is targeting psychics.

But Calvert says it is a slow process for the “big ball of energy” that is Jack to begin to understand, let alone control the power he has. That means the Winchesters aren’t training him to re-open the rift any time soon, but it also means he isn’t letting the power go to his head.

“I think everybody kind of wants to fit in and searches for someone they can relate to, so I don’t think he’ll just get rid of them. I think he has a real desire and quest to be a part of a family, and they’re it for him,” Calvert says.

Of course, the eventual return of Castiel will throw a curveball into that dynamic. “What would it be like to meet the father you never knew? It would be a pretty incredible moment for Jack,” Calvert says, noting Jack hopes Castiel is someone to whom he will be able to relate even more. “It would help his search to figure out who and what he is.”

Jeff Mattson sent a behind-the-scenes picture to The Winchester Family Business and he said we could use it in our discussion pages. The picture was taken when they were shooting episode 7 or 8. He captioned it, “Cat Guarding the Portal to Heaven”. Here is the background information.

They did not find out the name of the cat that was guarding the portal to heaven in Ladner Havour Park. Beside the children's play ground shooting location stood a lone house. (maybe for the custodians of the park). They think the cat is theirs. Jeff usually does crew work and occasionally back ground work and he took the picture on a Friday, maybe Oct. 20. The crew camp was in the park like usually when they film in that neighborhood. They have a contract with the park but they were not filming at the park that day. They just had lunch there. Jeff wrote in the end: "So unfortunately there are no spoilers to be had. Just a cat that guard's the portal to heaven."

--

From Jeff:

Hi Jeff here.

everybody. Just found this very friendly kitty hanging out at the portal to heaven one day when we were filming. Though he may have just liked us cause we had heat lamps. You can see him laying at the foot of a heat lamp there in the photo. I'm pretty sure he belongs to the park's custodians. Their house is directly beside the children's play ground. He was far too friendly and well behaved and well taken care of to be a stray. Its not all that uncommon to set up base camp in someone's lawn and have their cat join us for lunch. And production typically instructs us not to touch the cats, which i'm terrible at following. I really just thought this cat was unique because he lives at the portal to heaven.

Base camp was at the park that day, we weren't actually filming the portal, just filming in Ladner that day. Sorry the story isn't more interesting, and i promise next time we are filming in the park, or even if base camp is just in the park i will endevour to learn the cat's name. I did get to thinking... a story about a cat guarding heaven certainly would be cute don't you think?

Spoiler Room: Scoop on Grey's Anatomy, Blacklist, Supergirl and more from EW

Anything on the Supernatural spin-off? — Alex
We know Wayward Sisters is going to be set in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, which shouldn’t come as a surprise seeing as how that’s where Jody Mills lives with Alex (and Claire when she’s home), and where Jody has a job. But that’s not the only reason the spin-off will be localized to that town. “They showed us a really great reason as to why that is happening,” star Kim Rhodes says of the location. “It doesn’t just happen to be in Sioux Falls. There’s definitely a reason.” And what do you want to bet it’s a supernatural reason?

Supernatural Set 2017 - Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles & Alexander Calvert

SUPERNATURAL: Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles & Alexander Calvert on the Upcoming Reunion and the Cowboy Episode from The TV Addict

http://www.thetvaddict.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/spn-smiling.jpeg

Castiel reunited with the Winchester brothers on this week’s SUPERNATURAL and the angel will be delving into a case with Sam and Dean in the next episode. He’ll also get a chance to meet Jack for the first time since his birth. Once that meeting happens, the group will head to Texas to investigate a case and fulfill Dean’s obsession with everything cowboy related.

During a visit to the set of SUPERNATURAL in Vancouver, we spoke to Jared Padalecki (Sam Winchester), Jensen Ackles (Dean Winchester) and Alex Calvert (Jack) about the reunion with Cas and what’s to come in the next episode.

How Important Are the Winchesters? Before moving on to the next episode, we noticed that Billie brought Dean back from the dead this week because, according to her, Sam and Dean are “important”. We’ve always known that the Winchesters are crucial to the fate of the universe, but does Billie know something now that we don’t? Jared and Jensen aren’t yet sure. “We haven’t really found out why just yet,” Jared explained. “We know we’re important for some reason, but true to SUPERNATURAL form I think it will be a surprise to Sam and Dean and Jared and Jensen. I think the brothers have always felt like they have a higher cause and a greater calling, so I think they’re looking forward to figuring out exactly what it means.”

