Cain wasn't dead when "About a Boy" happened and he had the mark also. Of course when he died I think the mark vanished as it needs the "vessel" alive. Dean was the only bearer then of the lock.

i thought you were going to say the error was in regards to the darkness.... in s7, death told the boys and cas that before God created angels he created leviathans....and he locked them away in purgatory, that he created, so not as to eat the petri dish....

now death says that angels battled the darkness...it was the great battle before God created earth...

Lucifer must still have the Mark too, if it can be passed in parts like distributing, what?

Yep, from Meet the New Boss (7.01):

Death: There are things much older than souls in Purgatory, and you gulped those in too... Long before God created angel or man he made the first beasts: the Leviathans... I personally found them entertaining, but He was concerned they'd chomp the entire Petri dish. So He locked them away. Why do you think He created Purgatory? To keep those clever, poisonous things out.


However, that doesn't really rule them out. He created Levi's and Purgatory before Angels, but that doesn't mean they were made here. That could have been done elsewhere, then he created Angels, then they came here and fought of The Darkness.

This is what I thought - so to me they have really buggered this story line.


1 Lucifer the original mark carrier - not dead in hell - should still have the mark because he only transferred it to Cain
2 Cain second person to have the marked carried it for centuries transferred it to Dean - Cain not dead - still carried the mark
3 That makes 3 people carrying the mark ??!! Up until the Executioners Song. Dean kills Cain mark gone
4 Lucifer still alive in hell but now after Cain's death 2 people carrying the mark so Dean should be able to remove the Mark without any consequences because Lucifer still has the mark --- it was only transfer ---- not taken away like with Dean
5 Executioners Song if you listen to Cain -- how he killed Abel , Abel went to heaven. Cain became a Knight of Hell ---different to Death's interpretation
6. This Darkness should have never come about - Lucifer would still have the mark -- They really stuffed this
7. Lucifer never had a mark on his arm during any shot of Him in S4 - S5 - S6 Sam never had the mark when possessed by Lucifer

I loved the ending of S10 will watch S11 - But come on writers we ain't Dumb You really stuffed canon on this one

Or Lucifer just gave the whole mark away because he was pissed at god. Cain copied the mark that Dean could use the blade. Sorry, it can be seen at both ways.

So God entrusted Lucifer with this precious key... the key that holds back THE DARKNESS!!!! or the greatest evil ever known and then DOESTN'T take it back again to give to someone more trustworthy when Lucifer is banished to hell as punishment for not bowing down to man? What, God just FORGOT that the person he was condemning still carried around the most powerful key to the biggest lock in creation? Give me a break! Presumably the Mark was transferable to another person/angel/whomever in the first place so that it could always be taken care of by the most trustworthy of God's allies. So why wasn't Lucifer stripped of the key when he fell? And Lucifer can inexplicably either give the mark away entirely or just share it? Why couldn't Cain do the same? So, did Lucifer GIVE the mark to Cain in it's entirety or just share it? If Lucifer still has the mark then why was THE DARKNESS!!!! released? The whole idea is so riddled with holes that I can't even begin to take it seriously. How much thought did Carver give this idea? Did he trouble shoot it with anyone to see if it holds up to reasonable logic? We've punched so many credibility holes in this idea in a matter of hours, so my guess is NO he didn't even begin to think this through.

Which is why Carver has to go. Everything screams short-term, and not just season by season, but episode by episode.

I can handle not so good writers. With a competent and focused show-runner, bad writing can be amended. Those writers might not last long if their work has to be continually re-worked, but it lets you know the show-runner is on the ball.

I also don't want someone to get promoted up. Writer does not = show-runner. I want them to hunt down someone outside the CW circle with show-running experience on a quality show.
