In honor of Jim Beaver’s birthday (yes, I know it was Thursday but better late than never), what better than to take a look at the top ten (with honorable mention) scenes that just make Bobby Singer then best damn supporting character on the planet.  Here’s my arbitrary, unscientific ranking from honorable mention to best.

Honorable Mention:   Swan Song

I still get weepy thinking about it this.

This scene is short, but it gets me right in the center every time.  The plan is in full motion, they’ve found Lucifer and it’s time for Sam to say yes.  After the flurry of doing their jobs and finding Lucifer, reality hits.  It’s time for Sam to say goodbye.  Even though they really know it's for good, Bobby won't surrender the idea this is really goodbye.  "See you around kid," Bobby says offering hope, even if it's killing him to say it.  Even Castiel feels the heartache of this situation, especially when the hug comes on.

Bobby in broken voice gives Sam his last piece fatherly advice.

"When he gets in, you fight him tooth and nail, you understand?  Keep swinging, don't give an inch."

Yep, all weepy!

10.  Two Minutes ‘Til Midnight

There are many scenes where Bobby proves why he’s so important in Sam and Dean’s lives, especially Dean.  After all, he is the father they never had.  Out of all of scenes in which Bobby gives fatherly advice, none have a greater impact than this.  It’s an impact that still affects the boys going into season seven.

Sam already won Castiel over with his plan to say yes to Lucifer, but getting Dean and Bobby to agree would be tough.  Then Bobby sees Sam calmly and heroically rescuing innocents while they thwart the circulation of the Croatoan virus.  Bobby’s now convinced that Sam can beat the devil.  Bobby’s speech to Dean, it’s absolutely uplifting, even if it means they all have to let go of Sam.  He asks Dean the hard question, one that’s needed to be asked since the series began.  “So I’ve gotta ask Dean.  What exactly are you afraid of?  Losing, or losing your brother?”

9.  Lucifer Rising

This:

“You stupid, stupid, son of a bitch! Well boo hoo, I am so sorry your feelings are hurt, PRINCESS. Are you under the impression that family’s suppose to make you feel good? Make you an apple pie maybe? They’re supposed to make you miserable! That’s why they’re family!”

Best...speech...ever.  Oh yeah, Dean had that coming.

8.  Born Under a Bad Sign

It really does pay to be a paranoid bastard.  Holy water in the beer?  I especially love the casual way Bobby continued to drink his beer as Meg!Sam was steaming in agony before knocking him/her out.  Pure bad ass.

7.  And Then There Were None

Who can forget Bobby’s heartfelt and heartbroken farewell to Rufus?  Sure Bobby was the one that killed him, but Bobby was under control of the worm at the time.  It’s interesting how his guilt doesn’t stem from the way Rufus died but how he died without them ever squaring the bitterness of Omaha.  Forgiveness for a mistake he would never get.  That was the true tragedy of that moment, and Bobby’s understated yet devastated expression along with the Johnnie Walker Blue told that entire story of regret.  It’s quite tragic really.

6. Appointment in Samarra

Bobby has clearly perfected his self protection skills and it’s so awesome to watch.  He gets all the great one liners too.  We thought the panic room was brilliance!   He keeps a weapon in the refrigerator veggie tray to protect against those sneak attacks by moose (“I may have been born at night, but it wasn’t last night”).  Oh, but such large creatures aren’t going to go down with one whack.  So it’s time to jump into the closet, give a perfect line as said moose breaks through with an axe (“Don’t say, Herrrre’s Johnnnnnyyyy”).  Time to flip the lever to the trap door!  Yeah, Bobby was still caught in the end, but that was when he was lured out of his booby trap haven.  “Ain’t nobody killin‘ me in my house but me.”  We so believe that now.

This show would not be what it is without Bobby and the talents of Jim Beaver. He's a fantastic actor and it's no wonder why he's so popular with not just his fellow cast in Jared and Jensen, but with the fans. I am so thrilled that he's still around for season 7.

Thank you for this. Bobby is actually my favorite character on the show. I just relate to his love of the boys.

Your No.1 - Yes. And then add Dean's broken plea for Bobby not to tell Sam. Gah! I'm in tears just thinking about it.

