Supernatural Season Six is Official!

UPDATE:  This is the word from Mo Ryan about Kripke and a sound bite from Sera Gamble:

Source:  http://featuresblogs.chicagotribune.com/entertainment_tv/2010/02/supernatural-vampire-diaries-gossip-girl-90210.html

UPDATE: When I asked a CW representative whether creator/executive producer Eric Kripke would return for "Supernatural's" sixth season, I got a three-word reply: "Yes, he's back."

UPDATE 2: I sent a note to "Supernatural" executive producer Sera Gamble when I heard about the show's renewal for a sixth season. I said I was happy to hear that the show would be returning, but I had to be a little cheeky and ask if viewers would be getting "The Apocalypse 2: The Squeakquel" next season. Here's her response:

"No, you will not be getting Apocalypse, The Squeaquel in Season 6 (that's hilarious)," Gamble wrote. "We're climaxing that story this season. We've been working on the Season 6 storyline for quite some time, and we're very excited about it. We have lots of ideas, and are grateful for the chance to keep the show going.

"Please tell the fans that the writers say thank you!  We so appreciate the support."

I just got this from a tweet via the CW Network.  More info coming, but here's what I have so far...

The CW Announces Early Pickups for Five Series

Freshman Hit “The Vampire Diaries,” “Gossip Girl,” “90210,” “Supernatural” and “America’s Next Top Model” To Return Next Season

The CW Network has given early pickups to five series for next season, including four signature dramas and the reality hit AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL. All five shows will return in Fall 2010.

The series receiving early renewals include this season’s breakout hit THE VAMPIRE DIARIES, The CW’s most-watched show (4.6 million viewers) and the network’s number one show among adults 18-34 (2.5/8). THE VAMPIRE DIARIES premiere generated the largest audience in network history for a series debut (5.7 million total viewers). THE VAMPIRE DIARIES has improved The CW’s performance Thursday at 8:00 p.m. by 114% among women 18-34 this season. The network also renewed fan favorite SUPERNATURAL, which will enter its sixth season next year.  SUPERNATURAL has one of the most loyal audiences of any show on television and does heroic work in a perennially tough time period. It has improved over last season among women and adults 18-34 (29% and 8%, respectively) this season, a remarkable accomplishment for a fifth-year show.

Also given early pickups for next season are The CW’s Monday night sensation GOSSIP GIRL,which is The CW’s number one show among its target demographic of women 18-34, and Tuesday’s trend-setting drama, 90210, which sees some of TV’s largest percent increases from DVR playback, nearly doubling its women 18-34 live-only ratings once live+7 data is included. Wednesday anchor AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL will also be back for cycles 15 and 16 with superstar Tyra Banks and new groups of aspiring models. AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL continues to rank second in the competitive Wednesday 8:00 p.m. hour among young women 18-34 (3.4/10).

It's interesting that Smallville didn't make the list yet. I heard that was the show holding up the early renewal process because contract negotiations were a little tougher. The network was itching to announce though with all the bubble talk. I'm getting a good feeling that One Tree Hill won't be back.

Budget issues are holding up both Smallville and One Tree Hill. There will likely be no word on those shows until the upfronts in May.

I am so happy and beyond excited. (jumping up and down for joy) I was not ready to see this show end and am so pleased that we get another year to watch our beautiful boys and be a part of their angsty filled lives. Very Happy

(Now maybe we can get an answer to the series long question as to why Dean's eyes bled in Bloody Mary. Wink

So it was Smallville that was the hold-up. I knew it was one of those five, and that it wasn't SPN, but never knew which one. Surprising?

So Alice, do you think if Smallville isn't renewed SPN will move into it's Friday spot at 7:00PM. I have a feeling it would.

I would say that's a given. No doubt in my mind. However, Smallville will likely come back. The thing now if budget is an issue, will it be for a full season?

I've got a lump in my throat... All I can say is that a season 6 is not for everyone. Congratulations to our boys, creator, writers and the whole production team. And of course, to us, the "loyal audiences" who helped this to come true. Very Happy

I don't know how i feel about this. I would be happy if it means Kripke and co. won't drag out the apocalypse into season 6 and be done with the angel mytharc this season as promised. I won't be happy if we get the apocalypse dragged out into season 6 with angels still roaming and a cliff hanger that involves angels. And even worse, the writers scramble and come up with a lame excuse to have Castiel in season 6 if they end th apocalypse this season no matter how much i love Castiel and Misha.

But i will give them the benefit of the doubt and hope for the best.

anene, The whole myth arc ends this year...Kripke & Co have already announced that. No more apocalypse next year. They are supposed to go back to the format of s1.

We'll see!

Hmmm, I really, really wonder where the Supernatural story will go next season. What can top the apocalypse? Going back to S1 format sounds great thou, loved the early episodes. But, Dean and Sam aren't the same people they used to be 5 years ago.

Would like to have Castiel still on, but if the apocalypse arc finishes, Cas will leave, right? Maybe they'll bring in Jimmy? As a helping hand? ...hmmmm, nope, Jimmy will probably be fed up with all that supernatural crap he'll never ever want to see the brothers again.

Hmmm, I'm thinking, ... and thinking ...and I think I'll better leave this to the writers Smile
I have no doubt the Supernatural team will do an equally fantastic job as they have done so far.

So, season 6 - bring it!

This is excellent news! Hooray for season 6, especially since they've announced that there won't be Apocalypse Now and Later, because that would have kind of sucked if they dragged it out. I'm very curious to see where season 6 will take us.

I'm in for the Zombie Alligator campaign, Alice!

Very Happy Whoop-de-doop!

AWOL cat turned up in one piece and a sixth season hoves into view with Evil Kaptain K at the helm ( sorry, but it's been non-stop pirates for the last week ... I'll try and keep the nautical nonsense to a minimum )

I'll sign up for the ZAs, so I will ... Avast! Arrgh-Haa! ( Drat, sort of slipped out ... )

As for Cas, he obviously has an affinity with fast food if last week's offering was anything to go by so a career flipping burgers would seem to be indicated, he'd look sooo distinguished in one of those weird little hats ... Laughing

Of course, I'm delighted to hear this! I always want official confirmation, and now that we have it, I can officially celebrate! As long as Kripke and Co. retain the passion and quality of the past five years, I will be delighted. If he has an episode with a Raven-Simone wedding episode in Hawaii, I'm outta here!

I'm on board witht the zombie alligators. As for Cass...if the myth arc is over, I can't see how he would fit in.... And I really hope they don't do another religious myth arc. They really need to get back to the original basics of the show. They need to get more viewers, and overall viewers has dropped a LOT since s1.

There once was a zombie alligator
Who died devouring a diner’s waiter,
Woke up hungry, undead
Lonely, Not well-fed
And planned on having Winchester later…

How does one even begin to try going back to the beginning? Like S1 really? First off, even S1 had foreshadowing for everything that is happening in S5 and even in S1 there were demons. Pagan gods and so on. So the sixth season is basically going from Epic to classic? That's really anti-climatic. Was the story originally made to end at this season? Because literally everything has been leading up to this: Mary dying, Sam's powers everything. What could be done that could top this?

I'd like to be happy about this, but I don't know. It sounds more like a fan pleaser season than storytelling to me.
