justanotheridijiton:

Cas’s Self-Doubt. “I think that Cas goes through varying [and] different stages — varying and different degrees of self-loathing over time,” Misha said. “So a lot of his actions end up being motivated by him trying to sort of pay penance for past failures that he perceives himself having made. He carries baggage with him. Like when he screws something up he just doesn’t let it go. So that has been a big motivating factor for him for a long time — trying to do the right thing because he feels like he has failed in the past. And I think we saw that at the end of season 12 — he can’t forgive himself. I think he gets a little bit of a reset at the beginning of season 13, by which I mean he’s dead. But he gets a little bit of a reset because I think the circumstances as they unfolded at the end of [season 12] felt like they weren’t really anybody’s fault. Although I suppose Castiel could find a way to blame himself in some way. But so far in what I’ve seen he isn’t blaming himself too much. And I think that now we’re also sort of uniting around a common purpose ultimately.”

Which Cas Will Return? Misha was a bit vague when asked whether the version of Cas we know would return, so it’s a bit up in the air right now: “Well, we’re going to see different iterations of…well, yeah. The Cas that comes back is not like a totally different Cas.”

Cas and Jack. “It takes along time for them to actually come together in the show,” Misha explained of Jack and Castiel’s first meeting. “I don’t think we have scenes together until episode 6. But, in a way, I think Jack sort of thinks of him as a surrogate father or something like that. There’s some sort of strange imprinting that may have happened even though Cas was dead.” Is Jack on their side though? “I think that’s a big question for everybody.”

Supernatural Set 2017 - Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles & Alexander Calvert

SUPERNATURAL: Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles & Alexander Calvert on the Upcoming Reunion and the Cowboy Episode from The TV Addict

http://www.thetvaddict.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/spn-smiling.jpeg

Castiel reunited with the Winchester brothers on this week’s SUPERNATURAL and the angel will be delving into a case with Sam and Dean in the next episode. He’ll also get a chance to meet Jack for the first time since his birth. Once that meeting happens, the group will head to Texas to investigate a case and fulfill Dean’s obsession with everything cowboy related.

During a visit to the set of SUPERNATURAL in Vancouver, we spoke to Jared Padalecki (Sam Winchester), Jensen Ackles (Dean Winchester) and Alex Calvert (Jack) about the reunion with Cas and what’s to come in the next episode.

How Important Are the Winchesters? Before moving on to the next episode, we noticed that Billie brought Dean back from the dead this week because, according to her, Sam and Dean are “important”. We’ve always known that the Winchesters are crucial to the fate of the universe, but does Billie know something now that we don’t? Jared and Jensen aren’t yet sure. “We haven’t really found out why just yet,” Jared explained. “We know we’re important for some reason, but true to SUPERNATURAL form I think it will be a surprise to Sam and Dean and Jared and Jensen. I think the brothers have always felt like they have a higher cause and a greater calling, so I think they’re looking forward to figuring out exactly what it means.”

Loss of Faith. The meeting with Billie also revealed that Dean feels a bit loss after the recent deaths of his mother and friend. Cas’ return, however, will be considered a bit of a “win”, according to Jensen. “At the end of last season and the beginning of this season we do see that Dean is just of like given up, so to speak. So the return of Cas has ignited that fire again. He’s got some hope and motivation to dig a little deeper and see what we can figure out. Because if he was written off and Mom was written off, maybe there’s a few other people that shouldn’t have been written off. And we figure that out as the series continues to move on.”

Skeptical Sam. While Dean is just happy to have his buddy back and doesn’t seem to question the reason beyond Cas’ return going forward, Sam is a bit more skeptical, according to Jared. “I think Sam is really looking to find out what happened and how did it happened. Also, not just because of Sam’s intellectual curiosity, but Sam still wants mom back and, heck, if we can start calling out who we want back, I’m sure there are a lot of people Sam wouldn’t mind to bring back. So I think Dean is so relieved to have that win he’s looking for, and to have our buddy back. Sam’s like ‘OK, it is great, I agree, but, you know, to quote Dean — the other shoe is probably going to drop. So what else can this person do?'”

Jack and Castiel Meet. Castiel spent the later part of season 12 protecting Jack before his birth because he believed that the boy could help the world. Jack “adopted” Castiel as his surrogate father and was devastated when he learned that Cas was gone at the beginning of season 13. Now the two of them will finally come face-to-face. We’ll see that Jack and Cas are “close because they think it’s like meeting the only other alien,” Alexander said. “You’re an alien on the Earth and you thought you were alone, but then suddenly there’s someone who’s actually like you. I feel like they have that unique bond.” This moment will mean “everything to [Jack]. I don’t want to say too much cause I think it’s all kind of there when we see it, but I mean, a huge moment for Jack.”