Loss of Faith. The meeting with Billie also revealed that Dean feels a bit loss after the recent deaths of his mother and friend. Cas’ return, however, will be considered a bit of a “win”, according to Jensen. “At the end of last season and the beginning of this season we do see that Dean is just of like given up, so to speak. So the return of Cas has ignited that fire again. He’s got some hope and motivation to dig a little deeper and see what we can figure out. Because if he was written off and Mom was written off, maybe there’s a few other people that shouldn’t have been written off. And we figure that out as the series continues to move on.”

Skeptical Sam. While Dean is just happy to have his buddy back and doesn’t seem to question the reason beyond Cas’ return going forward, Sam is a bit more skeptical, according to Jared. “I think Sam is really looking to find out what happened and how did it happened. Also, not just because of Sam’s intellectual curiosity, but Sam still wants mom back and, heck, if we can start calling out who we want back, I’m sure there are a lot of people Sam wouldn’t mind to bring back. So I think Dean is so relieved to have that win he’s looking for, and to have our buddy back. Sam’s like ‘OK, it is great, I agree, but, you know, to quote Dean — the other shoe is probably going to drop. So what else can this person do?'”

Jack and Castiel Meet. Castiel spent the later part of season 12 protecting Jack before his birth because he believed that the boy could help the world. Jack “adopted” Castiel as his surrogate father and was devastated when he learned that Cas was gone at the beginning of season 13. Now the two of them will finally come face-to-face. We’ll see that Jack and Cas are “close because they think it’s like meeting the only other alien,” Alexander said. “You’re an alien on the Earth and you thought you were alone, but then suddenly there’s someone who’s actually like you. I feel like they have that unique bond.” This moment will mean “everything to [Jack]. I don’t want to say too much cause I think it’s all kind of there when we see it, but I mean, a huge moment for Jack.”

Dean’s Love of Westerns. We saw that Dean is obsessed with Westerns all the way back in the season 6 episode of “Frontierland”, but he’ll get a chance to revisit that in the upcoming episode “Tombstone”. “I don’t think it’s any shock that I’ve always been kind of a fan of the iconic symbol of a cowboy and everything that comes along with that,” Jensen said. “A fan of western movies and everything. So when I read that Dean gets all excited about it and decides to play the part up, so to speak, I of course got excited as well. I think there’s a nice slow-mo montage of some snakeskin boots and a hat and the whole bit. But yeah, instead of playing FBI agents we get to play Texas Rangers, which is kind of fun.” Alexander said that the crew was so into this episode that “everyone in the crew dressed up as cowboys for one of the days.”

Watch a portion of our interview with Jared, Jensen and Alexander below (more to come!).

Ask Ausiello: Spoilers on Good Doctor, Roseanne, Chicago Fire, Supernatural, Walking Dead, The Flash and More from TVLine!

Question: Any scoop/spoilers regarding Jack Kline on Supernatural? Alexander Calvert is doing a smashing job in the role. —Karen C

Ausiello: Although Jack is focusing on himself after this week’s episode, he hasn’t forgotten about his pals the Winchesters and their quest to free Mary from the apocalypse world. “You’re definitely going to see Jack try [to open up the portal],” Calvert shares. “He knows, ultimately, that the thing that’s driving Sam and Dean is their mother, and the way that Jack can be of service to them is to open that up and help Sam and Dean complete their journey.”

‘Supernatural’ Casts Danneel Ackles in Recurring Role (EXCLUSIVE) from Variety

https://pmcvariety.files.wordpress.com/2017/12/fullsizerender1.jpg

Danneel Ackles is set to guest star in “Supernatural,” Variety has learned exclusively.

Ackles is set to recur as “Sister Jo” in the later part of the 13th season of the CW’s hit demon hunting drama. Sister Jo is described as “a well-known faith healer whose good works attract the attention of someone very, very bad: Lucifer (Mark Pellegrino).” The question she will have to face is whether Lucifer will kill her — or if he has bigger plans for her.

Her first appearance will be in episode 13, “Devil’s Bargain.”

Ackles joins a list of guest stars for this record season that include Christian Keyes, Jeffrey Vincent Parise, Keith Szarabajka, Yadira Guevara-Prip and Clark Backo, as well as the returns of David Haydn-Jones, Osric Chau, Lorette Devine, Briana Buckmaster, Kathryn Newton, Katherine Ramdeen and Kim Rhodes.

Ackles, who is married to “Supernatural” star Jensen Ackles is best known for starring in the cult classic “Harold & Kumar” film franchise, in addition to her role as Rachel Gatina on the long-running WB series “One Tree Hill.”

She previously appeared with her husband in the 2007 independent film “Ten Inch Hero,” and in 2014 she worked with “Supernatural” star Misha Collins in his digital short “TSA America: Suspicious Bulges.”

Ackles is repped by The Gersh Agency and Untitled Entertainment.
