Walker Roundup Season Four Episode Twelve: “Letting Go”
Walker’s twelfth episode of the fourth season, “Letting Go”, finally sees the Jackal apprehended and the main case of the season closed. However, this show isn’t just about the plot, it’s about people. Even with a serial killer, the focus is on the victims and those hurt by the Jackal and how they move forward after bad things have happened to them. Victims like …
Cordell
Barely surviving being dosed with Digoxin and buried alive, Cordell starts clinging to life but still wanting to help. Even in the hospital, his thoughts are about his family, not himself. He has the mental fortitude to be able to use his ordeal of being a victim who survived to bait the Jackal. But it was his constantly probing the memory of his dream that led him to realize there were two Jackals. That realization, combined with the DNA evidence, helps shut the case against father and daughter for good. It was amazing to see Ranger Walker at his peak again, one last time. Jared is amazing throughout. The way he can run the gamut of emotions is always impressive. Equally impressive is Cordell’s ability to use the bad that has happened in his life to build a better future. He is even able to use what happened because of his grief over losing Emily to help…
Cassie
Ashley does an amazing job showing the depth of Cassie’s grief over losing Luna. The call to his voicemail is heartbreaking. However, when bad things happen to Cassie, she tends to lash out. In Season 3, she lashed out at Trey about Kevin. This time, she lashes out at Walker. She blames him for Luna’s death, accusing him in front of Capt. James and Trey. Then she is put to the ultimate test, to save the life of the one who killed the person she loved. Though it took some convincing from Walker, harkening back to how he had to calm her down their first time working together, she eventually saves Rebecca, fulfilling Captain James’ promise. But it drains her. Luckily, Geri comes home right when Cassie needs her, offering her much needed advice and a shoulder to cry on.Watching the Rangers wrap up the case was emotional. Not only does it take a physical and emotional toll on them, but it also leaves them changed. Geri was right that morning – the case hadn’t been complete. Now it is. With the series ending, this is probably the last case these Rangers will close before Walker ends. That makes “Letting Go”‘s emotional ending even more powerful.
“Letting Go” is thrilling, with multiple action sequences that keep the audience on the edge of their seats. A perfect way to wrap up the Texas Ranger side of Walker. Though there may be a case in the finale, it seems unlikely, because as Jared always said, Walker is about a family man who happens to be a Ranger, not a Ranger who has a family. So, after wrapping up the big case of the season, it seems likely the last episode will focus on family. Therefore, here is the hat tip from episode 2.05, after Walker and Micki had their last case together. A way to honor another last case.