Dean’s Love of Westerns. We saw that Dean is obsessed with Westerns all the way back in the season 6 episode of “Frontierland”, but he’ll get a chance to revisit that in the upcoming episode “Tombstone”. “I don’t think it’s any shock that I’ve always been kind of a fan of the iconic symbol of a cowboy and everything that comes along with that,” Jensen said. “A fan of western movies and everything. So when I read that Dean gets all excited about it and decides to play the part up, so to speak, I of course got excited as well. I think there’s a nice slow-mo montage of some snakeskin boots and a hat and the whole bit. But yeah, instead of playing FBI agents we get to play Texas Rangers, which is kind of fun.” Alexander said that the crew was so into this episode that “everyone in the crew dressed up as cowboys for one of the days.”

Watch a portion of our interview with Jared, Jensen and Alexander below (more to come!).

Anything on Jack and Castiel’s reunion on Supernatural? — Rachel

Castiel will very quickly find himself taking on a parental role with Jack, even as soon as this week’s episode, a.k.a the first time they meet. “A big part of this episode is about trying to tell Jack that everybody screws up, don’t give on yourself,” Misha Collins says. “The truth is, Cas is the worst person to be giving that speech because he never forgives himself and is always lamenting his poor choices in the past.” And yes, Castiel will have to face his choices at some point. As Collins puts it, “I don’t think the journey of self-healing as really begun for Cas, but he’s also not as morose as we’ve found him previously.”

Supernatural Stars Talk Renewed Hope for Dean, Castiel and Jack's Reunion

It’s a (rare) good week for Dean Winchester, who has two reasons to be excited during this Thursday’s Supernatural: He gets to revel in his love of Westerns for a case, plus — and this is the really good part — his pal Castiel is back from the dead. (#doublewin)

Supernatural SpoilersCas’ miraculous homecoming is a big morale booster for Dean, who “has just kind of given up, so to speak,” after suffering a multitude of losses, star Jensen Ackles shared during TVLine’s recent visit to the show’s Vancouver set. “So the return of Cas has ignited that fire again. He’s got some hope and motivation to dig a little deeper, and see what we can figure out” in terms of getting mom Mary back from the apocalypse world. Because if Cas can come back from the great beyond, “then maybe there’s a few other people that shouldn’t have been written off,” Ackles added.

While Dean is “a little less questioning” of Cas’ mysterious resurrection — his thinking is more along the lines of, “‘I don’t care how it happened. We got our buddy back,'” Ackles described — his brother is skeptical.

“Sam is really looking to find out what happened and how it happened,” Jared Padalecki previewed. And “intellectual curiosity” isn’t the only thing driving the younger Winchester. “Sam still wants Mom back, and heck, if we can start calling out who we want back, I’m sure there are a lot of people Sam wouldn’t mind to bring back.”

“So I think Dean is so relieved to have that win he’s looking for, and to have his buddy back, to have our buddy back,” Padalecki continued. “Sam’s like, ‘OK, it is great, I agree. But you know” — to quote Dean — “‘the other shoe is probably going to drop.'”

Supernatural SpoilersThen there’s the other big Cas moment in this Thursday’s installment (The CW, 8/7c): For Jack, getting to meet his chosen father “means everything to him,” Alexander Calvert shared. “It’s like meeting the only other alien. You’re an alien on the Earth, and you thought you were alone, but then suddenly, there’s someone who’s actually like you. I feel like they have that unique bond.”

Amid all the emotional reunions, there’s also plenty of humor and lightness when an excited Dean gets to pretend to be a Texas Ranger for this week’s case. “I think there’s a nice slo-mo montage of some snakeskin boots and a hat and the whole bit,” Ackles teased. “It’s fun to see Dean geek out,” Padalecki added. “As Sam, it’s fun to see Dean as childish.”

‘Supernatural’: Jared Padalecki & Jensen Ackles on “Tombstone” and Castiel’s Return from Collider

Last week, Supernatural stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles sat down to speak with 13 journalists (as is a yearly tradition on the Vancouver set) to talk about what’s coming next on the show. This time around, we spoke to them about the upcoming “Tombstone” episode, what it means for Dean and Sam that Castiel is back, and what it’s like having Alexander Calvert on set now with Misha Collins. (Per usual, they were delightful, especially their banter).

Also, be sure to stay tuned for more to come from our interview, including some teases about the Scooby Doo animated episode, and the Wayward Sisters spinoff.

QUESTION: Alexander Calvert told us that Dean is at home in the “Tombstone” episode. Can you tell us more about that?

