Let’s Discuss: Pick your Favorite Script
Recently on X (formerly Twitter), I happened to come across SPN Script Hunt – a group of fans who hunt down autographed copies of scripts from episodes of our beloved shows (Supernatural, Walker, Walker: Independence, The Winchesters and Gotham Knights to name a few). They then raffle off the scripts to raise money for charity. (Their largest raffle to-date just closed on June 30, 2024. To learn more about the impressive work done by this inner circle of the Supernatural Family, read Nightsky’s interview with the SPN Script Hunt team. It shares the amazing story of how their project got started and the outstanding results they’ve had in creating a Supernatural script archive. )
One script the Script Hunt team recently previewed on X/Twitter was Eric Kripke’s early draft of the Supernatural pilot – a draft so early the family name isn’t even Winchester. (Can you even imagine such a thing?)
This got me to thinking. Which Supernatural (or other show) script would you want to own the most? If you’re having trouble picking just one, I’ll allow you to pick a top 3.
For myself? On the one hand, there are favorite episodes like 5.08 “Changing Channels” or 11.04 “Baby.” Especially as both of those are very visually heavy episodes, I’m curious how much was scripted or described. But then 1.02 “Wendigo” was the first episode I got to watch, so a copy of that for the memories has its appeal.
On the other hand, early drafts of some infamously bad episodes would be fun, to see if you can figure out where it all went wrong. 3.06 “Red Sky at Morning” or 9.20 “Bloodlines” anyone?
Finally, do you have any favorite writers whose autographs you would just love to get? Top of my list are Kripke and Edlund, but I enjoyed some of Davy Perez’s episodes.
So, time to scan the full list of 327 Supernatural episodes to pick the #1 script you would love to have in your possession, and the #1 writer whose autograph you’d want to add to your collection. I’d also love to hear why these are your choices. (Sharing your Top 3 in each category is acceptable, too!) If you need to narrow down the massive selection of Supernatural episodes to a more manageable list, scan WFB’s list of the Top 100 Supernatural episodes to see our favorites!
