All right, it's time for a visual review of "You Can't Handle the Truth."  I thought this was a pretty straightforward episode, directing-wise, which makes sense for an episode that focused on people telling the truth!  That's not to say there wasn't a lot of great stuff to look at, more that there wasn't a lot of trickery or fancy pants stuff.  The director for the episode is Jan Eliasberg.

I like how the leaves and tree branches are making this sort of canopy over the shot.  It's a leaf roof!  But it's neat.  It adds more depth or something.  Maybe I just really have a fondness for trees.

I know I've talked about it before, but the production team really puts a lot of effort into their props.  This article sounds like a real news piece, if you read it.  And one of the news tidbits on the left-hand side says "Security: Phone companies cut off FBI wiretaps for unpaid bills."  Ha ha ha ha!  The Fed isn't paying their phone bills!  That is so amusing.  One thing you won't find on there, though?  The date.  I'm trying to think of the last time we had a definitive timeline for an episode, and I can't think of one off the top of my head.

This is a double clue here because not only does it have the Harry's House of Horns sticker on there, but lo, it's a cat calendar!  Foreshadowing, anyone?  This is one of those details that when you see it the first time, it's just like, "oh, yeah, she has a cat calendar because cats are cute."  But then after you see the whole episode, it takes on a whole new meaning.

Okay, confession time.  I was a band geek in high school, which probably isn't much of a surprise to anyone, right?  But I played soccer, too, so I was a jock/band geek.  At any rate, I played the tuba mostly but also played the baritone one year, so watching Dean question Harry with a baritone hanging behind him?  One of the best things ever!  Supernatural+low brass instruments = epic win.

Castiel pouring Dean a drink was so unexpected for me.  It was so casual, and especially now that Cass is all super angel, casual is the last thing I thought we'd see from him.  It was kind of nice, except that Dean is drinking way too much and doesn't need to be encouraged.  But it also reminded me of the God and Adam part of the Sistine Chapel where God is reaching for Adam and not the other way around.  The heavenly beings reach out to humanity more than humanity reaches for them.  I'm sure that is completely unintentional and that I'm overthinking this, but it still reminds me of that image, especially if you cut off the top part of this shot and just look at it from their shoulders down.

This is a really cool shot from inside the morgue tray, no pun intended.  It's a corpse-eye view of the world.

I also really, really like this shot through the window.  This is a bit noir here, with the contrast lighting and the shadow falling on Dean's face.  Gorgeous.

More cats!  They are all over the place in this episode, aren't they?

Vicky, I noticed the current calendar, too! That would of put the season 5 finale in the early fall of 2009...weird.

Great visual review!

There is one more visual I wished you had included- when Sam and Dean get knocked out by Veritas and fall on the ground under the skinned body, they are lying in perfect symetry, facing each other with a puddle of blood between their faces, dripping from the suspended body.