ACKLES: Dean and also Jensen. I don’t think it’s any shock that I’ve always been kind of a fan of the iconic symbol of a cowboy and everything that comes along with that, as a fan of western movies and everything. So when I read that Dean gets all excited about it and decides to play the part up, so to speak, I of course got excited as well. I think there’s a nice slow-mo montage of some snakeskin boots and a hat and the whole bit. But yeah, instead of playing FBI agents we get to play Texas Rangers, which is kind of fun.

PADALECKI: It’s fun to see Dean geek out. As Sam, it’s fun to see Dean as childish.

ACKLES: It was a fun episode. I like those episodes, kind of lighten it up a bit and allow that humor to kind of come show its face a little bit more.

What’s it like having Misha Collins and Alex Calvert on set together?

PADALECKI: It was exciting. To speak on Misha’s behalf, I think he was more thrilled than he’s ever been because a lot of the brutality that usually gets aimed…

ACKLES: Targeted….

PADALECKI: …was now kind of split up between Alex and Misha, so he finally had somebody that he was trying to pull pranks on as well.

ACKLES: I believe it’s misery loves company.

PADALECKI: It’s good. When Alex first came on, I was like “he actually reminds me a lot of a young Misha.” Just his personality type. He’s also playing a character, so he’s taking it very seriously and working very hard and he’s a very intelligent young man. He’s very talented.

ACKLES: Misha 2.0

PADALECKI: Yeah, Misha 2.0. So to see them together….and the irony is that we work with him so much more than Misha has. We were excited, we were like “oh there’s another character, it’s going to give us some time off.” And now Misha, he’s like in the first five episodes I think he’s with Alex two days. It’s great, I like the way they play off each other. I’ve always said, obviously the show kind of hinges on the relationship between Sam and Dean, but I feel like the world is enriched by seeing the way they interact with other people, and seeing the way Cas interacts with other people, and with Jack as well.

In Episode 5, Billie sent Dean back because they were important. Will we learn why or they’re just most important dudes in the universe?

ACKLES: I’m not one to throw titles around, but uh….[laughs]

PADALECKI: We haven’t really found out why just yet. We know we’re important for some reason but true to Supernatural form I think it will be a surprise to Sam and Dean and Jared and Jensen. We’re doing [Episode] 11 right now. I think the brothers have always felt like they have a higher cause and a greater calling, so I think they’re looking forward to figuring out exactly what it means.

In that episode we also saw the loss of Dean’s faith – how does Cas’ return affect that?

ACKLES: It obviously affects it big time. At the end of last season and the beginning of this season we do see that Dean has just like given up, so to speak. So the return of Cas has ignited that fire again. He’s got some hope and motivation to dig a little deeper and see what we can figure out. Because if he was written off and Mom was written off, maybe there’s a few other people that shouldn’t have been written off. And we figure that out as the series continues to move on.

How much are Dean and Sam looking into or questioning how Cas got back?

ACKLES: Dean’s a little less questioning and more accepting of “I don’t care how it happened, we got our buddy back.”

PADALECKI: Between Sam and Dean, Sam is probably more the chef than the consumer. Where Dean eats the pizza, Sam’s like “what kind of cheese is that?” So I think Sam is really looking to find out what happened and how did it happened. Sam’s like “OK, it is great, I agree, but, you know, to quote Dean — the other shoe is probably going to drop. So what else can this person do?”

This is the second major production to film in Cloverdale this year, after Love Finds Its Way, a Hallmark Christmas movie, brought the Christmas season to the downtown a little earlier than usual when it filmed on 176 Street in March.

No word yet on whether Supernatural’s iconic ’67 Chevy Impala will be cruising down Cloverdale’s main street, but the Reporter will keep an eye out.

Pictures: The Supernatural film crew will be on site today (Sept. 14). (Sam Anderson)

You can read the full article here: Sarah Troyer on Guest Starring On (and Being a Fan of) Supernatural

https://fangasmthebook.files.wordpress.com/2017/11/13-06-sarah-troyer-nina-lopez-corrado.jpg

Lynn: How was the character described to you or described in the breakdown?

Sarah provided the description, which is always fascinating to me to see.

Role: Athena Lopez
20s – early 30s, please include all ethnicities in your suggestions. This “Goth Rocker Betty Page” is a sexy, offbeat undertaker who has lived in an Old West cemetery her whole life…GUEST STAR (17)

Lynn: What did you add to your understanding of Athena to ‘flesh out’ the characterization? Was there any backstory that you constructed other than the bits of information we got on the show?

