Home Articles The Lighter Side

So in the spirit of fun I started thinking about meta and about what types of episodes I’d really like to see the show attempt. “Changing Channels,” “The Real Ghostbusters,” “Ghostfacers,” and “The French Mistake” kind of played with form, so I thought I’d go through my list of form-meta recommendations. I invite you to add to the list!

I'm reposting this lighthearted message I wrote way back in December 2009 when a lot of fan insanity was getting me down.  Considering a lot of tempers have been flaring this week, and I just had to diffuse several nasty comments and fan complaints this morning, it's time for all of us to breathe, go to our happy places, and always look on the bright side of life.  This is especially for you Helena.

That’s it, I’m calling it.  Done.  Fini.  Over.  Summer Hellatus 2011 is one for the record books.

As I publish this, I’m sure a few of you are glaring at the countdown clock in the upper right hand corner and noticing it’s still ticking down.  You’re not at the other end of a season premiere, marveling over the possibilities of what the new season will bring.  How is it over

Season 7 is almost upon us, yay, and that means it's time to discuss the most important aspect of the premiere: what will the title card look like?  You know you're curious!  I mean, I sure am.  So this year, I decided to make a mock-up title card of what I hope to see.

I’m feeling a certain empathy with John Winchester these days.  Sadly, it’s not because I drive a gorgeous, vintage, black car.  No.  I drive a blue Honda minivan, known to my children as “Bob”.  (It’s a long story.)

The last illustrated song I offered you was Les Misérables’ "Empty Chairs at Empty Tables." I have to confess that my mind can hardly let go of the beautiful music of that marvellous stage show! So, this time it came up with a completely silly version of Les Mis’ "Master of the House." In the tradition of the spoofed Christmas songs Julie and I came up with last year, I hope you’ll enjoy this little fun ditty springing from the occasionally deranged mind of yours truly… This is dedicated to friend and editor-in-chief Alice!

I was deleting a load of files and discovered this version of "Candle in the Wind." It was one of the first songs I ever "tackled" and is obviously now out of date as it is pre-God Cas!

There is still more to Ben Edlund, ahem, the Edlund, than meets the eye. As some of you might recall, the Winchester Family Business Gazette revealed this mastermind’s secret season plans last year. In wake of Comic Con, the WFB Gazette’s unyieldingly tireless reporter Jaspala Wesson got hold of the Edlund once more and wormed the upcoming season’s episode titles and plots out of him… Obviously, Mr Edlund still is a fan of the archetypal horror genre, and his ideas salute classics of old and of today…

I have decided in this collection not to have a theme but just put together a "mish mash" of old and new clips that have captured my attention for various reasons.

As I write this, there has been so much bitterness and vitriol on the site recently, it has made me feel really down and upset so I want to start with a smile.

Like most people, I loved "The French Mistake."  I recently found this really clever video edited by becky1978. She has made a soundtrack for this episode using many different songs. I think this is hilarious and it makes me want to watch the episode again, immediately.
