Home Articles The Impala

Welcome another first time author here at The Winchester Family Business! Yvonne has chosen to share a burst of inspiration she had featuring the beloved Impala. Enjoy this most original and heartfelt homage to the most important object in the universe.
TV.com recently posted their 10 Favorite TV Cars in the history of TV.  All the greats are there, The General Lee, Kitt, The Batmobile but one car, only one, from a still running series made the list.  Yep, guess who?  The ranking was respectabilty high too.

The timing of this article couldn't have been better, for Karen sent me her latest poem about none other than our favorite classic car.  So, with pride I present Karen's "Ode To The Metallicar"

-----------------------------------------------

Ode to the Metallicar

Oh! There she is all black and sleek
The shine of her chrome, adds to her mystique.
She takes to the open road with such grace and ease.
Brining all other takers down to their knees.
Her 327 engine roars with delight.
And her beauty is mesmerizing under the moonlight.
She’s a four door hardtop that stands out in the streets.
With her tan interior and black custom seats.
She has a false bottom trunk where the weaponry is concealed.
As we can’t have the authorities having this revealed.
And although she was once douched up with an IPOD adapter.
This matter was resolved and she has put it past her.
She’s been on many adventures with the beloved Winchester brothers.
Fighting supernatural entities for the protection of others.
She has been standing guard while they slept and ate.
Has listened to their laughter, their talks and debates.
She even survived along with them, after a demons wrath.
When he sent out a semi to intercept their path.
And with Love and devotion she was fully restored.
To once again tour the streets that she always adored.
To the brothers she’s been more than just transportation.
She has been their friend, their home and their salvation.

(8-25)  Dawn sent me some great Impala photos from various car shows she and her Dad have attended around Cincinnati and Dayton.

1962 white Impala SS

1968 red Impala 327 Wagon

1963 red Custom Convertible

Interior (Sweet!)

As a bonus, Dawn also shared her Impala minature collection, including the 1967 black one that came out with the Season Three DVDs.  She also has a 1994 miniature, which looks like her Dad's car.  Hey, I have that Supernatural shot glass!

Thank you so much Dawn for sharing!

Impala moments:

Sam, Dean and the Impala are indelible images from this series. Pick any season and you will find plenty to choose from, I present four that stand out to me, either because they have heavy emotional reveals or brotherly bonding; there are dozens more to choose and by no means do I suggest these are the best, they simply are the ones that came to mind immediately for each season when I decided to ‘throw’ this together.

The idea for this little exercise came at the end of my watching Fresh Blood and boom, a simple, lite fare post came to mind. I invite you to peek at the following screen caps – added by the ever generous and always supernaturally obsessed Alice – and after you’ve gazed at them drop a comment and let me know which images came to your mind.

Cammy sent me a message that ended up being the best treat possible for an avid Impala fan such as myself.  I'll have her explain it in her own words:

We love Supernatural and modified our car to promote it. This car gets a lot of looks and makes good conversation. Some people already know it's like the one on the show and others we explain. We enter it into car shows with a poster of Supernatural by it and it gets many looks and has many fans. We recently went to the Supernatural convention in Los Angeles Mariott and almost got to show a picture of it to Jensen and Jared but just missed the opportunity by three people in front of us. We hope Supernatural runs for many more years.

She even attached pictures.  As a classic car enthusiast, I'm in awe.  What an awesome restoration job.

Thank you so much for sharing Cammy, and feel free to let us know about any future shows where this treasure can be seen.  I'm sure there are tons of fans that would love to turn out and see your "baby".

Since the next article is hitting some bumpy spots coming together I thought I’d roll this one out as it came to me this evening.

I’m taking a break from my next article in the mini series that’s delving into Sam and Dean and issues with their dad – timely I hope with the upcoming Jump the Shark. My focus on those articles is fairly narrow, although some things that Vana Naine brought up I’m trying to figure in, either in this next article or another one. I’m trying to tighten up my writing, thus the narrow focus of these articles, to help me collect my thoughts and keep the thread of continuity; I may ditch that though and just ‘let it flow’.

‘Our boys’ have been punched, shot, sliced, smashed, crushed [hee, hee, love that piano drop] electrocuted, torn apart, mauled and more thus far; I thought it worth a look at the third and next favorite cast member/part of the family’s injuries -- she’s been there longer, Bobby and Castiel, so you’ll have to accept your place.

Ten times the ‘girl’ was abused, hurt or somehow treated less than she should…and one honorable mention only because it was the first…these are in order of occurrence.

In honor of Impala die cast miniatures going out this week with the Supernatural Season Three DVD set at Best Buy, I’m devoting space this week to gush over the third main cast member, the always dependable car of Dean Winchester, aka the Metallicar.

The Impala

I’m sure there’s a few of you going, “How can you do a character breakdown of an inanimate object?” There’s no character growth or evolution, just a thing. The answer is because the creative minds of this show have given the Impala/Metallicar life. She’s (yes, Dean said her a few times) as vital to the Winchester family as Sam and Dean, and still going strong when most others from that year are scrap in junkyards.

The Impala caters to our romantic notions of cruising cross country in an awesome classic car. We love the car because it’s as pretty as the men riding in it and together, they rock.
