Hello everyone!  It's been a VERY busy week here at The Winchester Family Business, and as I'm sure a few of you noticed, we're having some server timeout issues.  Well, after a little investigation, it seems that our overwhelmed commenting module is causing all of that pain.  I've had to disable it, so there is no way to leave or read comments with our articles right now.   I'm working on a solution to fix it (or find a new one) but in the meantime, you can enjoy all our wonderful articles again without issue.  If you're anxious comment, feel free to go on over to our Facebook or Twitter page and send some feedback.  We still want to hear from you!

Thanks for your patience and sorry for the frustration.

Alice

Update:  Well, after MUCH configuring, I had to scrap the old commenting system and reinstall new.  I'll be watching it very carefully over the next few days, but as you may notice, it's not very pretty.  Since I went through this trouble, I'm hoping pretty it up and tie registered users to their profile pages via comments, which might even include Avatars or photos.  That functionality is now built in, it just needs to be setup.  In the meantime, you can comment again.

Thanks,

Alice

Heh, so I guess that's why my email didn't get sent.

Oh well, whatever. Doesn't matter as it was of no importance.

Yearrah, wouldn't it be worse if it was gone altogether. Least it's still here, and going strong.

Plus, prettiness is in the eye of the beholder!

Ah, so that's what happened, I thought the Squeakers had worked out a way to install parent-protection filters and locked me out ... Please ignore my confused bleating in the other thread then ...

Glad you were able to figure out a quickie fix...and it's much easier on my computer which just could not and would not load TWFB anymore. (Sorry for your woes but better the commenting system than my computer crashing 8-)

Oh the pains of running a website.

The new commenting system will take some getting used to with the most recent first. Any way to get that reversed? Or is this the way it will be now. Also, about the timing out thing. I was drafting up some comments and tried to post, but the system timed out on me and I LOST everything that I had so carefully crafted. With the old system, when you timed out, as least it still showed what you had written and were able to copy and paste it in when you resigned into the system. However, with this new commenting section, everything that I had written was completely gone. I was frustrated as I couldn't really recreate what I had just written. Is there anyway to rectify this, either with the timing out issue, or if you are timed out, to have what you wrote pop up on your screen.

If not, then lesson learned, will draft any long responses elsewhere and then copy and paste it in when I am ready.

Thanks Alice.

If everyone wants the comments to go back to oldest first, I can do that. By default the new system came this way, but anything can be changed with some tweaks to the code. I'd also like to remove the numbering of posts. I don't like that. So, the format is still a WIP. I'll take all suggestions!

I think most of us would prefer oldest posts first. It's easier to follow the conversation that way

Yeah, you got rid of that fugly, highlight, white screen, drive me to drink, ugliness.

Go Alice, go Alice, go Alice.
Now how about ending this Hellatus, once and for all.
