Our own Jared Padalecki has launched a campaign for depression awareness. His campaign is being noticed all over the Internet

From the site SiFied
Jared... is selling a variety of t-shirts and sweatshirts, each with the slogan 'Always Keep Fighting' in a bid to raise money and awareness about depression, addiction, self-injury, mental illness and suicidal thoughts

The CW affiliates are helping promote this campaign. Jared explains what prompted this campaign here in an article from the CW affiliate in Philadelphia
“On New Years Eve, my dear friend lost his battle with depression. This, unfortunately, wasn’t the first time i lost a personal friend to suicide, and it hurt me deeply …”

The affilate from Detroit posted
Underscoring the message Padalecki writes, “There is no shame in needing support. I hope this campaign will help you be vocal about your own struggles, or vocal in your support of those who might need a helping hand. Most of all, when life seems to want to beat you down, I hope you Always Keep Fighting.”
Proceeds from sales will go to “To Write Love On Her Arms” (TWLOHA), a non-profit which aims to help those struggling with addiction, depression, self-injury and thoughts of suicide.

The campaign will last until March 17 and you can visit it here.

From Liberty Voice
This is the first time that Padalecki has launched a shirt campaign for a cause, and in this case it is one that the actor says he holds close to his heart. The actor’s original goal was to sell 1,000 shirts, but by late Sunday night there had been just short of 20,000 shirts sold. Via video messages posted to Facebook, Padalecki has kept his followers informed of how the campaign is doing, and has even called two individuals who purchased shirts to talk to them and thank them for the support.

From GCE (Geekchicelite)
There has been a lot of celebrity activism lately, from Chris Pratt and Chris Evan raising money for Christopher’s Haven and Seattle Children’s Hospital to Arrow star Stephen Amell and his F*ck Cancer campaign that has sold over 60,000 tee shirts to date. Now, Supernatural star Jared Padalecki, who plays Sam Winchester on the hit television show, is rallying for thr fight against the stigma of mental illness.

Padalecki started a t-shirt campaign similar to Stphen Amell’s with the sale goal of 1000 units and they have been selling fast. The slogan, “Always Keep Fighting” is emblazoned on the t-shirts along with a photo of Padalecki. The shirts launched for sale in support of To Write Love on Her Arms on March 3 and already the campaign has sold over 21,000 units with 7 days left to go of the promotion.

Even People Magazine has talked to Jared about his cause.

In an exclusive chat with PEOPLE, Padalecki revealed why the campaign is so important to him as well as what's coming up for his character on Supernatural, how he and costar Jensen Ackles mess with each other on set and whether you can expect to see him take part in a Gilmore Girls reunion.

NOTE The People Magazine article has some mild spoilers.

What a great cause. Jared's facebook promotions of his campaign are just too sweet. What a lovely man. I have too many friends that are suffering from depression and self harm (cutting). I hope Jared's campaign can help bring some help and understanding to those that are suffering.

Same day Jensen got one million in twitter also Jared joined FB. This is a good cause that I know some people in my life has also trouble with.
Luckily none has been lost to it and I hope none will.

When you think these boys can't give us any more of themselves they do. What a wonderful campaign & how tirelessly they work to get it out there.
I love seeing J2 anywhere on the internet - whether its to promote the show or visit us fans or to campaign a great cause. I was wondering though when do they get time to themselves & family ???
# E 2015-03-10 19:20
I think that they try very hard to get home as often as they can, and I am pretty sure that it doesn't feel like enough for either one of them. It's a bit easier for Jensen being based in L.A. as it's closer to Vancouver and a bit harder for Jared as his family is in Austin, TX. That's probably why we see so many tweets about them complaining about their plane trips!
# LEAH 2015-03-10 20:24
I am not positive about this E, but I think Jensen has a place near Jared in Austin now.
# E 2015-03-10 21:08
OMG! Does he? That would be just too cute for words. I really hope that's true.
# cheryl42 2015-03-10 21:10
It is true they live in the same neighborhood. They are practically raising their kids together.
# LEAH 2015-03-10 21:21
I know, right?:)

Hey, E!

Here’s the video of Jensen telling that he moved to Austin:

2014 DallasCon J2 Breakfast Gold Panel ("http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_3Ahqfc2aM&t=1249")

Jensen bought a house that is within a mile away from Jared’s. :)

They also went on vacation together in Aspen around New Years.

OMG…. adorbs. :D:D

I saw video from a Con a few months ago in which the subject came up and Jensen started saying "there's nothing weird about it" and then Jared interrupted to say "but there is a zipline between our houses." They are just too darn cute together.
# LEAH 2015-03-07 20:45
Jared is a wonderful good hearted man. It warms my heart to see him so passionate about this cause. I salute you Jared Padalecki!

I love that these actors who I adore, are just lovely human beings. All of them.

Truly, is there any other show in which the 3 leads (not sure about Sheppard) and other cast and crew members give so much of themselves to the fans and to charitable causes? How did a group of such fantastic people end up on the same show? It makes me love SPN even more- and I already love it quite a lot!
# E 2015-03-08 14:41
This is a truly generous act. Jared is kindness personified. :D
# eilf 2015-03-08 18:27
The videos Jared has posted on Facebook are generally cute but the most recent one is honestly very moving. He's a good guy.
Jared Facebook Link ("http://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=352089008330034&set=vb.277897975749138&type=2&theater")
And yes I believe Mark Sheppard is involved in various causes, one for autism I think?