Sarah: After reading the script, I believed Athena to be a strong, determined character with a loving side to her. Although she may be seen as different (her style, music interests, job), she’s absolutely confident in who she is. I don’t think viewers got to see much of her office but it was plastered with her favourite bands, artists, pin up girls etc. She definitely didn’t hide who she was. Secondly, she didn’t have much issue telling anyone off, whether it was Sam, Dean or Dave (one of my favourite things about her). However, I knew Athena had a loving side and I tried to keep that in mind so she didn’t become too brash or even stand offish. When she finds out Dave robbed a bank and murdered someone, I didn’t think she could just flip him the bird and say have a nice life. I think there would be a lot of confusion and mixed feelings in a situation like that, a moral dilemma. She loved Dave and was with him for so long, she thought she knew him but now he’s turned into someone she doesn’t know – who is he really? She should walk away but it’s hard to walk away from someone you have so much love and history with. I reflected on my own relationship and tried to play it as honestly as I could. So maybe I didn’t give her much of a backstory, but I read in between the lines of the script to add little details about who she was and her thought process behind each of her actions.

Lynn: Actually I think all that thought you put into making sense of her motivations and emotions totally came through. I had a feeling that you had put time into figuring Athena out, and that’s why she came across as a fleshed out character who grabbed my attention. One of the things that made Athena appealing was that she seemed to be in a relationship with a guy who was just a bit too possessive and controlling, who sometimes seemed to ignore her boundaries, and yet she also seemed drawn to him. In other words, she seemed very real – I think many of us, as women, have been in those situations. Was this dynamic something you played up? (Because some of your subtle choices really showed Athena’s ambivalence about Dave’s way of showing his affection).

Sarah: Dave giving Athena a slap on the behind and her standing up to him was a playful dynamic between the two of them, in my opinion. If it wasn’t, she wouldn’t have given him a big grin and a kiss. However, I do think we see Dave’s manipulative, possessive side when he says “we got it good here, why do you want to mess that up?” causing Athena to falter and second guess herself and her wants.

Lynn: Definitely.

Sarah: Unfortunately, we all can get into relationships with someone who we think wants the best for us when in reality only wants what’s best for them, i.e. Dave only wants to move once it becomes in his best interest, faking his support for Athena’s dream. Athena’s blind to his manipulations because she cares for Dave and believes he does too. This further plays into her confusion as to what to do when it comes out that Dave robbed a bank and killed someone.

Lynn: And you’re right, that’s realistic. I think we’ve all been there, and I’ve certainly worked with lots and lots of clients who were struggling to let go of a long term relationship when it became clear the other person didn’t have their best interest in mind.

I also wanted to ask Sarah about Athena because to me, she really had that ‘fangirl’ vibe. And Sarah had tweeted that she watched the show before she got the audition, so she was a fan herself.

Lynn: Supernatural has had quite a few female characters who fans related to because they seemed like ‘fangirl’ type characters, including Athena. We meet her when she’s dressed in a way that many Supernatural fangirls might dress, and she’s clearly a music fan. I think that might be why I was drawn to the character and wanted to know more. Was that something you were conscious of in playing her, since you said you’ve been watching the show for years?

Sarah: I mainly focused on script analysis and scene work when developing Athena but I’m over the moon that I could play a character that so many Supernatural fans relate to. I know I always appreciate seeing female characters that have more to offer than their looks. I think Supernatural does a great job of giving their female characters more dimension and character.

Lynn: I agree, the Show has gotten so much better at that. Were you aware of the Supernatural fandom and how much of a force it has been over the past thirteen years?

As a Supernatural fan, I knew of the fandom. I’m not overly active on social media so I never knew its force. But after tweeting about my role, I definitely felt it. What an amazing, loving, inclusive fandom! Everyone is so positive and supportive. Apart from a great cast and crew, no wonder the show has gone on so long! All the love from the supernatural fandom keeps it going. I feel so blessed to have received some of that love ❤

Lynn: When did you start watching the show and would you consider yourself a fan?

Sarah: I’ve been watching the show since season 1! I would watch and re-watch episodes like crazy. Sometimes I still do – some of the more comedic episodes especially. When I was about 13, on a soccer trip to Vancouver (I’m originally from Calgary), I was praying that I might see the boys driving the impala, or get to meet them.

Lynn: How was it working on the show you’ve viewed as a fan? I know that the first time I went on the Supernatural set as a journalist/writer, I was very aware that I was a fan, and it made me much more nervous than I would ordinarily be!

