First, this is my pick of the week.  It’s from someone I haven’t mentioned here before, but out of all the reviews I read, I liked this one the most.  It comes from Tim Surette at TV.com.  Maybe because I was in a cheeky mood but I love his final analysis.  “I found "Defending Your Life" guilty! Of being mediocre!”  Damn, I wish I’d come up with that one.

This is another new recommendation for me.  As many of you know, I used to write for Blogcritics for a few years.  That's where I got my Supernatural (and TV) reviewing start.  Supernatural reviews have been sporadic (and sometimes non-existent) since I left, but Gerry Weaver, someone I know from covering other TV shows through the years on that site, has chosen to take on a Supernatural review.  Read the joint review on "The Girl Next Door" and "Defending Your Life."

Here’s Tina Charles’ review of “Defending Your Life.”  I want to say congrats to Tina for her Cards making the World Series.  Tina knows I had so hoped for that Tigers/Cardinals rematch!  Ah well, another year.

As for the review, she’s in the same camp as I am that the trial didn’t reach far enough.

I think Mo Ryan is the greatest TV Critic out there (that’s no secret).  Having said that, her reviews of Supernatural lately have been raising a lot of red flags about the quality of the show this season.  She gives outstanding reasons as to why Supernatural is losing its way, and it mostly falls in the approach to characterization in the writing.  It’s getting to the point where she might stop covering the show.

I’m going to share the links to both “The Girl Next Door” and “Defending Your Life” reviews.  I do have to warn you, the review for “The Girl Next Door” is extremely negative.  It’s accurate, but it’s hard for a real fan to read.  Her review of “Defending Your Life” actually mentions and addresses Bardicvoice’s review here on this site of “The Girl Next Door.”  So thanks for the shoutout Mo and presenting a differing POV, even if it’s one you don’t agree with.

Here’s Sweetondean’s analysis and I like how her opinions of the episode match many of my own.  The episode just fell short.  Naturally, she has plenty of gushing for Jensen.  A true joy for Dean fans:

Check out Nicole’s review on Salted and Burned.  As usual, she finds some great Buffy references.  And here I went Star Trek: TNG.

See Rekebah’s reviews at our friend and affiliate Support Supernatural.  She had a lot of great things to say about “Defending Your Life.”

As usual, I think I’m missing some great reviews.  Please share your links below.

We actually have one more bonus review coming to this site for “Defending Your Life” very soon.  The episode may have been mediocre, but there were awesome achievements with hair.  Best hair episode of the season.  This time though, it’s both brothers, not just Sam.  Watch for that soon.

Thanks for the Fangasm link!

To be honest, I haven't been able to read Mo Ryan's reviews in... well, ever. I think she hates the show. I didn't read reviews until after Season 5, so maybe that's it. But either she has the greatest case of Fan Fatigue ever, being a professional critic makes you hate everything, or she... well, maybe she just hates the show. Even the episodes you think she likes sound to me like a lot of hate, though I've never met her like you have. So thanks for the extra warning this time!

I'm going to stop reading Mo's reviews as they just depress me as I don't agree at all with her so far this season. Perhaps she should quit reviewing it if she dislikes it so much. it seems to me she is just finding things to pick on lately. Things that don't bother my enjoyment of the show at all.

I find Bardicvoice's reviews delightful and full of optimism and appreciation. She can find the lemonade even when the show gives us some lemons. I've never been disappointed in Bardicvoice's reviews since she began them. She is the very best and balanced reviewer in my opinion and I love her behind the scenes stuff about the production of the show.

Another reviewer I always enjoy reading is Gaelic Spirit. She is so into the show that it is a pleasure for me to read her opinions.

Thanks Alice, but I'm going to echo what others are saying. I have never had much time for Mo Ryan. I find her too Dean centric and negative for my taste. But I have found her reviews this season to be WAY off the reservation. She is a Cas fan, who is disappointed to lose him from the show, and I suspect somewhere deep down she just doesn't want to admit the show can be just as good without him. So she is being unduly harsh on s7, which I feel most fans think has been great so far and a big step up from s6.
I have my issues with DYL. I thought it the weakest ep of the season so far, and the trial was a missed opportunity. But apart from that I have found myself totally at odds with her views. More than that - because I don't always have to agree with a reviewer to respect them - I have started to see evidence of a lack of objectivity, and an over negative take on everything that is not professional. I think her Cas bias has coloured her view of the show. I would prefer she stopped covering the show than became a constant negative voice.
Sorry, but that is how I feel.
