Wonder where Supernatural's ratings have been? Here's where. DVRs.
I've been waiting eagerly for these ratings to come out since Supernatural's live numbers have been so low. TV By The Numbers.com finally released the Live +7 DVR ratings for season premiere week (September 19th - 25th).
Supernatural ranked #1 in percentage of viewers gained with Live + 7 DVR numbers factored in 18-49. That's the rating advertisers care about. Their ratings in 18-49 increased a whopping 63 percent! The ratings for "Meet The New Boss" were adjusted upward to a 1.3 18-49 rating, up from their .8 live plus same day DVR rating.
Just for perspective, only one show on The CW even comes remotely close to a 1.3 live rating, and that's The Vampire Diaries. When other CW shows had their DVR ratings factored in, both Ringer and The Secret Circle got a 1.3 as well, but they had a higher .9 live rating. America's Next Top Model only came in at a 1.1, Nikita a .9, and 90210 a 1.0. The Vampire Diaries got a 1.7.
It also should be noted that the competition Fringe finished 3rd on the list, going up 53% from a 1.5 to a 2.3. Sounds like watching live on Fridays may not be a priority, but Friday shows still getting noticed.
The chart can be found here, but I can tell you that since TV By The Numbers has done these DVR charts, Supernatural has never finished number one and never close to 63%. That's a pretty large jump for any show.
The CW loves to spin DVR numbers, so this is all good.

Thank you for posting this!
So Live + DVR is 1.3 ( i am assuming Live rating is rating @ broadcast time and DVR rating is live recorded and later on watched?)
What is mean by "Live+ 7 DVR" numbers? Thanks for news!!
What’s DVR? Is it like recording it and playing it back later ie like Sky Plus where you can record shows and keep them on there as long as you want? If it is, how does that help with advertising? Would most people not skip through the ads when watching it on playback? I don’t think I’ve seen an ad in about 2 years!
How does that help with advertising? There's the problem. Advertisers have conceded in paying for DVR +3 ratings. They've accepted DVRs are the norm, and some do watch commercials on the DVR. Even fast forwarding over an ad is better than nothing.
We don't see the DVR +3 ratings, but usually most people watch a show within 3 days. 7 days is a much slimmer margin.
It occurred to me, though, that I think maybe I was looking at numbers with some sort of vague hope for a Season 8, but then I reminded myself today that that's still fairly unlikely. (Numbers notwithstanding, there are contractual hurdles that make me think this season may indeed be the last.) Still, I really hope the numbers go out with some punch!
I'm writing an article explaining the numbers, but Supernatural is secure. I really hope it'll come out soon.
Thing is, I actually love the show where it is now creatively, but I imagine the people that work on it are exhausted. But that is conjecture at best--on to the numbers, because I would prefer your facts. :)
Do you mean in terms of their choice of work?
As the leads of their own show, even on the CW they are compensated very well - most likely better than they would be on a 'new' show. (As they damn well should be with the work they put in on the show)
In the later seasons of Smallville, Tom Welling was given producer credits.
