After two days of total silence from The People's Choice Awards or CBS regarding the decision not to broadcast Supernatural's win in the Best Network Drama category (an award traditionally broadcast), a response has surfaced.  Granted, it's hardly a response from a high level manager from either organization, but it's an "official" line.

Ruth Moats, one of our most loyal visitors here to The Winchester Family Business, send official complaints to Proctor and Gamble, organizers of The People's Choice awards and CBS.  She received a response from a rep in the PR office for P&G.  She has graciously allowed me to share this response.

Thanks for contacting us, Ruth.

We’re sorry you’re upset the cast of Supernatural wasn’t featured on The
People’s Choice Awards.  The show is comprised of 43 categories and we made
every effort to showcase a variety of categories on the network broadcast.
Unfortunately, only 14-15 of those categories can fit into a two hour television
show.

The cast of Supernatural was not invited because their acceptance speeches were
not being aired.  The cast was aware of this and chose not to attend, but had
they expressed an interest in attending the show, we would have gladly provided
them with tickets

I've read a lot of debate in fan comments the last few days over whether or not the boys were truly invited.  So now we know, they could have gone if they wanted, but they never got an official invitation.  Ruth has allowed to let me share her response too, which has yet to be answered at this time.

I find this explanation to be totally unacceptable.
The premise of your awards is that they're voted on by the fans and represent who the fans believe as being their favorite.
Supernatural won 2 awards! One of them being BEST TV NETWORK DRAMA! Don't tell me that this isn't an award that should have been showcased on the show.
The last 4 awards proved that your statement below is totally false.
Even the Oscars showcase the technical awards during their program.....
If  your show is not going to show the awards because you (your company and producers) don't agree with the winner...then state it!
Don't hide behind false or misleading statements.
The CW is half owned by CBS and Warner Bros. and even though it isn't one of the top, that doesn't mean that you all have the right to shove it to the side.
Nor, do you have the right to dismiss the fans who also consumers from shoving them to the side.
A PUBLISHED WRITTEN APOLOGY needs to be issued and just maybe, and I mean maybe, this situation can be reversed.
Otherwise, I will help to start a campaign to get CBS (who I feel should also take responsibility) to pull this award show from the broadcast schedule.
AND as a consumer, I will stop using Proctor & Gamble products and encourage others to do the same.

Sincerely,
Ruth L. Moats

PS. Since I probably will not get a response from you in regards to this email, please take note that this situation will not just blow over. The internet and twitter are quite hot with many unhappy parties, including many fan sites who's administrators are feeling used and abused. You have a PR nightmare situation! Please take this seriously!

So there's the official line as it stands.  If there are any new developments in this fan debacle, I'll have it here!  Thanks again to Ruth for sharing this very valuable information with us.

Earlier this evening, during a broadcast of the red carpet of the 38th Annual People's Choice Awards, it was announced that "Supernatural" had won both awards it was up for!  The above picture of both awards is courtesy of Co-Executive Producer Jim Michaels via his Twitter.

The first is a second win for them, Best SciFi/Fantasy Show.  The second though is a MAJOR win, Best Broadcast Network Drama.  An acceptance speech by Jared and Jensen was taped in Vancouver.  The speech aired during the red carpet broadcast, which was shown on the little known cable network Reelz and via the People's Choice website. The win for Best Broadcast Network Drama was not mentioned during the broadcast at all, and the Best SciFi/Fantasy win only got a brief mention.

Here is that video.  The guys are certainly grateful.

Welcome to the new Winchester Family Business!  Okay, aside from some new pretty colors and a new layout, underneath it’s pretty much all the same.  We still love and obsess over Supernatural, and we still strive to be a fan site that is a welcoming place for all fans.  We will still continue to provide original content that is meant to spurn discussion and inspire the fandom, not to mention inform.  We aim to please!

It’s interesting, but in talking with fans at conventions last year and through Twitter, a lot of people aren’t aware of what we do on this site.  If they do visit this site, it’s because of an article link.  They don’t spend a lot of time exploring what else we have beyond that one article.  That’s understandable, since there are tons of other sites out there all vying for a "Supernatural" fan’s attention, so what makes us so different?  Plenty.  We are the ONLY “Supernatural” fan site out there that does original daily content about “Supernatural.”  I’m not talking about sharing news links and spreading the word about this project or that project.  Sure we do that, but mostly we want to discuss and explore here, as well as have some cheeky fun.  We are going for a full fan experience here, one where all fans are welcome and interact with respect.  Then again, if you’re a frequent visitor to this site, you know that!