Sarah: In the past, working with big name actors I’ve always kept my cool but not this time. I was incredibly nervous! The first day I barely spoke two words to Jared and Jensen. I had no idea what to say, and was nervous that I would say something stupid – which I did, but the guys were great about it. Richard Speight (the trickster) was even on set one day and I just sat in my chair keeping my eyes averted – I’m such a big fan of his! Still kicking myself for not chatting with him.

Lynn: Oh no, he’s so awesome too! Hopefully he’ll read this and know you were fangirling him from afar. Or from close up. So can you share some behind the scenes insights from filming the scene with Jared and Alex? Your delivery of the ‘did his parents sign a permission slip’ line was priceless.

Sarah: The guys were great! Alex kept mostly to himself but was ready to work whenever we were rolling. Jared was of course improvising funny lines and keeping everyone laughing. I hope some of it makes the blooper reel! Everyone was very inclusive and we all joked around with one another on set. At the end of the first day Jared gave me a big hug. The whole experience was amazing. I can’t get over what a positive experience it was ❤

Lynn: Can you share some behind the scenes insights from filming the scene with Jensen and (guest star) Eric where they finally kill ‘Dave’? Were you there to watch Jensen come tumbling out of that hole in the wall, or was that filmed on a separate day?

That was a cool day on set. I love filming scenes with multiple characters. Everyone coming together adds a whole other aspect and feel. With the scene creepily lit, the gunshot, the blood and everyone’s different energies the scene definitely felt more intense.

Lynn: I’m guessing the blood splatter wasn’t all that much fun, but it came off perfectly. How was that done?

Sarah: I’m always happy to do the nitty gritty part of the job. In Wynonna Earp I got to do my own roll and drag stunt so the blood splatter was a walk in the park! Very simple, I sat in my chair and the special effects team used a spray gun. The first take, the splatter wasn’t enough so I had to quickly wash off and change into another set of clothes for a second take. Luckily we got it the second time round!

“Supernatural” fans know Sarah Troyer as the captivating mortician Athena from season 13’s episode Tombstone. When Sarah is not charming viewers on screen, she relaxes on the piano to play and sing movie soundtracks or hangs out with family and friends. The Calgary born actress is known for her roles in “Supernatural,” “My Little Pony: The Movie,” “Haunting Melissa: Dark Hearts,” “Wynonna Earp,” and “Incontrol.”

Colleen Bement: “Supernatural” fans would just love to hear about your experience on the set of the recent and fun “Supernatural” episode Tombstone. Tells us all about it.

Sarah Troyer: I had the absolute BEST time on set! Every single person both behind and in front of the camera was friendly, welcoming, and a blast to work with. Rarely do you get to be on a set where there are no egos and everybody gets along. I feel very fortunate to have been given the opportunity to work with such a great group of people.

I’ve been a fan of the show since I was a kid so I was super nervous and a bit star struck to be working with Jared and Jensen. Both of them love to have fun on set and encourage others to as well. Within a few takes, I was laughing along with them and felt much more relaxed!

CB: I have a friend who is a mortician and she told me how rare females are in that industry. How did you prep for the role of Athena?

ST: I mainly analyze the script when developing a character. Determine the why behind the words and actions. From there I’m able to determine a bit of backstory. I also love to find similar characters, either in my real life or from tv and movies to help add dimension. Females are rare in the mortician industry which definitely adds to Athena’s cool, unique character!
CB: What can you share about your upcoming film “Scorched Earth” that comes up next month? It sounds intense and right up my alley.

ST: Intense, action-packed, and Gina Carano is in it – a recipe for an awesome flick! Gina Carano plays a vigilante in a post-apocalyptic world. Not only does she have to track down criminals and survive encounters with them, but she also has to survive the elements of a devastated new world.

CB: You’re a singer and music composer. What are your passions in the world of music?

ST: I have always loved to play the piano and have found comfort in it. I began composing my own songs when I was a kid but the songwriting didn’t happen until after high school, after my first heartbreak. When I’m not composing or playing my own songs, I love to play and sing movie soundtracks and Michael Buble songs on the piano.

CB: When you get some downtime in your busy schedule, what makes you smile?

ST: Friends and family are my number one. Any time I can spend with loved ones is the best! I’m happy just sit and have a cup of coffee with them, but I also love to go to the beach, kayak, go the gym, and attend comedy shows with them.

CB: You are also a voice artist. What’s it like in the booth? How do you get into character in front of that lonely microphone?

ST: I LOVE being in the booth! The VO industry is a great one, full of great people. Although often I’m alone in the booth, the director and sometimes producers are on the other side of the glass and there’s always good energy flowing back and forth which helps with getting into character. But lots of times there are multiple mics in a booth and you get to work with other artists and that is amazing! A ton of laughs and it’s easy to feed off of one another’s energy.