Thanks Alice
I just loved this as I so love Bobby.
Maybe because I am a little emotional at the moment, but I am with 9Tiptoes, I actually got teary reading that too.
This must have been a hard one to write as there are so many wonderful moments to chose.
I admit though I just love the `princess` rant at the beginning of `Lucifer Rising` this has always been one of my favourite `Bobby` moments.

Yes, absolutely, your #1 Bobby moment happens to be my favourite too. I watched the episode the other night (for about the hundredth time) and it had me balling...again. His character is like the mighty oak, unbending and always there when you need a limb, ahem, a shoulder to cry on.

I love Jim Beaver, he is such an asset to the show, and as much as I would love to see Loretta Divine again as Missouri Mosley, I'm glad she wasn't available at the end of season 1 and they expanded the role of Bobby Singer. Good for us I say.

One of the things I love most about Bobby is that very little seems to faze him. Even when PsychoSam was chasing him around the house he didn’t seem overly bothered, it seemed to be more of an inconvenience than anything else. The ‘Brains trumps legs, apparently’ line just epitomises Bobby. While you’re thinking one step ahead, Bobby is already ten steps ahead; something very important in the world of Supernatural.

I also love that he is the voice of reason in the midst of two fiery, passionate Winchesters. He says what we (the viewers) often want to say and he’s not afraid to tell Sam and Dean the truths that they often won’t tell each other.

Without Bobby I feel we’d be looking at a hugely different Winchester relationship, so while I don’t necessarily like that John has been replaced in the eyes of Sam and Dean (sorry!), I do feel that the boys deserve a Bobby and I'm glad they have him. (John is still hotter than Bobby though, I just have to get that in!)

I think I’m going to give myself a pedicure now in celebration of Bobby.

I think that John was so busy being their general that he may have forgotten how to be their dad. But maybe that is because of what little we have seen of him in the flashbacks of the wee-boys.

Anyway, Bobby loves them as his own, and if Bobby had just stayed as a hunter that helped Sam and Dean, we wouldn't care about him as much. But even Gramps recognized who Bobby is 'you must be the guy pretending to be their father'. Maybe, Gramps, but you are an a@@h@le that gave up your grandsons to a demon. Bobby stabbed himself to save Dean.

Alice, what about 'Let it Bleed':'Hi, glad to meet you. Bobby Singer. Paranoid bastard' LMAO.

Great list Alice. And your #1 Bobby moment is mine too. I liked him before it, but I loved him after. I too got a little teary reading this, especially once I got there.

I would love to add another of Bobby's lectures from "Point of No Return", when he told Dean off for wanting to give-in, or his confrontations with Crowley in "Weekend at Bobby's", or even his speaking Japanese, but I wouldn't know which of the great moments above to leave out. That's the thing about Bobby, he's too good for one list.

Sniff... why the heck is Bobby a fictional character?! I would love to have such a fatherly friend in real life...

I love this list, Alice! It's a beautiful little tribute to this man. Without him, the Winchesters would have been dead already...

Three Cheers to Bobby!
Love, Jas

Wow! It's hard to pick just one favorite; I can't do it! Whether it is a comedic scene or deadly serious or one that breaks my heart, Jim is just amazing in the reality he brings to the character of Bobby. I too want an Uncle Bobby in my life!

I love Bobby Singer, played so artfully by Jim Beaver and written so well by the writers. He has introduced new words into my vocabulary, such as "idget." and hallmark phrases like "ditcheable prom date". :P
I love his funny scenes and his sad ones. When he told Dean he wasn't worth anything in the "Curious Case..."Wow. I loved his "Boo hoo princess" speech, too.
You picked some really awesome Bobby moments.
Thanks.

There is no other way to describe it, Bobby is the calm spot in the storm, when all hell breaks loose, it's Bobby who's gonna be the rock and glue that holds everyone together.

Between two human idjit and one angel idjit, Bobby sure has his hands full, but he's there, he's the steady constant that keeps all three guys sane and on track.

And let's hope in Season 7, he will continue to keep them all on track and help the boys to get that other angel idjit back!

Bobby was the one who said family was meant to make you miserable and that it doesn't end in blood, and those words now with Cas's situation in Season 7 are even more poignant and meaningful, and I sure hope Bobby and the boys remember that!