You're right eilf, that most recent facebook video is wonderful. What a class act he is.
# eilf 2015-03-08 20:06
Heh, of course he updated with a new video as I made that post, so it was confusing, I meant the one about the memorial service, as I assume you already worked out? - I linked to it above now.
Barbara Maake
# Barbara Maake 2015-03-08 20:13
nope I had not worked that out because I didn't see it on his facebook page (but I'm terrible with Facebook). So I used your link and it was truly moving, more so than the one I thought you meant. Thanks for the link eilf
# eilf 2015-03-08 20:20
Yes the one about the phone-calls was sweet too. :)
# E 2015-03-10 19:21
Arg… I can't watch them because my Mac won't' download the latest flash player. Not sure why,,, I've tried everything. :(
# Lilah_Kane 2015-03-11 03:52
I think Mark's recent one where he sold a shirt was for diabetes and Jensen sold a shirt after for charity. Can't remember which one or was it random.

Jensen also helped Jared with this cause and how to use FB. Full circle with those guys. :D

Ruth Connell ?@RuthieConnell "Overhearing @JensenAckles give @jarpad advice about how to best use his new FB account for #AlwaysKeepFigh ting #DadsUsingFB #love #adorable"

Ruth is pretty adorable so I hope Rowena grows on me some more. Fingers crossed.

Just when you think you can't love this guy any more, he goes and does this! :) It's such a great cause and it's very near to my heart, having lost my father to suicide when he was only 50. I also lost a niece who was only 27-years-old. Depression and mental illness are still taboo in our society and we need to talk about it openly so that people know that they can find support, not just from family from also from society at large. Thank you moose! :)

Jared's interview with People Magazine http://www.people.com/article/jared-padalecki-supernatural-always-keep-fighting-gilmore-girls-interview I'm sure someone here will post this or maybe it is already and I can't find it, but until then.

Jared is a beautiful soul (cue in jesse mcartney:D). Just when you think you cant love him more........... .you can. The world is truly a better place because of jared and jensen. It tickles me to no end that they can literally walk over to each others homes....ten years of living together as winchesters .......i imagine them feeling like us and unable to imagine it any other way :D
# eilf 2015-03-12 17:42
Here is an interview ("http://linkis .com/twloha.com /blog/JeMeW") Jared has done with the TWLOHA charity about the charity and why he is involved. Nobody has it easy do they? He has said several times that when you feel things are bad for you, you should do something to help someone else, I think he has achieved that here really well (though hopefully things are not bad for him at the moment).

And I, in the past, have had my own struggles of not [being] so happy with where I am in life, which is strange and I think it goes to show. … Maybe a lot of people don’t know this, but Season 3, we were shooting an episode, and I went back to my trailer to get changed and just kind of broke down.

A doctor came to set and talked to me for about 30 minutes or 45 minutes and said: “Jared, I think you’re clinically depressed. I think I should write you a note and we can shut down production for five days and then we can take it from there.” And it kind of hit me like a sack of bricks. I mean, I was 25 years old. I had my own TV show. I had dogs that I loved and tons of friends and I was getting adoration from fans and I was happy with my work, but I couldn’t figure out what it was; it doesn’t always make sense is my point. It’s not just people who can’t find a job, or can’t fit in in society that struggle with depression sometimes.

Luckily, two of my great friends, Jensen who everybody knows very well, and my friend Kelly who I work with, came to my trailer to check in on me and talked to me for probably an hour or so and then, I was like, “All right guys, I’m going through a tough time right now. I don’t know what it is, but I’m just going to keep my legs moving. I’m going to keep fighting.” They let me go that day. They were like, “Hey buddy, go home. Call your family, and you’re off work. Come back to work tomorrow.”

So I went home, and the next day I showed up for work and just kind of gradually got better, but it’s something that I’ve been passionate about for a while.
That reminds me of a M&G report from this year’s SFCon:

The conversation in Jensen’s meet and greet also touched on depression. A fan asked if there were times that Jensen didn’t like Dean, and he said that last year, Dean was in a very dark place, and it started to get to him. So much so that he called “down south” and said I need to know where the light [at the end of the tunnel] is.

Bob Singer thanked him for calling them and not just keeping it to himself until he had a breakdown on set or something – again that theme of reaching out and telling someone when you’re feeling close to the breaking point.
Fangasm ("fangasmthebook.wordpress.com/2015/01/21/keep-fighting-for-each-other-jensen-and-jared-meet-and-greet-tidbits-from-sfcon/")

It feels kind of wrong that Jared couldn’t take the time for himself, he still had to show up on set the next day. But maybe work helped him.

On a roll today:

Jared interviewed by Stephen Amell ("http://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=820445611374041&set=vb.146921975393078&type=2&theater")

On a side note I am fairly sure Alice would approve of Jared's outfit ;)

I had no idea Jared ever suffered from depression. It's so surprising because he seems like such a happy, upbeat person, but I guess that's his point. Depression is so prevalent, yet people are often ashamed or embarrassed to speak about it so they to hide it instead of seeking help. It's great that he's speaking openly about it, which hopefully will encourage others to seek help.

Jared talks more about his depression + set pictures of Angel heart. The boys look mighty fine:
