promo001

This is it! The mid-season finale! Are we ready?

THEN
Oh my God so Sam was mostly dead so Dean did a deal with a fallen angel called Ezekiel to fix Sam from the inside out but the angel doesn’t seem to be making Sam any better and doesn’t seem to be going anywhere and is stopping Dean from telling Sam the truth and holding Sam hostage as he emotionally blackmails Dean and Sam is duct tape and safety pins on the inside and what does that mean WHAT DOES THAT MEAN and Castiel is now a human called Steve and he’s on the run from the angels and living in a gas and sip and Crowley is locked in the dungeon of the bunker jonesing for blood and Kevin is staying up for 4 days straight trying to crack the angel tablet not like literally crack it because we know that it can put itself back together and Crowley says there’s no sending the angels home but Crowley who the hell believes him and Abaddon is voiding all the demon deals and Hell is hellish but probably more than usual and did I mention that Sam is duct tape and safety pins inside and Dean tried to tell Sam the truth but Ezekiel blocked him and Dean can’t do anything about it because he doesn’t know if Sam will survive if the angel gets booted out and he can’t get to his brother because there’s an angel blocking the way and oh my God what the hell is going to happen and oh my poor boys how are you going to get through this one and and and

NOW
Hold me!

promo005

I always get a bit squirrely around the finales. But I have to say this one feels like there’s more at stake. More like, Sam and possible someone else...

Here’s the synopsis…

HOLY TERROR

AN ANGEL WAR BEGINS --- After a massive angel slaughter occurs, Sam and Dean arrive at the scene to investigate and are surprised to run into Castiel. While investigating, Castiel is captured and tortured.  Meanwhile, Dean questions Ezekiel's demands and wonders if it might be time to tell Sam the truth.  Thomas J. Wright directed the episode written by Eugenie Ross-Leming & Brad Buckner (909).

Thomas J. Wright directed, “Repo Man”, “Bitten”, “Goodbye Stranger” and “Clip Show”. We all know who Eugenie Ross-Leming and Brad Buckner are.

To be perfectly honest, I could give a flying fudge if the angels all up and kill each other. What use are they? They’re nasty. Just nasty and the fewer of them on earth the damn well better as far as I’m concerned. I guess the issue is; how many unsuspecting humans would they take out in their petty angelic war. Like they’d care. Angels go home!  There. I said it.

It sounds like Castiel decided life, as Steve was not for him! I’m assuming that the torture is because the angels think he knows the secret to getting them all back behind the Pearly Gates, or that he knows something about Metatron or that they’ve figured out that the key is Cass’ Grace…which I think he’s even thought out loud.

And what does it mean that Dean decides it’s time to tell Sam, he kind of decided that last week and look where that went…absolutely nowhere thanks to that angelic road block, Ezekiel. But hooray for finally questioning Zeke’s demands. Dean’s been walking on eggshells around that angel for too long. Time for some answers, you feathery asshat!

Note there’s no mention of Crowley or Kevin in this or Metatron, which is totally weird, because look...

promo009

And Kevin. Eeep. I’m worried for him…because…

It also looks like the angels are taking over a whole lot of nuns or something! That swirling light in the sky and all those ladies in white dresses. And Cass is in some torture chamber or something and then there’s…

WHAT THE HELL HAVE YOU DONE, EZEKIEL. Honestly, look at that. Dean and Sam/Ezekiel are both looking downward towards something and we had that little shot of Kevin in there and yeah, I’m real worried about the kid. I’m worried because I’ve grown rather fond of him, but mostly I’m worried because I don’t want Sam’s body to be used to kill a member of the family, which Kevin has become. The brothers have pretty much adopted Kevin because he has no one else and I simply can’t bear the thought of his blood being on either of their hands. Of course, it could be something totally different and probably is, but the end of this promo with Zeke doing the up against the wall toss and freeze to Dean and saying in that cold voice of his “I did what I had to do”. GAH!

Here’s the preview clip.

Oh man. So obviously Sam has been out of it through a lot of the drive. He’s realised he’s lost chunks of times and that he’s there but not there. Then Dean just keeps on digging that hole. It’s time he put the shovel down before I grab it and conk him on the back of the head with it! I literally groaned. GROANED when I watched this. Groaned. Would I lie? Yeah… now stop it.

I want to see the CHCH promo so bad and as soon as it pops up I will add it in...right about here..

See! Everyone please welcome the CHCH promo to our preview...

This will take time. Humph! Yes, yes, angel-boy tell us something you haven't said before! Okay, so there really isn't any new information in here. Except maybe some awkwardly positioned humour at the top... Humph.

jared tweet
Did we all see Jared’s tweet yesterday? The moose is excited. Me, I’m nervous as all hell. And think about me won’t you…while you’re watching and I’m at work having to wait about 6 more hours until I get home! Stupid time difference.

I really want this episode to be epically good, even if I know that means it’s going to be epically painful. I feel wracked with dread and excitement and I can’t remember the last time I felt this level of trepidation for a mid-season finale. Which is cool, yes?

We’ve all got theories. Feel free to toss them around – even if you already have. It’s good to talk about this stuff at a time like this. One thing’s for sure, we’re all probably going to need a bit of a group hug (and possible group therapy) after this one.

I’ve got a bad feeling about this. May the force be with us all.

I’ll just be over here in a glass case of emotion…

"Would I lie?" AHAHAHAHA
Why doesn't Sam just say, "Hell, yeah. Are your lips moving?. Lying is your MO, Dean! Remember 'I lie. It's what I do'?"

I'm right in line with you on all this including the more the angels kill each other, the better.

I hope it really is as great as Jared says, even if it is painful.

really looking forward to tonite...becaus e it's fun i'm just gonna speculate...a wee bit

judging from the phote above, it looks to me like metatron is trying to talk zeke into something. it's his stance, metatron had the same stance with cas as well. judging by the look on zeke's face, it makes me wonder if zeke isn't more of an unwilling accomplice...i think it's possible that either metatron is approaching zeke for the first time, convincing him to do his bidding with the promise of getting back into heaven, or zeke has been working for metatron this whole time, again, doing metatron's bidding with the promise of getting zeke back to heaven. either way, i think it's possible that zeke may not be all that happy working with metatron. i sense that from his tone when he tells dean he did what he had to do...his tone seemed almost sad to me, like he had no choice...much like dean feels he has no choice either. i still think that zeke will heal sam, but it wouldn't surprise me if he was keeping sam alive, while healing himself first and not permitted to heal sam until his "job", was done. that's just my take on it. of course i could be totally wrong.
i do wonder though....is metatron simply just trying to keep angels out of heaven for his simple revenge? or do you think it's possible it's about something else? do you think an all out war/massacre of angels is a way to open the cage so michael can get out? lucifer too for that matter?
or do you think maybe the tablet has instructions for opening the cage? maybe metatron wants it destroyed so the angels can never get michael /lucifer out? or maybe destroying the tablet is the first step to getting the cage open?
i still think zeke is more like cas...following orders for what he believes will help him and thus the other angels...i don't feel like he's evil. i also think it's very possible that when he learns he's being played, which i think he may be, he'll turn on metatron and help the winchesters, much like cas has done in the past.
that's my spec .....guess i'll find out tonite how far off the reservation my theory is  but until then, i'm sticking with it.

I am hoping that this writing team has been working on this episode for like a year…. it's about how long they need to get some nuance in their scripts; although they did surprisingly ok with the last one, so I have more hope that I usually do when I see their names. And that sneak peak… that took forever to get released and seems very carefully chosen to not reveal ANYTHING that we don't already know. I am glad to see Sam voicing his suspicions though. I am guessing that right before this scene that Dean and Zeke have had a really looooong talk, and what was said convinced Dean to keep on lying. Oh… those poor boys! They are killing me.

I am with you SoD, I have bitten my nails down the the nub…! I know it will be a cliffy too, which makes the anticipation even worse knowing that they are going to devastate us and then leave us hanging for 5 WEEKS! :o

Yeah, I keep thinking of how Cas initially called him a "good soldier". Cas used to be one too, so I think it is possible that he's following someone's orders -- quite possibly Metatron's.

Man talk about a cliff hanger! They are going to leave us hanging in a really bad way I'm afraid on this one. Oh and E it is 6 weeks to hang not 5 but either way, it's too damn long!!!!

I am really afraid of what Zeke/Sam does to Kevin. The hopes is maybe he just put him to sleep like Cas used to do to them but why? It has to do something with what is on that tablet but who is steering the boat on this, Metatron? He is the most untrustworthy of the angels so far so no good is going to come from his return to earth.

I do believe tonight is going to require digging out the alcohol to get through this one.

OMG! Did Dean really say "Would I lie?" I'm a huge Dean fan but I laughed when he said that. If that doesn't make Sam suspicious I don't know what would. It looks like there is going to be a lot squashed into one episode and a lot left for discussion for hellatus. I hate these cliff hangers before long breaks!

Yeah, the team who retconned the reapers and had Cas unwittingly have sex with a possessed woman and later be smug about it. *sigh* Why would they give such an important episode to them?

Random thought here about Crowley taking human blood from a tweet I saw - he's doing it to become human enough to escape the devil's trap.

Told you it was random.

I'm petrified. On tenderhooks. Pins and needles. I hope tonight's episode lives up to the expectation and at the same time...

If something happens to Kevin because of Dean and Zeke takes Sam because of Dean, I think we're all going to watch Dean Winchester go insane.

This midseason break stuff is just cruel.

I agree about the Angels. Hunters need to band together and form some sor tof Angel elimination squad. Get some of those Angel blades, a massive quantity of holy oil and Just hunt the damn things down one by one.

And once this is over Sam can hug Dean, thank him, tell him he forgives him adn then quickly and quietly go into Witness Protection. get as far away from Dean as possible. Sam needs tio know he has more value then Plot device of Doom. This relationship... this bond....is so ... You. me. Come whatever. its a lie.

Remember when Dean once said "When I'm around nothing bad will ever happen to you?"

Isn't it ironic that When Deans around thats all that seems to happen to Sam?

So run, Sam. Get on a plane and run. Dont worry about Dean....he'll be fine. Heck, he'll be bonding with Zeke soon and telling you he made a better brother then you ever did any minute now.

That's so cynical, and yet ... accurate. I hate what they've done to Sam and Dean's relationship since Carver's come on board. Even before that he'd become the plot device of doom, and I hate that Dean has now been made the perpetrator of it almost exclusively. Sacrifice? Apparently that was just a moment of hope for Sam before the pulled the rug out from under him ... and us. WTF?

Why can't those feathery idjits put aside their differences and actually work together? Metatron was right, they should be locked up in a room until they learn to behave like siblings.

Just hoping the writers can pull another episode like 8x07 because so far that was their only good work.

You're right, it's all Dean's fault, he should have left Sam dead in the first place, when he was stabbed by Jack :-| and maybe marry a stripper and make a lot of children.
Or even better, he should have stayed at the Sonny's home and left Sam with John or Bobby. I'm sure that in that case Azazel would have left Sam in peace. Because what happened to Sam it's all Dean's fault of course.

All the comments on that clip I saw last night basically said "DEAN!!! Noooooo..." It was pretty unanimous :D

Supernatural, the only show ever where 'he's on the side of the angels' is a warning and not a compliment.

Canon rewrites aside (and all the writers are doing that at this stage, it has gotten impossible to keep up) I haven't had too much problem with these writers over their last few episodes. They seem to understand the core of the show even if they don't worry too much about its details. If they get Sam, Dean and Castiel right I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt on the rest :-)

This is going to be scary!

Actually its the writers fault. But knowing what I know now I would be fine if Dean had never left Sonnys ....if Dean had let Sam stay dead at Cold oak. Then Dean would never have go0ne to hell, Sam would never have started the apocoolypse and he would have died human having said no to pure Evil.

But most of all he would have died with his free will intact.
And he would have died a free man...his soul intact, his sanity intact, and his humanity intact...not somone's puppet they can bring back from the dead at their every whim.

This is still what kills me granted when Sam took on the trials guessing he didn't know how bad it was going to be and Dean wanted to do the trials knowing if bad then Sam can lead his normal life he always wanted but Sam gave that speech to Dean about the light and showing Dean that and then first eps all Sam did was want to die. He had to know Dean would not stand for that he wants Sam to grow old and be married. Dean knows he will die with a gun in his hand. He told Sam that and Sam asked him if it was a suicide mission for Dean did he not want to live through the trials. Well yes Dean has been lying and what was it that when Cass was saved that Cass said to Dean you lied and he said well I do that. I think if Dean can't tell Sam he rather sam figure it out and then piece it together I think he has been the worse liar and Sam has to know by now Dean hates lying to him and not like his lies have been really that good. Sooner Sam finds out its like one less thing to worry about and for Dean to get what is coming to him from Sam. I think he would rather have secret out because he can then help Cass and such the secret is what is keeping this major burden on him. But I hope nothing happens to Kevin or Cass because of it. We know Cass will survive but I get the feeling even if Zeke did something to Kevin and Sam finds out he will save Kevin. Just curious how Sam will handle this news??

Yes, and most of all, we would never have had Supernatural :P

Isn't it ironic that When Deans around thats all that seems to happen to Sam?

You're right, it's all Dean's fault, he should have left Sam dead in the first place, when he was stabbed by Jack :-| and maybe marry a stripper and make a lot of children.
Or even better, he should have stayed at the Sonny's home and left Sam with John or Bobby. I'm sure that in that case Azazel would have left Sam in peace. Because what happened to Sam it's all Dean's fault of course.

And that right there is what the writers gloss over again and again. It needs to be addressed otherwise Sam's story just becomes horror porn.

How exciting is it that Jared said this is one of the best episodes? When you consider that epic episodes they have had, I am overwhelmingly excited and horrified.

I hate myself for thinking this but...what if it's Sam and not Zeke? What if he hates that he's feeling so down and sick and Vesta basically told him he should be dead...what if he drinks Crowley's blood to get stronger? :o I know he wants to be "clean" and "normal" but what if he thinks he will cure him? Just a thought...I'm probably waaaaay off base.

Cant' believe it's episode 9 already... Another thought on that ending scene, where Zeke pins Dean to the wall and says "I did what I had to do". Everyone's guessing that Zeke does something to Kevin. What if Dean (or Sam), against Zeke's wishes, has Castiel come back to the bat cave with them, and Zeke decides to do something about it?

Thank you! :)

Reading elsewhere I see that many people hope that Sam, after finding out the truth, walked away from Dean.
I remember that the only time that Dean decided to get away from Sam (because they were the Achilles' heel of the other) ended with Sam said the Big Yes to Lucifer and destroyed the world (S05E04 - TheEnd!Verse) while in the 2009!Verse thanks to the love for Dean, Sam found the strength to take control of his body in the cemetery (Swan Song)
So I'm not so sure that get rid of Dean is enough for Sam to be safe from the supernatural.
I still believe, in spite of everything, that the only way they can win is together.

I agree that together is the only way they win. Sam has walked away from Dean on a number of occasions though -- in Scarecrow and after finding out that Dean killed Amy for example. So, that doesn't necessarily lead to a long separation or tragedy. I'd prefer that they not revisit End!Verse, but a lot of fans think they will.

I am hoping that this writing team has been working on this episode for like a year…. it's about how long they need to get some nuance in their scripts; although they did surprisingly ok with the last one, so I have more hope that I usually do when I see their names.

Yeah, the team who retconned the reapers and had Cas unwittingly have sex with a possessed woman and later be smug about it. *sigh* Why would they give such an important episode to them?

That's the question I've had ever since I read these two were the writers. I'm not expecting great things from this episode, but know it will move the story forward and leave us hanging, and I hope that after the hiatus, the story moves forward at a good pace...with not so many standalones in a row and everything thrown into two or three final episodes.

Well, in Scarecrow Sam met Meg, not exactly a good thing. So, with or without Dean, Sam was always intended to have the evil around. Even in Stanford he had Brady. Obviously I was referring to those who say that Sam should run away from Dean to be safe.

I believe that there will be a separation, Sam will have all the right to be mad, but I hope it will be short.

I was thinking along the lines of njspnfan. I was thinking that there are 4 possibilities to what Sam/Zeke will do in the bunker. That it happens in the bunker has me thinking:
1.He kills Crowley. – I don’t think that the writers have kept Crowley hanging around in the dungeon just to come out and be killed by Zeke. Plus, why would it happen now and not at some time before? Outside possibility, but I don’t think it will happen.
2.He kills some random person that they have met on this case and have brought back to the bunker to protect. I really don’t think this is what will happen either, but again, it is an outside possibility.
3.He kills Kevin. But if he was going to kill Kevin, he would have had ample opportunity previously, so the question becomes why now? What would change to make Kevin a threat?
4.He kills Cas. In one of the pictures from the episode, Cas, Dean and Sam are at a table sharing drinks. I can see this happening. At the bar, Sam says, “Hey, Cas, come back to the bunker with us. We’re safer together.” Zeke can’t come out to express his disapproval, and Dean doesn’t really have anything to say in front of both Sam and Cas. Dean did tell Sam that he wanted Cas in the bunker, and that Cas was the one who left to keep them safe. Once they get back to the bunker, Cas could recognize Zeke in Sam, or see Zeke manifest, or it could be that Zeke just feels threatened by Cas’ presence. Boom! – he kills Cas, and throws Dean against the wall when he walks in to the scene.
If Cas’ grace is really the key to reversing the spell and getting the angels back to heaven, Cas is going to need to get back into heaven at some point, and death would get him there. That would move the story along. Of course, one of the things that so impresses me about this show, is that it so rarely goes in the direction that I think it will. It constantly surprises me!

I hate to say this out loud, but what if Metatron is instructing Zeke to kill Kevin because he wants to eliminate the possibility of Kevin ever cracking the tablet? And then he'll reward Zeke by taking him back to heaven (which debunks an earlier theory I had about Zeke not wanting to go back to heaven, so IDK).

Of course, another prophet would be awakened if Kevin dies. But the Winchesters might not be able to get the new prophet to work with them (or at least that's what Metatron would be counting on).

I really hope that Kevin doesn't die. Maybe he'll just be handed over to Metatron

Enjoy the episode everyone. I have several hours to kill this afternoon without peeking at twitter... and I'm not very good at that, so wish me luck :D