That’s one of the reasons why I went for a redesign.  We do a lot here.  So much so, several of our features are getting lost in the clutter.  I’m hoping to make it easier to navigate and explore.  Below is a detailed walkthrough of this site.  Not only is one needed for the new site design, we also have many new visitors each month to this site who could benefit from this as well.  Hopefully you’ll find this little tutorial useful.

We've all bemoaned the fact that "Supernatural's" music budget has been slashed, but Santa doesn't care about budgets!! He could definitely bring the show some kickass music, don't you think?

As my kids wrote out their Christmas wish lists this year, they excitedly told me about certain items they were hoping they would see underneath our tree.  A little while later, I started thinking of what my own wish list might contain for a certain favorite show of mine.  So, I decided to make one out for Supernatural.  Now, for the most part, I have enjoyed season 7.  Beyond that, I’m grateful that the show continues, along with the fan sites and forums, alive with discussions regarding all things Supernatural.  As anyone who has read my previous essay "The Supernatural Effect"knows, the show, and everything that’s an offshoot of it, has brought so much into my life that I’ll be happy and continue to watch as long as Supernatural is on the air.

Once again it’s that time of year
With the spreading of good will and holiday cheer.
Where the fresh fallen snow blankets the ground,
And multi-coloured lights are lit up all around.

A picturesque scene of decorated homes and trees,
Gives an essence of Peace in moments like these.
And during this time there are moments of reflection
Of family and friends with fondness and affection.

The older, heavyset man is the evening janitor at Hammonton Regional Hospital. Night after night, his long white hair, and bushy beard bounce gently as he sweeps, and mops the waiting area of the Trauma/ER department.

He carefully empties the discarded coffee cups; takes the abandoned rosary beads to the chapel on the fifth floor; and lovingly collects the forgotten stuffed animals and other toys.  If they’re not claimed by the original owners, he usual offers them to the kids in the pediatric ward.

As he moves about the room, most people don’t even notice his quiet, steady presence.  But his bright eyes take in everything.  For decades, he’s watched families ride the roller coaster from shock to hope to despair.  Sometimes the ride brings them all the way back to joy.  Sadly, he’s also seen many get out at the stop labelled grief.

Tonight, his attention is drawn to two brothers in the corner.  He saw them come in, clinging to a stretcher bearing an older man with a bullet wound to the head.  Fear and sorrow are etched on their faces.  He watches the dark-haired one jamming his thumb into his left palm, over and over again.  Meanwhile, the other is pacing back and forth, as if he could step away from this pain, and into a different future.

A doctor arrives to talk to the pair. As they walk away, a piece of paper falls out of the short-haired man’s pocket.  It flutters softly to the ground.  The cleaner picks it up, intending to return it.  But the men have already left the room.

He knows he shouldn’t.  He knows it’s an intrusion of privacy.  But, he does it anyway.   He unfolds the letter, and begins to read…

There aren’t many shows out there that really, truly impact our lives. Certainly not at the individual level, anyways. Supernatural has always been a show that has enriched my life: that sounds corny, I know, but bear with me. Since Supernatural has come into my life I have met a great online community of people, been privy to some fabulous and touching entertainment and acting and had the privilege of reading incredible pieces of work on and writing for this site. These are all the reasons I love Supernatural. Recently, however, I have one more reason to be thankful to Supernatural and that is for bringing Misha Collins into my life. Maybe some of you already know where this is going, because you’ve been doing it to and loving it just as much: I have just spent the past eight days participating in GISHWHES, Misha Collins brainchild: The Greatest International Scavenger Hunt the World Has Ever Seen.

As witnessed in the most recent episode of Supernatural, episode ten traditionally leaves us feeling emotionally drained and/or shocked and/or grieving; or all of the above. So let’s take a look back at those not-so-fuzzy but pivotal moments from our beloved show.
